So here’s a little The Old Guard inspired ficlet for Kingsman. I might write more at some point who knows, but this particular scene wouldn’t leave me alone, so might as well share it :D

Ginger lets herself fall face first onto the couch, groaning partly from exhaustion, partly in delayed exasperation.

"That bad, huh?" Whiskey asks from the other side of the room as he works quickly on his computer to make sure there is no trace of her and the others' last self-appointed mission.

She groans again before answering with actual words. "I love them, but Christ. We all need therapy. So much therapy."

"Hmhm. It would probably be a good idea to find someone for you lot," Whiskey hums in in agreement.

She doesn't bother raising her head to glare at him. He's a smart man, he'll hear it in her tone.

"Jack, you need therapy just as much as we do. I'm sorry for your wife, I really am, but all that you did since you lost her?" She waves at the walls of ever-expanding research before continuing, "that's not grieving."

"Hey! Look here, I-" She hears the obvious anger in his voice before he cuts himself off, taking a few deep breaths. "You know what? That's actually more than fair."

"I'm not trying to be mean, you know?" She rolls over so she can actually look at him, hoping he'll see she's being honest. "I really just want us all to be happier than we are now."

"Don't think Harry and Merlin really need to be..." She throws a pillow at him, not that he's wrong, not exactly. But even if they live in relative romantic bliss, the two man both have other issues that would benefits from some professional help. "But thank you, Ginger, for caring. I- I appreciate that."

She smiles back at the man as he throws the pillow back at her, before he turns back to his computer, the moment of vulnerability clearly over.

And the thing is, she does care.

Sure, Whiskey got her new family in loads of trouble before, but he's going above and beyond to help them with whatever they need now. Maybe it's easier for her to forgive him because everything started before Roxy found her and brought her into the fold, but it's only part of the reason why.

She doesn't think Whiskey will betray them again after the whole mess with Poppy, but trusting the man as well as treating him with decency and respect can only endear them to him, thus making it harder for him to sell them out in the future.

Though she knows neither friendship nor even love can insure loyalty.

Eggsy proved that even if he readily admitted it was one of the worse mistake of his very long life.

"You know," Whiskey's voice distracts her from the gloomy turn of her thoughts, "I think there might actually be someone who would work for us."

"Really?"

She has to sit up for that, finding that very hard to believe.

But Whiskey isn't paying her attention anymore, staring at the newest wall of his research. It's still mostly bare and Ginger hasn't been able to see the connection with any of the immortals yet, but she knows better than to dismiss Whiskey's work.

Clearly lost in his thoughts, he doesn't answer her and she doesn't bother asking him to explain himself as she lies back down.

Whatever it is, she'll find out soon enough.

Anyway, it's not like she doesn't have all the time in the world. And for now that time would be better spent in a nap.
