The Fire Within
GOT7 Jinyoung x Reader Genre: ‘Soulmate AU’ / Smut / A little angst/ A little fluff Warning: Explicit sexual content, swear words, and a whole load of sexual tension. Word Count: 15k+
Summary: His dark hair and rosy lips, a face you had only seen once yet you were so familiar with. How could you move from the arms of someone you were comfortable with to the arms of someone where you didn’t even know his name? You tried to ignore the feelings but you couldn’t. You cursed your genetic makeup. As much as your mind told you no, every other part of you, including your heart, wanted to be with that stranger.
Everyone's experience is different. He had heard so many stories before of what the feeling could feel like. Some said it felt like an electrical current running through their body. Others have said they felt an overwhelming amount of calmness take over. A floating feeling. What he was experiencing wasn't anything like the legends have prepared him for or what they taught him in classes when he was younger. He wasn't expecting for his literal breath to be taken away, he was doing the mechanism of breathing but yet he felt like he was getting no air. On top of that he wasn’t prepared for the heat that surged through his veins. It wasn't excruciating pain, just a slow burn that radiated throughout his whole body. Maybe he thought that the moment he met his soulmate would be dramatic, romantic even. All it took was one accidental bump. The coffee shop was more crowded than usual, and in an attempt to move out of the way for a woman with a stroller he had accidentally backed into you.
The sensations he felt were instant as he looked at you wide eyed. He couldn't speak, couldn't say anything and time seemed to standstill.
“Sorry,” you said blushing as you held onto a coffee mug, disrupting the slow movement of time. Before Jinyoung could say anything you turned and walked away.
“W-wait,” Jinyoung finally called out but you had already left. His gaze followed you as you went to a table, sitting across from another man with dark brown hair. “What the hell?”
Did you not feel it too? Wasn't “the moment” that everyone had talked about suppose to occur. If it wasn't for the lingering burning feeling that he felt in his body he would have thought it was just heightened sensitivity. But it wasn't. He didn't have to question the feelings he felt. You were it. You were his soulmate.
You were his epitome of love and partnership. The one that was supposed to fill the empty void that dwelled within him. The void that dug into everyone who hadn’t found their soulmate yet. He stared at you, he was supposed to be that for you too. So why was it that you just kept on walking, why was it that you were sitting there smiling and laughing at the man across from you while he was struggling to breathe. He was supposed to leave and meet with his friend but how could he. Just across from him, his soulmate sat there. You and the man stood up preparing to leave. You walked over towards the counter, and he could hear you ask the barista for a to go cup. Maybe the contact you two made wasn't enough for you to feel it. He walked over to where you stood at the counter pouring the remaining contents of your drink into the cup. Casually he walked over with his own drink in hand and placed it down beside you. Even just standing beside you seemed to have his system boil. His body recognizing the missing part of him. The heat radiated throughout his body and he had to resist the urge to pull you against him to soothe the burn. Through his peripheral he watched as you remained calm beside him. Barely acknowledging his presence and yet here he was suffering. He couldn’t take it anymore, when he saw you reach for a napkin he acted on the moment and reached out too. His hand brushed against yours and once again fire surged through his veins. You didn't retract your hand from his. He glanced up at you, hopeful that you final felt it too. When you pulled your hand away, he waited for your reaction. Measuring your facial expression, but nothing changed.
Once again you smiled, “Sorry,” then you grabbed your coffee off the counter and left Jinyoung standing there at the counter. He watched as you smiled up at the guy waiting by the door, but what caught him by surprise was when you linked your hands with his and walked out, not even giving a second glance to Jinyoung.
Was this even possible? How could you walk away so easily from him? The absence of your presence turned the heat that flowed through his body into a low simmer. Jinyoung replayed the whole scenario in his head as he sat on the couch in the living room of his friend’s apartment. Mark came from the kitchen, handing Jinyoung a beer before he took to the couch across from him, his focus on the sports game that played on the tv.
“Mark?”
“Hmm?” Mark took a long pull from his beer.
Jinyoung felt a little awkward to ask this but he didn’t know what else to do, “How did it feel when you met Hana?”
Mark had already met his soulmate so maybe he could share some incite.
Mark cocked his eyebrow at Jinyoung, “When I saw her something felt different in the atmosphere but not in a bad way. I guess I just kind of knew. The best way to describe it physically for me is that my body grew cold and tingly.” A smile tugged at the corner of Mark’s lips as he reminisced about the first time he met her.
“What about Hana?” Jinyoung asked.
“She went through the exact same physical symptoms I had. The ice cold rush moving through our bodies. The instant pull we had towards each other. Kind of like a switch turned on,”
“Is…” Jinyoung hesitated, almost embarrassed at the fact that he wasn’t so sure about his situation, “Is it possible for the feelings to be one sided?”
That caught Mark’s attention as he sat up, turning the volume down on the tv as he faced Jinyoung.
“Don’t you remember our classes about this?”
“Barely, I didn’t pay too much attention to the details and I thought everything was straight-forward.” He was wrong, everything was more complicated than he imagined.
“Soulmates are never one sided. Usually once you feel it, it's mutual for both partners. You’ll both experience the same physical symptoms.”
A feeling of anxiousness started to form in the bottom of Jinyoung’s stomach. If a soulmate is never one sided then how come you left? You had walked away so easily from him and with another man. Who was that man? Jinyoung fell silent as more and more questions came to mind.
“Is everything alright? Why the sudden talk about soulmates.” Mark noticed a change in the atmosphere.
“I- I think I met mine,” Jinyoung admitted.
