10/9 is the day that Hangeul was created. Hangeul is the letters of korea which is made by 세종대왕 The great king Sejong who was the fourth king of 조선 Joseon. His family name is 이 lee and his name is 도 do. Originally king Sejong was not the crown prince for king because he was not the first of his brothers. However because his older brothers were disposed from crown prince because of their behavior 이도 (lee do) got an chance to become crown prince. King Sejong’s hobby was learning, reading, and writing. Because of this hobby king Sejong was very intelligent even more than the most brilliant officials in the palace.
A fun fact about Sejong, Sejong loved meat so much that meat was almost part of all of his meals!
Going back to the subject the reason why Sejong created Hangeul is that before he created Hangeul there was no original Korean alphabet for our language so they could talk but couldn’t write the words down. We had to borrow Chinese letters, and not only were they too hard for commoners to learn (it was very complicated, and you needed time and money to learn how to write and read in 한문) . So only the wealthy people could read and write. The most serious problem of the absence of the ability to read and write was that commoners couldn’t read the official announcements made by the government written in Chinese. This caused lots of problems. Some corrupt government officials took advantage of this fact and caused commoners lots of grief.
King Sejong felt sympathy for them and he made up his mind to create unique alphabet of Joseon. However a lot of people disagreed on making an alphabet system that was different from the Chinese. Though he faced harsh opposition king Sejong created 훈민정음(=Hangeul) which means “the right sound to teach the people’. There were three main reason for disagreeing on making 훈민정음. The first reason was because Joseon was toadying Ming dynasty and making a letter other from Ming dynasty’s letters (Hanja, Chinese script) is a barbaric act. To that reason king Sejong refuted that he was not denying the Ming dynasty, he was following the Ming dynasty but also preserving our own. The second reason was creating the new easier Alphabet would disturb devoting on academic success and is nothing but a loss. To this reason king Sejong answered the focus of creating 훈민정음 is not only to devoted to academic success in fact the real focus is making the letter more easy so the people can use it.
King Sejong is featured in Korea’s 10000 won bill, and he’s easily the most famous and loved King in our entire history. You can find last year’s hangeul day post by Admin sun here, if you’re curious about the specifics of the early hangeul King Sejong made, and more stuff about the philosophies behind our amazina alphabet, 훈민정음. Thank you for reading!!
I’m going to introduce you guy’s various tales of korea.
The first tale I’m going to introduce is River Snail Wife. This tale is about a invisible women who cleans the room or cooks when the man is outside. At first the man picks up a sea snail and brings it home and puts it in water. One day the man murmurs what use is there to farm when there’s no one to eat with. Then he hears a voice saying eat with me. The farmer looked back but no one was there. From that day strange Things happened like foods were cooked when he was outside. So he pretended going outside and looked inside the house. There was a woman in his house cooking. He proposed to her and they got married and lived happily ever after.
The second tale I’m going to introduce is the story of kongjwi and patjwi. This tale is very similar to the Cinderella. There was a girl named kongjwi who lived with her father, stepmother, stepsister(patjwi). One day there was a big party in the castle inviting everyone. But kongjwi’s sister patjwi and her stepmother didn’t allow kongjwi going to the party until she fills water in a pot with holes weave carpets and so on. When Kongjwi almost gave up on going to the party a frog came and blocked the holes in the pot and a fairy came and weaved the carpet for her. The rest of the story is similar to Cinderella.
The third tale is the tale of a rabbit and a turtle. This time the tale is completely different from the tale you will know. This story starts with the god of the sea(dragon king) sick. The dragon king hears that the liver of a rabbit can cure his illness. So he orders a turtle to go to the land and kidnap a rabbit and bring it to the palace. The turtle convince the rabbit to come to the palace. When the rabbit realize that the king wants his liver the rabbit says he hid his liver in a secret place on land. So the rabbit gets back to land and runs away.
There are more tales like Heungbu Bolbu, the boy and sister who became the sun and moon, the frog that does the opposite, the fairy and the wood cutter, goblin’s clock, golden axe and silver axe, the Dried persimmon and a tiger, a rat that ate a finger nail, 3year hill, the magic millstone, and much more. I recommend reading them.

There wasn’t a day that seemed to go by where you weren’t worried, thinking about when you would debut.
BigHit publically stated they wouldn’t be releasing any girl groups, yet here you were. A trainee. Eighteen years old and wondering why they hadn’t fired you yet. It was over a month ago that they made this statement, and tomorrow you had finally scheduled a meeting with the staff to clarify what your purpose was at BigHit.
You stood in the middle of the practice room. The digital clock on your watch read 1:05 AM. Your meeting was in about twelve hours then, so if you practiced for four you could sleep for eight.
Dancing wasn’t your gift. You’d been practicing for the last five years and struggling. By this point, you were sure people thought you were good, but the skill didn’t come easily.
Maybe if you were a better dancer, BigHit would let you put together a group to debut with. They’d fired all their other female trainees at some point over the year, leaving just you. Its like they’d forgotten you were a woman.
Leaning down, you pressed the button on the radio, and pulled out your phone, scrolling to find a song. Monsta X’s ‘Hero’ began playing, and you found yourself doing a mix between your own routine and their stage performance. You weren’t sure how many times you’d done the song when a knock sounded on the wall.
You were unsure as to how you didn’t notice him enter, but there stood a male with a snapback. The lights in the room were dimmed, so you could really only see your reflection in the mirror. You pivoted to face him. Dark ripped jeans, a white hoodie, and an amused expression marked his features. You swallowed, taking in a moment as you recognized him. “Park Jimin,” You mutter, grabbing a towel off the ground and dabbing your forehead.
