Ragatha's model is a ragdoll, a poor imitation of a human thats ultimately made with love.
Her mouth and eyes movement is inspired by stop motion (a 3d art form where you painstakingly move real life (but ultimately lifeless) models frame by frame to imitate life), but her pupils and mouth expressions are 2d. She treats everyone within the circus with the love and humanity that they deserve as 3 dimensional people, but doesn't allow herself that same courtesy, seeing herself as a 2D person.
Her clothes are a fancy, frilly dress thats barely held together, a brand new bow, and nice little black shoes. This shows how her mental health isn't the best (everyone can see that), but she has a better lid on it than many realize.
She also has one blue button eye (which emphasizes what a "poor imitation of a human" her avatar is) and one normal eye with pink eyeshadow, which makes sense given her cheerful personality, and black pupils. In the anime adventure however, she gets irises that are a gradient of pink and purple, which reflects her cheerful nature.
Also her dress is made of a light blue fabric, thats held together by dark blue patches (which appears purple under yellow lighting).
Light blue is associated with calmness, youth, and tranquility, and dark blue is associated with mystery, authority, and maturity. Ragatha, inherently a child's toy, had to mature quickly due to her home life, but as a result doesn't really know how to function as a full adult.
In other words, she has all the maturity of an adult, but doesn't know how to handle the authority that comes with it. Ragatha was so used to being tossed around that when it finally stopped, she couldn't figure out how to move on her own.
Unfortunately, a ragdoll doesn't usually get the time to figure out how before someone else picks her up. Sometimes its a nice person who just wants to take care of her. But other times it's a person who decides to tear her up for the fun of it. Guess which one Jax is.
Jax's design is meant to emulate cartoons, what with his exaggerated expressions and overall demeanor. But, as we see with all those "What Jax Looks Like Outside of Camera View" images (if you haven't they're very funny go check them out), every cartoony expression he pulls is made by mutilating his 3D model. In an effort to remain 2D, he warps himself until he's almost unrecognizable. I'm sure that has no story implications whatsoever.
And it doesn't stop at over the top expressions. One thing I noticed about the peeled Jax head images that have circulated is that his eyes and teeth are 2D/drawn on and stationary, and his eyelids and mouth are 3D. Where Ragatha's features stick out, his are covered, only showing what he wants.
Of course, parts of Ragatha's face (including the upper part of her eyes) is covered with her red (power, love, anger) yarn hair, which just goes to show that while she seems like an open book, she has plenty of secrets too.
I said earlier that Ragatha's dress appears purple under yellow light. Jax is also purple, with yellow eyes. Some people think that because they have similar coping mechanisms, they are the same. That they both are manipulative, bad people. And are they right? Lets hear what they have to say.
"Oh Ragatha. I love her, but, after a while it gets kinda hard to tell how genuine she's actually being."
Hold on thats a Gangle quote how did that get here? Never mind this one should be it.
"Doesn't she get on your nerves sometimes? I dunno I just- I think she tries way too hard. Like, we're stuck and... Why are you always pretending like everything's fine? Like if you tell someone they're loved and appreciated everyday it just, kinda loses all meaning. It just feels like she's taking advantage of you, y'know? I dunno..."
WAITAMINIT THATS A JAX QUOTE?! Never mind lemme just-
"I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of you explaining what you did wrong!"
WHY ARE THERE SO MANY TADC QUOTES BACK HERE THAT PERFECTLY FIT WITH THE SITUATION ARRGGGGHHHHH
Forget it I think you get my point.
Ragatha can't control the light. She can't change how people see her. No matter how wrong they are. All she can do is her very best to prove them wrong.
Anyways, Jax's outfit is a pair of pink overalls with yellow gloves. He has no shoes, no hair, no accessories (unless you count bunny ears and a detachable tail). It's very simplistic, which is everything Jax wants to be.
Pink symbolizes innocence, playfulness, and love. Light Purple is also associated with innocence and love. Jax is the youngest member of the circus, and craves validation, but while him wearing colors makes sense from that perspective, you know thats not what he was thinking when he spawned into the circus.
All he was thinking is that he turned from a man into a purple bunny with pink overalls. Possibly the most "girly" avatar in the circus next to Ragatha's.
Jaxs eyes are yellow, which is associated with many good things like optimism and warmth, but is more known for caution, jealousy, and betrayal.
Him controlling an avatar with such innocent colors but having his eyes, the window to the soul, be yellow is very telling. He also has black pupils but so does practically everyone on planet earth so he gets a pass.
Now, yall have probably been thinking, "Why analyse their avatars specifically in the same post?", and don't worry I'll tell you.
Where Ragatha has all the maturity but doesn't know how to handle the power that comes with it, Jax has no maturity but can handle the power thats supposed to come with it easily.
You see, Jax is 22, and has been in the circus for years. Ragatha is 30, and got trapped before Jax did.
If you've only watched the show, you wouldn't guess that based off their respective behaviors.
Sure you'd be able to gather that Jax is a tryhard and that Ragatha is somewhat older than everyone but Kinger, but 22 and 30 wouldn't be your first guesses.
Why?
Because of the power Jax has over the cast.
The way Gangle is terrified of a guy 4 years younger than her.
How he always ends up the leader on adventures.
How Ragatha, despite being obviously more mature, is unable to do the same.
How she stays silent while Gangle was berated, flinching every time Jax's voice got too loud.
The fact she gets torn up every other adventure.
But Jax gets scared the moment she gets the upper hand, and immediately shoots her before she realized the power thats in her hands.
How just a small hint to their shared past manages to shut him up. That just a few drunk words can break him. How just a drop of the medicine he's administered to everyone else makes him throw a tantrum.
We all joke about how Jax is pathetic, but he really is. Whats more pathetic than a little boy who acts like he's the king of the world?
Obviously he's not THAT little, he's 22, but he sure doesn't act like it. We could argue that he entered the circus as a teen and that contributed to his childishness, that he had a bad home life, all the things. It doesn't erase the fact that he so easily uses power thats not meant for him. That he uses it to hurt people.
He wears these childish colors because thats what he acts like. A child that expects to be treated like an adult.
Ragatha however is an adult who has grown used to being treated like a child. Shes so used to not having power that she's unable to see how powerful she really is.
I hope she does, and that she's able to wield it for the betterment of everyone around her.