“What? No way, congratulations. Welcome to the club,” he grinned, “Who is she?”
Jinyoung sighed, “I don’t know. I never got her name. I never even spoke to her,” he then explained the whole situation to Mark.
“And you’re sure you feel it?”
Jinyoung looked down and ran a hand over his forearm as heat still travelled through his body. “I’m sure.” he answered.
Mark leaned back against the sofa, “Maybe she’s latent or understimulated,” he suggested.
“What does that mean?”
“Come on, did you really not pay attention in classes when we were younger?” Jinyoung continue to stare at him and Mark sighed, “She could be having a delayed response or maybe bumping into her and brushing against her hand wasn't enough. Maybe she needs more contact.”
Jinyoung raised his eyebrow, “Like what?”
Mark shrugged, “I don't know. You should do it before the other physical symptoms kicks in though. And don't tell me you don't know what those are too.” Once again Jinyoung remained silent and Mark cursed under his breath. For someone whose nose was in a book all the time you’d think he’d have a little more knowledge about their condition. He cleared his throat, feeling awkward to bring up the discussion about their physical needs. “You know… when you two souls meet they have their initial physical symptoms where they’re able to recognize each other. Then after that there’s the …” Mark tried to find the right word that didn’t sound too strange, “The you know... the desire,”
Jinyoung stared at him, what did he mean the desire? Then it clicked and he suddenly felt very awkward. After the initial physical symptoms he was experiencing it’d soon progress into the need for your partner, intimately. It was a part of uniting the two souls. “Oh…”
Mark nodded, “Yeah… Hana and I tried to wait a little before it happened. It was slow torture for both of us. But when it happened.. oh man.” Mark cleared his throat.
There was silence between both of them. Neither of them wanting to explore the topic of intimacy further. Some things were just too weird to even discuss with your closest friend.
Mark changed the topic, “So… what does she look like?”
Jinyoung thought back to the coffee shop and the moment you smiled at him. “She’s beautiful.” He said without even registering what he was saying. The more he thought about you the more the heat travelled throughout his body.
Days had passed since he last saw you. A slight panic had started to build up within him. What if he never saw you again? His symptoms still remained, a dull burning sensation running through his veins. The only other difference was that the second set of symptoms started appearing. He found himself dreaming about you at night. His encounter with you had been brief yet in his dream he could see your face so clearly. When he closed his eyes or let his thoughts wander you were the only thing that appeared. By now he knew the angles of your face, the way your hair fell and your smile, your smile affected him the most. In his dreams you were there. Sometimes it’d be at the cafe where he met you, reliving the same moment when your bodies collided. The outcome would be different, you’d recognize him right away. A shocked expression on your face then the realization that you two were meant to be and you’d move into his arms. Happy to have found him and he’d hold you against him. Other nights he’d wake up breathing heavily, sweat dripping from his temples. It’d feel so real, the way your bodies had moved together. The way your skin tasted and the sounds you made, your skin against his palm soft and delicate and just when he was about to reach his peak he’d wake up. In the middle of the night he’d finish himself off, closing his eyes and thinking about you and his dream. Then guilt would sweep over him. He didn’t even know your name.
You jolted out of your sleep struggling to catch your breath. You dreamt of him again, this time more vivid than the last. The man in the coffee shop. Your soulmate. You cringed at the word. You tried to take deep breaths to settle yourself as your heart beat rapidly against your chest and the overwhelming amount of heat moved throughout your body.
“You okay?” Your boyfriend sat up beside you and started rubbing your shoulders. “Nightmare?”
You nodded, feigning a smile. He kissed your shoulder then pulled you back to lie down with him, wrapping his arms around you. In a few moments, you could hear the steady sound of his breathing knowing that he had fallen back to sleep. However, you couldn’t sleep. Every time you closed your eyes you saw the man in the coffee shop. The first time your bodies collided you felt it instantly, and a sense of panic loomed over you. You had tried to avoid this moment for so long hoping that the day you meet your soulmate would never come. You saw his shocked expression on his face and you fought every cell in your system that gravitated towards him. Then once again he brushed your hand and you knew it had been on purpose. He was testing it out again. You were thankful that he didn’t chase after you and you forced yourself to leave despite the pull and surging heat that moved through your body because of his presence. Growing up you longed for the moment you would meet your other half but that hope faded away when you met JB. You both knew it was wrong, that you shouldn’t get involved with each other. The fates had already decided that you two weren’t meant to be. Yet you found yourself caring about him. You kept the fact that you had met your soulmate from him even though you knew he’d be understanding. Both of you had prepared and talked about when it happens, but you weren’t ready to let him go just yet. You closed your eyes and immediately your soulmate’s face appeared. His dark hair and rosy lips, a face you had only seen once yet you were so familiar with. That’s what scared you. How could you move from the arms of someone you were comfortable with to the arms of someone where you didn’t even know his name? You tried to ignore the feelings but you couldn’t. You cursed your genetic makeup. As much as your mind told you no, every other part of you, including your heart, wanted to be with that stranger.
By the second week Jinyoung felt drained, both mentally and physically. His mind still wandered to thoughts of you. Who were you? What were you interested in? And the question that lingered in his mind the most, who was that guy? Jinyoung knew that in the society that they lived in, it didn’t make sense to be with anyone else aside from your soulmate. It gets too complicated when another person is involved. He walked down the street and once again he did a double take, he did that often whenever someone looked remotely like you. Although he never had to question himself if it was you or not. Your face was engraved into his heart.
