📚 #AFlickerInTheDark 👀 This was the first @stacyvwillingham novel and it was also the first she wrote. It was quite enjoyable and I can't wait until the wait-list for @libby.app is over for her second book so I can start consuming it! I thought I was getting good at predicting thrillers and then I read this book. Way to keep me humble... I wanted to live tweet all my reactions so I could go back and see how close (how far off) my guesses were as I read the book. I thought I knew from page one "who dun it" but boy was I wrong. Sin embargo, hace veinte años su vida cambió por completo cuando acusaron a su padre de una serie de asesinatos, y terminó en la cárcel, y ella señalada simplemente por ser su hija, la hija de un monstruo. Y ahora que todo parece irle bien, las desapariciones vuelven a empezar y ella cree que todo se repite de nuevo. Es un libro que, pese a sospechar de varias personas, y temer que sea previsible, consigue sorprenderte al final, y engancharte por la forma de estar escrito, por esos viajes de presente a pasado para saber, tanto lo que está ocurriendo, como lo que pasó. Muy reflexivo, y lleno de sentimientos, es muy fácil entender y empatizar con Chloe, y sufrir y dudar como ella sufre y duda. Y os lo recomiendo si os gustan los thrillers, las historias de asesinatos, la estructura de presente y pasado, y los libros en los que, pese a sospechar y hacerte tus propias teorias, al final consigue sorprenderte gratamente. 🔪 Tenéis la reseña completa en el blog. ¿Os pasáis a verla? I received an advanced reader copy of A Flicker in the Dark from St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley, in return for my honest opinion. A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham is a story about childhood tragedies shaping who we become. The summer that Chloe Davis was twelve years old, six local teenage girls were killed. Chloe’s world came down that summer when her dad was arrested for the murders and her mom became a shell of her former self. Twenty years later, Chloe is still dealing with the traumas of that summer, planning her wedding and growing her private psychology practice. When a couple of local teenage girls go missing, Chloe thinks there must be a copycat criminal on the loose. As Chloe becomes obsessed with finding this criminal, everyone she knows will become a suspect and soon she’ll find herself with no bridges left to burn. This book moved too slow for my liking and I found most of the character to be unlikable. A Flicker in the Dark is available now.