“You work hard,Y/N.” He commented, striding forward with a smile. You were wary of speaking to any of the Bangtan members because you didn’t want to make a bad impression. “I have to.” You huff, stopping the music and looking up to face him properly. You glance down at your outfit, realizing how bad you looked at two in the morning. “Why are you here so..” You trailed off. Early? Late?
“Wanted to get some practice in on my song. Heard music playing from one of the rooms.” Jimin explained, gazing up and down your body quickly. “Why are you here?” He almost laughed. “You have time to practice in the day.”
As much as I tried to avoid them, the boys knew who I was. I was the only female trainee currently at BigHit, so it was hard to go unnoticed. “I need extra training.” You grit your teeth. You didn’t want to admit you were a trash dancer.
“Need help?” He offered. You paused. Did you want Jimin to help? “I guess.” You mumble. Jimin plugged his phone into the outlet and scrolled for a minute. “Do you know our I Need U routine?” He queried, and you shoot him a nod. “You know whats funny?” The male chuckled. You began doing the footwork to the song in an attempt to remember. “We’ve never danced this song with a girl before.”
You knew that, and it wasn’t that funny. Maybe a bit ironic, but not funny. “Follow my lead, will you?” He calls. You frown, wondering what he was going to try on you. You watch Jimin dance the first verse and join in on the chorus, pushing your arms out and watching in the mirror as you perform almost as well as Jimin. You’d done this routine a thousand times when the song came out last year, but hadn’t really done it since. I Need U was one of your favorites.
You hummed along as the vocals built up and there was a pause, leading to the chorus. “Wait, wait. Y/N.”Jimin calls, catching your arm. You blink at him, narrowing your eyes. “That is my favorite part.” You snap. He grins. “I want to make this into a duet. Hosoek is too busy, and none of the other members would do it.”
You bite your lip. “It’s two in the morning.” You exhale deeply, and the twenty two year old laughs. “Fine.” You say after a moment. You couldn’t deny the excitement building in your chest at the chance to work with Park Jimin. You’d always admired his dancing from a far. “What did you have in mind?”
~
You spent three hours dancing with Jimin and being coached by him. The chorus to the routine was almost the same, except on multiple occasions you would link hands and push each other, pressing outwards and sending you spinning. You’d immediately return to the planned routine only to stand back to back with Jimin, sliding down against each other and then turning around, face to face.
You were breathless as you finished the chorus, facing the boy. His eyes smiled when the corners of his mouth were tugged up. He tilted his head a bit as he chuckled. More like a little Jimin giggle, it was cute. You stepped back, exhausted and covered in sweat.
“Wow,” You murmured. He grinned at you in response, but he looked so happy it was almost scary. “You learn quickly.” He compliments, but you stiffen. “I’m naturally trash, though.” You reply, thinking of how mechanical you used to be when dancing. “But thanks.”
“I heard rumors you’ll debut as a solo artist.” Jimin commented as he grabbed a water bottle, chugging for a moment. “There’s lots of rumors about me around here.” You snorted.
You’re silent for a moment as you sit down, leaning your back against the wall and closing your eyes. “Let’s do this again, yeah?” Jimin sat down beside you, still breathing heavily. You scoffed. “I don’t know how many more all nighters I can pull, Park.”
“Call me Jiminie-oppa, like my fans.” He says swiftly. “No.” You snap in response and he laughs. “I was kidding, and you’re half American, so you have an excuse.”
“So, will we do this again?” You mutter, tilting your head to look at the black-haired male. “We’ll see.” He grins.
“We’ll see.” You whisper.
~Eight Months Later~
The crowd roared as you stood center stage, as sweat dripped down the side of your forehead. You held up the microphone, listening to the voices singing your song.
“Thank you, thank you.” You laughed, stepping forward and getting closer to everyone as you bowed slightly. “I’m so thankful to be here with all of you. Five months ago when I released my first mini album, I never thought I’d have gotten this far.” You smile.
“I’d like to thank my family, BigHit for choosing me, and most importantly all of you for appreciating and loving me and my music.” You bowed once again, hearing screams in the crowd.
You were no where near as big as BTS, but the stadium sold out with a thousand tickets in center city Seoul. You’re eyes shifted offstage to see a familiar boy and his brothers, waving at you. Your first concert was a success, but there was one act left.
“Some of you may have heard rumors about me and one of the boys from BTS. I can guarantee that some people here were the ones who started them.” You smiled. “But it’s true, Park Jimin and me have been dating for five months now.”
Suddenly you felt arms wrap around you from behind, and a chorus of screams echoed throughout the stadium. A good majority of your fans were originally ARMY, who’d heard you debuted under BigHit and wanted to see what this new solo girl was all about.
You giggled, as Jimin twirled you around and set you down. He spoke into his own microphone. “I don’t mean to take over Y/N’s concert, but all of you should be just as proud of me to see how far she’s come so quickly.” He began, as music began to play faintly in the background. A familiar melody.
“Eight months ago, I think. Y/N and I started to rework the choreography to the song I Need U.” Jimin began telling the audience as you chugged from a water bottle. “Today, we’re going to perform the couple dance for the first time.”
You grinned at him as he took your hand as the intro grew louder. “Thank you, and enjoy.”
“We’ll see how this goes..” You whisper to him, and he smiles at you reassuringly, tugging you back to center stage.