The next time he looked up he stopped in his tracts. There you were, walking into the coffee shop where you two first met. Every day he had come in hopes that he’d see you again. He blinked, making sure it wasn’t his imagination playing tricks on him again, but sure enough it was real. He tried his best not to run into the coffee shop after you, instead quickened his pace. When he entered he immediately searched for you, then he spotted you, standing in line. As casual as he could he stood behind you in line, burying his hands deep into his pockets to restrain himself from reaching out to you. Now that he was this close to you his body started to heat up again. Mark’s words came to his mind, “maybe she needs more contact” How? He couldn’t necessarily just grab you out of the blue, could he? He pushed that thought away from his mind knowing that even though you were his soulmate it probably wouldn’t make a good first impression. You approached the counter and Jinyoung started to panic, he had to think of something quick before you left again.
You didn’t have to turn around to know. Your body felt his presence. You tried your best to remain calm, acting nonchalant and unaffected by him being so close even though everything in your system begged you to be with him. You dug through your purse, anxious to pay and get out as soon as you could.
“Sorry, I swear my wallet is in here.” You murmured to the barista as you continued to dig through your purse. The color started rising to your cheeks as you could hear the mumbles from the people in line behind you and as the barista continued to stare at you while you dug through your purse.
“I’ll pay for her order as well as an iced coffee please,” you felt your body react to the sound of his voice.
He stood beside you now as he pulled out his wallet and handed the barista some cash. You looked up at him. He was taller than you, your eyes fell to his sharp and defined jawline. He smiled at the barista, then turned to look at you. As soon as you made eye contact you looked away.
“Thank you,” you said as you walked towards the counter to wait for your order.
He followed you and you felt your heart pound against your chest as if it wanted to jump out and land right into his hands. You hated it. How your mind and your body wanted two separate things.
“I’m Jinyoung,” He introduced.
Jinyoung you repeated silently in your head. Now you were able to put a name to a face. The name of your soulmate. “Hi,” you smiled politely at him but desperately wanted your coffee to come so you could get out as fast as you could.
He needed a new way to approach this, he was going to treat you as if you weren’t his soulmate. “Come here often?” Inside he shuddered at the typical cheesy pickup line.
You nodded, “Occasionally.” Before you could even think about what came out of your mouth next it was already too late, “I’m Y/N.” You cursed internally, it’s like with him standing there you had no control over your actions. You didn’t want to reveal more of yourself than need be.
He smiled, “Nice to meet you Y/N.” Finally.
Just in time your coffee was ready and you picked it up from the counter, “Thanks again.”
Just as you were about to turn and leave Jinyoung grabbed your wrist. The contact once again sending a flame throughout your body. Hot to the touch but not enough to have you pulling away. You tried your best to control your breathing, to keep your response under control. You stared down at his hand that encircled your wrist as if waiting for something else to happen, then you glanced up at him. His soft brown eyes searching your expression. You tried to make your voice sound as steady as possible, “Is something wrong?” You asked.
Did you really not feel it? He let go of your wrist, an easy smile appearing on his face that masked his frustration. “If we run into each other again the next coffee is on you.”
You smiled turning to leave. Relief washed over you, you had managed to maintain your composure even though everything inside you screamed at you to stay with him.
What more did you need to realize? Maybe she needs more contact. That sentence once again loud in his head. He wanted to blame the feeling that was moving through his veins but he knew that without him knowing for sure he’d go crazy and he found himself running after you.
“Y/N!” He called when he spotted you already halfway down the block. He was relieved when you had stopped and turned around.
“Everything alright?”
“Yeah it’s just…” he trailed off “Please don’t hate me for this,”
Before you could even question him Jinyoung placed his hands on your shoulders. In the blink of an eye his lips were on yours. If you thought the heat from him just brushing against you or holding your wrist was a lot. That was nothing compared to his lips that burned hot against yours. Every cell in your body igniting into flames. Jinyoung was just going to let it be a quick and innocent peck, but soon he found his hands moving from your shoulders to grasp the small of your back pulling you closer into him as his lips started to move against yours. You should have pushed away from him and his sudden boldness, but the heat possessed you. The control you worked so hard to build up had vanished. You were giving into the tantalizing taste of his lips. Your hands reached up and fisted into his hair, dragging him against you full of need and desperation. You parted your lips, granting him more access and with that he took the opportunity to graze his tongue against yours. Both of your bodies well aware of how much you needed each other. How right it felt to have your lips move against one another. When you felt him start to pull away it embarrassed you that you gripped his shoulders leaning into him and kissing him a few more times before pulling away. Even when you two had parted, your bodies longed for more. The heat gravitating to your centre in a way that hadn't before.
Jinyoung still held onto you, as if supporting you but truth was he didn't want to let you go.
“Do you feel it now?” Jinyoung murmured.
Your head spun, “Feel what?”
“That we’re… you know… each other's soulmates.” He was disappointed that he had state it so obviously.
You remained in his arms, your hands resting against his shoulders and you looked up at him. After that kiss you couldn't hide from him anymore.
“I felt it since the beginning. Ever since you accidentally bumped into me and when your hand brushed against mine and when you grabbed my wrist earlier.” You admitted.
Jinyoung looked at you, so you weren't latent or under-stimulated but how could you go on ignoring him as if you weren't affected. “Then why-”
“Because I don't want this.” You cut him off moving out of his arms, creating distance. You crossed your arms in hopes that it’d settle your body from wanting to be touched by him again. “I don't understand why our genetic makeup or fate, whatever it is, has to decide who I’m supposed to be with. I was perfectly happy where I was in my life. Now I’m basically bound to a stranger, I don't even know your last name.”
