Giovanni has a strange tendency to attract small angry knife dottirs to his general vicinity– no, I won’t write a whole headcanon based on that. Well, kinda. It’s this: Leaf and Domino fill very similar, close-in-proximity niches in Team Rocket.
Leaf shows-up on the scene as a random kid Giovanni picked-up and decided to train after seeing her potential. She’s a smart, tough kid, unpolished, and just getting her teeth into pokemon training. Leaf is an effective but rough fighter, at the very least she won’t give-up. In the course of two years she’s groomed into an effective and deadly agent, one of the best trainers in the organization, and a shrewd information dealer. She gets her own partner in M but remains closely attached to and working for Giovanni doing important, sensitive, and personal work at varying interval. From what I understand, Domino is in a similar position, working for, and around Giovanni, and having a close relationship to him.
It wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume they’d encounter each other quite a bit, or even be assigned to the same missions. Leaf at her full height stands is no slouch at 5′6″ and is big-boned, she’s a rough hand-to-hand fighter, using knives or just her fists this plus her ability as a trainer would naturally compliment Domino’s style. It would be to Domino’s and Leaf’s benefit, as well as Giovanni’s specific interest, that the two get along and can work together effectively. I can see Domino and Leaf having an unpersonal, but close, working relationship, discussing logistics and missions over a cigarette in a quiet moment or making fun of whatever poor smuck they’re going to con. They’re not intimate friends but they get along and are a good team in a fight.
Particular thoughts in no order:
Leaf and Domino hanging around the office while Giovanni entertains a potential rival. Rival trys to pull some shit and turns out the two semi-distracted teenage looking girls were paying attention, and now you have a knife in your hand. Whoops.
Leaf is straight-forward and honest for a pick-pocket and criminal, she hates playing games. Domino’s going to have to pick up a lot of slack in the ‘tricking people and gaining their trust’ department.
In a disbandment verse, and a reunion, Leaf keeps tabs on Domino and still regards the other girl fondly.