“It's Park.”
“That's besides the point.” You sighed, taking a breath from your sudden rant, “My body and my mind want two separate things,”
“Let me guess. Your body wants me and your mind wants that guy from the other day?” Jinyoung’s voice had a slight build up of irritation behind it.
“JB is my boyfriend,” you explained.
“And I'm your soulmate.” Jinyoung countered. “I don't understand. Why would you even bother getting involved with someone when it’s inevitable it’ll end?”
“We both knew what we were getting into. Look, things will be over once JB finds his soulmate.”
“So what about me? Am I supposed to wait around for you until that happens?” Jinyoung’s voice taut.
“No I don't expect you to wait around. Just keep living your life the way it was before all of this happened.” You urged.
“Y/N, I’m not sure if you’re feeling the same physical symptoms that I am but I'll share it with you. My mind can't stop thinking about you. Even when I sleep you haunt my dreams and as if that’s not enough there’s a constant heat that lingers in my body because of you. So even if I wanted to carry on my everyday life as if you didn't exist. I can't.”
It didn't catch you off guard. It was the same for you, you just tried your best to ignore it all. “You don't want me as your soulmate.”
“Well by now I'm sure you know just as well as I do that I don't have a choice,” he scoffed. He had pictured this moment more differently, nothing like this. What was he supposed to do when you actively tried to stay away from him. He inhaled a deep breath, held it in then let it out along with all of his annoyance. “Look, I get it. It must be a lot to take in and I'm someone you don't know,”
“Exactly,”
“It may only be your body at this moment, but I'll make sure every part of you will want me.” You stared at him wide eyed, taken back by his words. “You don’t know me yet y/n, but you will.”
Before you could say anything back you heard your name being called. You turned to see JB walking towards you. You glanced at Jinyoung, he smirked shoving his hands into his pockets. You panicked, what if Jinyoung told JB that he was your soulmate? It was too late, you couldn’t even ask Jinyoung to keep it a secret before JB showed up.
“Did you wait long?” His arm wrapped around your waist and he kissed your cheek. “Who’s this?” JB asked, his attention turned to Jinyoung.
Jinyoung bit down on his tongue. A bitter taste in his mouth when he saw JB’s arm wrapped around you and his lips press against your cheek and he clenched his fists inside his pocket.
“Oh.. this is Jinyoung. He’s um..” You stuttered.
“I’m Y/N’s…” you held your breath when Jinyoung started to speak, “new close friend.” Jinyoung flashed a smile at you.
You let out a breath of relief, “Jinyoung paid for my coffee cause I forgot my wallet,” explaining further to JB.
“Thanks that was nice of you.” JB laughed, ruffling your hair. “Anyways, let’s go?” He asked you.
You nodded, turning to walk away with JB.
“Y/N,” Jinyoung called after you. You paused and glanced over your shoulder to look at him, “I’ll see you around.”
Something about the way he said it sent a frenzy throughout your body. You could only nod as you walked off with JB. Damn him you cursed, his words leaving you shook.
Jinyoung watched as you walked away once again. You had felt it all along since the beginning but you had deliberately hid it from him. All for your boyfriend. He wasn’t going to wait patiently on the sidelines while you played pretend with someone else. You were meant to be his.
To say that you had your physical symptoms under control was the biggest lie you could tell yourself. The fervent feeling still moving throughout your body. On top of that there was the impatient longing that lingered in the centre of it all. Your lips tingled at that thought of the kiss shared between you and Jinyoung. His soft lips and the way they moved against yours. The way his hands felt at the small of your back pulling you against him. Imagine how his hands would feel gripping at your waist and his lips trailing along your neck and-
“Y/N, you’re staring off into space again.” JB’s voice interrupted your wandering thoughts. You snapped back into reality, realizing you were staring down at your coffee mug. You hated the way your thoughts always went to Jinyoung.
JB walked over to you, cupping your face in his hands as he looked at you. “Your face is flushed and you feel warm,”
A fever was on it’s way as you could feel the heat move from inside your body to out. Fighting against your body had left you feeling weak but you continued to use whatever energy you had to keep resisting. You had wished JB was the one who found his soulmate first because you didn’t want to leave him behind. You two had known each for so long, first as friends then as boyfriend and girlfriend, he was your comfort.
JB kissed your forehead and smiled at you, brushing your hair away from your face. “Even if you’re sick I still find you cute.”
You pouted, “I’m not sick yet. Just under the weather,”
JB let out a little chuckle, “That’s the same thing. Come on, come rest for a bit.” taking your hand he led you into the living room. He sat down, pulling you onto his lap and you wrapped your arms around his neck. “You know, I could get used to this. I don’t mind this at all.” He said as he held you.
You raised your eyebrow at him, “What do you mean?”
“I mean, I’m okay if we never find our soulmates. I like staying here with you like this.” JB tightened his hold around you. The guilt sunk like a rock in the bottom of your stomach. “You know it’s strange,” JB continued, “If I’m feeling this sort of pull towards you, I can’t imagine it being a hundred times stronger than this if or when I meet my other half. Do you think that pull would really be that strong?” He asked you. Yes. You thought as Jinyoung flashed in your head. “Let’s just stay hidden from the world. We’ll hole up together in this apartment together. I like you y/n, I care about you a lot.”
You smiled, “You know I care about you too JB.” You repositioned yourself in his arms as you snuggled against his chest, “I wish it could stay like this as well.” But as you said that the more you felt unwell.
“Mmm Jinyoung, more please.” You writhed underneath his body.
He continued to pump into you, deep and hard thrusts as he felt you clench around him. He was bringing you two close to the edge. You fisted your hands in his hair dragging him down to have his lips crash against yours. You moaned into his mouth, arching to meet his every thrust.
“I’m so close,” you whimpered.
“Me too,” he breathed, his pace quickening. He was almost there, his abdomen tightening and the buildup to release was so close.
“I’m coming Jinyoung,” you mewled.
Jinyoung shot up, breath heavy. Another dream. Jinyoung ran his hands over his face then glanced at the clock, it was four in the morning. The sun wasn’t even close to rising and yet here he was again. He could feel the throbbing ache that begged for release pushing against his boxers and the damp spot it was creating because of his dream with you. He groaned, laying back down in bed. Thinking of every possible curse word to say to you for driving him this mad. He palmed over the material, hoping that the pulsating feeling would ease. When that did little to suffice he squeezed through the material, letting out a heavy breath as he did so. He tried to use a different means of releasing the tensions that constantly built up because of you. Some nights he'd take a cold shower, other times he’d go for a run or do numerous amounts of pushups in his room. It was only when all else failed would he relieve himself the way he needed but it still did little to suppress what he really desired.
There was no point in going back to sleep, he was wide awake. He tossed the blankets off him, and sat up at the edge of the bed. What should he do today? Cold shower? Run? He needed to do something to distract his mind from you.
You stood in the aisle of the store, looking at all the options of medications to take. The grocery store had barely opened but you had been awake most of the night, haunted by your dreams of Jinyoung once again as well as the impending feeling of a cold coming. It took so much energy to get to the store and walk through the aisles. A pounding headache, fever, generalized weakness and fatigue, if you didn’t know any better you’d say it was just a flu or cold but you knew that this was a result of your symptoms of avoiding Jinyoung. You looked at the options for medicine. Would it still have the same effect of relieving the symptoms when this was all soulmate based?
“Y/N?”
You froze, your body reacting to the sound of your name being called by his voice.
“Jinyoung,” you turned to see him walking down the aisle, a basket in his hands. “What are you doing here?”
Jinyoung held up his basket, “Same thing you are. Grocery shopping. Except I guess we’re shopping for different things?” He said glancing around the aisle you two were standing in. “Are you sick?”
“No. It's for someone else,” you lied. He looked completely fine, in fact, you noted his light denim jeans and the black crew neck sweater he wore, he looked good. His sleeves were rolled up and the muscles on his forearm flexed as he carried the basket. You swallowed dryly, your hands becoming clammy as the heat gravitated to your lower abdomen. Why did your body have to react to him this way?
“Are you sure? You don't look so well,” he said noting how flushed and pale you looked.
“I’m fine,” you glanced away, avoiding making eye contact. You started shaking, why were you shivering so much when your body felt hot. All you wanted to do was get home and get some rest. His presence wasn't helping at all. Jinyoung continued to stand there, eyeing you. “What?”
Jinyoung shrugged, “Nothing.” Seeing you put his mind and body at ease but he still felt resentment towards you as you were the primary reason for his restless nights and pent up sexual frustrations. “Are you sure you’re okay?” He asked.
Why did his voice sound so faint and why did he look blurry? You squinted your eyes trying to focus your vision. It felt like you were detached from your body, “I need to go,” you couldn't tell if you had said it out loud or not but you turned to leave, barely feeling the ground beneath you. Suddenly there was a ringing in yours ears and the last thing you heard was Jinyoung’s muffled voice calling your name before things went black.
Your eyelids felt heavy as you opened your eyes, adjusting to the light that flickered against your face. Your head was cloudy as you tried to remember what happened before everything went black. The first thing you noticed was the high ceiling, accentuated with ceiling lights that emanated a warm glow throughout the room. You turned your head to the side, a large window letting in natural light with curtains, was that the skyline? You wondered as you saw peaks of tall buildings that reminded you of downtown. Where were you? There was a quilt spread across your body and you were on a sofa. You sat up, your body feeling heavy and stiff.
“You should rest some more,” Jinyoung came from another room a glass in his hand, he immediately walked over to you. Setting the glass down on the coffee table in front of him he sat down beside you. He cupped your face in his hands as he looked at you, scanning your face. “You’re not as pale as before,”
“What happened? Where am I?”
“You fainted and you’re at my place.” Earlier when you had fainted in the store gave him the biggest scare of his life. He had caught you before you hit the ground. Immediately he swept you into his arms, carrying you out of the grocery store in a hurry. His first reaction was to take you to the hospital but that had changed when you had mumbled his name in your half unconsciousness state. Realizing it was a result of your resistance towards him he had brought you back to his place. “How are you feeling?”
“I’m fine. I should get going,” you tried to stand but your legs wobbled beneath you as you collapsed back down onto the sofa. Dizziness rushing through you.
“Just rest,” Jinyoung handed you a glass of water and grateful you took it. Letting the coolness wet your mouth but yet it did little to soothe the heat you felt in your throat.
You were still shivering yet you felt hot as Jinyoung sat beside you. Jinyoung touched the back of your hand and you flinched at the sudden rush that moved through your body as if it was awakening.
“Jesus Y/N, you’re ice cold.” He lifted up the quilt that covered you, tucking himself under it too.
“What are you doing?” Your sentence frail as your teeth chattered.
“Come here,” Jinyoung pulled you into his arms, positioning himself as he wrapped his arms around you, your face buried in his chest.
You tried to push against him but he tightened his hold.
“J-Jinyoung,”
“You’ll fall off the couch if you keep pushing away from me like that.”
“Then let me go. What do you think you’re doing?” You squirmed.
“I'm holding you. You’re body is reacting because you’re not with me.” Jinyoung explained.
You pushed one more time but failed to break his hold around you. The energy in your body completely depleted. It was quiet for a few moments as you laid on the couch with Jinyoung. Already you felt your body start to settle, your shivering ceasing and a comfortable warmth spread through your body. You found yourself snuggling closer to him, your breathing even and your eyes starting to droop once again.
“How come you’re not sick?” You murmured into his chest.
Jinyoung rested his cheek against the top of your head. “Probably cause I'm not resisting the way you are,”
You sighed, enjoying the way your body had finally relaxed. Since you met Jinyoung you felt like you were always tense and for once you didn't resist but let your body meld into him. A part of you knew it was wrong to be here with him like this, guilt reminding you about JB, but just for a few minutes, you told yourself as you closed your eyes.
The sound of shuffling papers stirred you from your sleep. Your feet came into contact with another. Your eyes shot open once you remembered where you were and whose arms you were in.
You stared up at him, one hand held a book while his other rested against your waist. Jinyoung hadn’t noticed you had woken up and you took the time to once again study his face. From the angle you laid in you could appreciate his sharp jawline and the way his brows furrowed in concentration while he read. He was handsome. Jinyoung’s attention turned from his book to you and you felt something shift within you.
“How are you feeling?” he asked.
You tested things out by sitting up, Jinyoung releasing his hold around you. You could already feel where his hands had left but you felt good. Your body felt rested and re-energized.
“I feel good. I guess I really needed that quick nap,” and you. But you didn't dare admit it to him.
A grin crossed Jinyoung’s face, “I wouldn’t really call that a nap,” he sat up as he started rotating his shoulder and stretching the arm that held you.
What did he mean? You looked out the large open window, “The sun’s setting!” Shocked and surprised at the orange and pink sky that highlighted the city view. You reached to where your cell phone was on the coffee table. Twelve missed calls from JB.
“He’s been calling non-stop.”
You looked at Jinyoung then back at your phone. “Why didn't you wake me?” you started writing a text message to JB, apologizing and letting him know that you’d be home soon. Asking him if he ate or if you should bring something home. You had your energy back and finally felt back to normal.
He felt annoyance start to build up as he watched you focus your attention towards your boyfriend. “You needed to rest,” his voice tight.
You smiled down at your phone, reading JB’s reply. Just you, he answered. You laughed when you received another text message right after that, And noodles. “I should go now,” you stood up already thinking about where you should stop by and get food.
Jinyoung grabbed onto your wrist, “Listen Y/N… if you start feeling that way again. Just come back to me,” he couldn’t believe what he was saying. Was he letting you go again? But he figured, if this was the only way to have you a part of his life then so be it. This was better than nothing at all.
You considered his offer, “If my body starts feeling that way again. I’ll come back to you. Thanks again.”
Jinyoung sat down on the couch. The warmth of where your body lied still lingering, how many more times was he going to continue to let you go?
“Jinyoung,” you quivered.
He sat up clutching his sheets. His sleep once again disrupted because of you and the trying feeling of wanting you in a way he couldn’t have. At least this time he had managed to sleep until the sun rose, he didn’t even attempt to go back to sleep as he kicked off the sheets. He pulled his t-shirt over his body tossing it to the side as he walked towards the bathroom. He turned the faucet on his shower to run cold. His body was hot, his lower half throbbing, aching and waiting to be released. He didn’t know what was worse. Getting sick like you did from being apart from him or the vivid dreams he was experiencing that had him yearning for you.
The cold water ran over his body but did little to relieve any of his tensions. Maybe because last night’s dream took place in the shower. Your body wet against his but you had felt so warm wrapped around him. He was taking you from behind but when he looked up he could see your breasts pressing against the glass through the mirror that was just starting to fog from the steam.
He couldn’t get that image out of his head. He couldn’t get the fervent sounds that escaped your lips as he drove himself into you off his mind. “Fuck it,” he muttered as he reached down to grip himself. He hated you for making him need like this. For making him succumb to this as his hand stroked up and down his length. The cold water still running over his body, his other hand closed into a fist against the wall. His eyes closed as he pictured the way your back arched. The way his hands gripped along the curves of your body and the ardent way you said his name while he was deep inside you. Images of your breasts and your taut nipples as they pressed against the cold glass flashed across his mind, fueling the need for him to quicken his pace, gripping himself tighter while stroking. He was lost in his thoughts now, his hand continuing to run along his member. He could feel it start to build up. “Y/N” he murmured, his other hand tried to reach for something to grasp but only met the slick walls of the shower. He thought back to his dream and how you stood on your tiptoes, the only support was from him as he gripped at your hips, holding you up as he thrusted into you. The smacking sound of his body against your ass mixing with the sound of the shower filling the room. “Fuck Y/N,” he let out as the tension finally released. His strokes slowing as his own warmth coated his hand. He let out a heavy breath as he tried to regain the feeling in his legs. It wasn't enough, nothing was soothing the heat that radiated in his body and the need for you. He turned to face the shower, changing the water temperature to run warm as he rinsed off and proceeded with his regular shower routine, frustrated and annoyed as he once again felt the heat circulate within his body.
He barely had time to wrap the towel around his waist when the persistent sound of his doorbell went off. When he opened the door he wasn’t expecting to see you standing there.
He was only in a towel. His hair still damp and water droplets trickled down his broad chest. You fought the urge to let your eyes wander down his narrow torso to where his towel wrapped around. Your body reacting to the sight of him in a way you couldn’t control as everything heated up within you. It reminded you of why you came in the first place.
“I brought you coffee,” You held it out to him. He only continued to stare at you. Maybe he wasn’t a morning person. You cut to the chase, “I need you to hold me again.”
It had been a week since you had last seen him and within that week you felt your body gradually lose its energy. You needed to see him before things worsened. He noticed that way your hand trembled as you held out the coffee cup to him. He sighed, opening the door wider and moving aside so you could come in. You smiled as you brushed past him and into his apartment. This time you were able to take in his apartment. You felt like the mix of beige and creams fit his personality well, chic but yet warm and inviting.
“Alright, let’s do this.” You said collapsing onto his couch, trying to be as casual about this as you could when in reality your heart pounded against your chest.
“Not there,” Jinyoung said, as he walked into his bedroom.
You panicked, “Why not?”
“You may have been comfortable but I wasn’t. My arm felt stiff for days. If we’re going to do this then let’s at least do it where there’s space.”
You hesitantly followed him into the bedroom. It was going to be quick, just a little recharge then you’d be on your way. “You’re going to put on clothes right?” You said, noticing he was still in his towel.
“Maybe things would go quicker if we were both naked,” Jinyoung proposed. Your mouth dropped open and finally a smile crossed Jinyoung’s face, “I’m kidding. Give me a sec,” he said grabbing the t-shirt he had tossed onto the floor earlier then walked into the bathroom.
You let out the breath that you held. “I know this is going to be weird,” You spoke a little louder while Jinyoung was in the bathroom, “But can I borrow some clothes? I don’t like getting into bed wearing my outdoor clothes,”
“In the drawer,” he yelled from the bathroom.
You walked over to his dresser and opened it. Everything was folded so nicely and you carefully sifted through until you found just a plain tee. “Don't come out yet. I’m changing.” You warned.
“You shouldn't have told me that. Now I'm tempted,” Jinyoung’s voice echoed from the bathroom.
You rolled your eyes, quickly taking off your clothes and slipping on his t-shirt. Jinyoung came out of the bathroom. The sight of you standing there in his bedroom in his shirt sent his body into a frenzy. He wanted you. It took him every single bit of willpower not to cross over to you and take you into his arms and in the way that he had dreamt of for the past nights. You stood there awkward, watching as Jinyoung walked over to his bed and climbed in. He looked at you, waiting for you to climb in and when you didn't he patted the empty spot beside him. Your heart pounded against your chest. This was just so you could get on with your week without your body collapsing. Almost as if you were charging yourself. You climbed into bed with him and moved into his arms, wrapping your arm around his waist. Just as it had before your body relaxed. The warmth spreading throughout from being so close to Jinyoung. It was silent as you two laid there wrapped into each other's arms. You wondered how it felt for Jinyoung. Was he feeling the same relief you were?
“Does he know where you are?” Jinyoung interrupted the silence.
“He thinks I'm at yoga,” feeling the heaviness in your chest for lying to JB and keeping it a secret, not to mention that you were currently lying in bed with another man. Not just any other man though, your soulmate. It was a silent again and you wondered if Jinyoung had fallen asleep. You glanced up at him, his eyes were still open as he stared off into another part of his room. This time as you looked at his face you noticed the dark shadows that had started to form under his eyes.
“Tired?” You asked him.
“A little. I haven't been sleeping much lately.” He answered, you were to blame.
“Do you get them too?” You asked, “the dreams…” you continued.
“Yeah,” Jinyoung replied.
It was silent for a moment. You laid in the crook of his arm, hearing the steady sound of his breathing.
“They’re so vivid,” you felt the heat rush to your face wondering if Jinyoung’s dreams were just like yours.
“I know,” Jinyoung thought about his shower.
Curiosity started to get the best of you. “What are yours like? I mean… how far does it go?”
“Let’s change the topic Y/N,” Jinyoung said. If he thought about it with you laying in his arms, in his bed he didn't know where it might lead or what it might tempt him to do.
You failed to listen to him, continuing on as your curiosity grew even more. “Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, breath heavy and sweaty. I’d be so close to-”
“Y/N,” he cut you off.
“I’m just curious to know what yours are like. Just tell me,” you pushed.
Jinyoung sighed, and in a quick motion he rolled himself on top of you. Pinning you in between the mattress and himself, his body pressing against yours.
“Would you rather I show you what they’re like?” Your heart thudded rapidly against your chest as you stared up at him, shock and arousal pulsating through your body. “Sometimes they start off like this, slow as I explore every inch of your body,” his hands trailed down to your thigh and you felt the burn of his touch against your skin. “Other times it's hurried as the need for you is too much,” his hand trailed up your thigh, stopping at your hip as he gripped it. “Every night I dream of you like this. Touching you,” he leaned in, his lips barely brushing against yours, “Kissing you,” You could feel your body react to him, wanting him to close the remaining gap between your lips.
His eyes trailed down to your lips and he could feel the warmth radiating off your body. He smiled rolling off of you and onto his back. You laid there dumbfounded taking deep breaths and trying to calm the rapid beating of your heart. The heat burned hot in the center of your body. Jinyoung laid beside you, trying to calm his own body but the ardor and pull that lingered between the both of you still remained.
“Wow, those are just like my dreams,” you turned your head to look at him.
Jinyoung looked back at you, then he saw the smile tug at your lips and he laughed. “Come here,” he said opening his arms again. You grinned moving back to snuggle against him, his body warm against yours and soothing the burning heat that lingered in your body. It wasn't as awkward as you thought it would be. You didn't feel tired at all, in fact you felt the opposite, full energy. He was your soulmate. He was going to be the one who you'd eventually spend the remainder of your life with, except you knew absolutely nothing about him.
“Tell me about yourself,” you asked suddenly.
“What?”
“I might as well get to know you while I lie here with you,” You justified.
Jinyoung smiled, tucking his free arm behind his head as he got more comfortable in bed. “Where should I start?”
At first your visits had been once a week but as time passed it wasn’t enough. The time you spent with Jinyoung became more frequent, soon it became daily. Despite your best efforts to resist you couldn’t escape the urge to be with him. It wasn’t even the need to be held by him that gave your body energy, but simply just being in his presence. The more time you spent with Jinyoung, the lies between you and JB built up. As well the closer you got to Jinyoung, you could feel the distance start to build between you and your boyfriend. It was entirely your fault. When you weren’t physically with Jinyoung then your thoughts were. You’d find yourself smiling thinking back on something he said. You wondered what he was up to during the times you weren’t there and of course, the dreams continued. However, you always questioned yourself and the emotions you were experiencing with him. Was any of this real or was it all part of your genetic makeup that made you feel this way?
Today was one of those days where you needed him to hold you. You had fallen into a routine, when you arrived there was already a set of clothes laid out on his bed for you. Some days you two would fall asleep together, other times you’d lie in bed talking. Today felt different though, he was more quiet than usual.
“I should get going. JB will be home from work soon,” You started to get out of bed but Jinyoung tightened his hold around you. You looked up at him, “Jinyoung…”
“How much longer is it going to be like this?” his voice was quiet as he retracted his arm from you.
You sat up, “I told you. Once JB finds his soulmate-”
He interrupted. “Y/N, do you know how hard it is for me?”
You stared at him in surprise, “It’s hard for me too.”
Jinyoung got out of bed, letting out a cold chuckle. “Yeah I’m sure it’s so hard to go back into your boyfriend’s arms after leaving mine.”
You frowned, “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Do you know how much it pains me every time you leave knowing that you’re going back to him?” He raked his hands through his thick hair.
“He’s my boyfriend.”
“And I’m your soulmate, but I guess that means nothing to you.”
“Of course it means something to me!” You defended.
“But not like it does to me!” Jinyoung raised his voice, “Damn it, Y/N. This is more than just fate and my soul being bound to you. I’ve fallen for you, I’m in love with you. Every time you leave you take a piece of me with you and I’m left with nothing. You’re supposed to be mine and I want all of you.” He crossed over to you placing his hands on your shoulders.
“I’m already yours. Fate has already decided that,” His words echoed in your mind. He was in love with you? Love?
“You aren’t mine,” He sighed heavily. “Y/N I want you to be with me not because the celestial powers had made it that way but because you want to.”
You looked away from Jinyoung, still sitting on his bed. “Everything in my body gravitates towards you. When I’m with you I can’t think clearly, when I’m not with you I can’t think clearly.” Your fingers scraped against the denim material of your jeans, anxious and unsure of what to say next “I don’t know what I want or where my feelings lie.” Jinyoung sat beside you, taking your hand in his and feeling the warmth diffuse through your bodies.
“Y/N I-,” the sound of your phone buzzing cut him off.
You hesitated, both knowing who was calling. The moment you pulled your hand away and got up to answer your phone Jinyoung felt the heaviness on his chest.
“Hello?” You murmured into the phone, glancing over your shoulder back to Jinyoung. “You’re home already? Okay, I'll be home soon. I’m just at the mall.” You listened to your boyfriend at the other end of the line pacing back and forth then you paused, “I can't wait to see you later too.” You hung up the phone, staring down at it before turning to face Jinyoung consumed by lies and guilt.
“I guess we both know where your feelings lie,” he stood up from the bed, walking past you and into the kitchen.
“Jinyoung,” You followed after him. “I’m sorry. I just need time,” you apologized.
“Right,” he scoffed, “Time to curl up and snuggle with your boyfriend, sleep with him, then when he’s found his mate then you’ll come to me to take his place.”
“It’s not like that!” Feeling mildly insulted.
Jinyoung placed his hands down on the counter, trying his best to get his emotions under control but the torrid heat ran through his body, consuming him and reminding him of the unabating feelings he had for you. “Then what is it like Y/N? Tell me why I’m still waiting for you. Why you choose to go home to him every day and refuse to tell him that you met me?” his tone cold.
“I-” you didn't know what to say because in truth you were unsure of what held you back.
You stood there and he could see you struggle to explain your feelings. A part of him wanted to walk back to you and hold you, apologize for his sudden outburst and tell you that he’ll wait as long as it takes for you to be ready. It was the larger part of him that had him remaining where he stood. The greedier side that wanted you to be his now. The part of him that pained every time he thought about you smiling at someone who you truly wanted to be with and not who you were compelled to be with.
He let out a heavy sigh, “Just forget about it. He's waiting for you,”
A new feeling rushed through your body, one that was different than any other symptom that you felt with him. It was a dull ache. A suffocating heavy feeling in your chest. What was this feeling? You knew JB was waiting for you and that you should leave but your feet remained planted in place.
“Jinyoung we should talk more about this,” you went to take a step towards him.
He smiled but it didn’t light up his face the way it normally did. “I’d rather not. I don’t know what I might say next and I’m too afraid you’ll say something I don’t want to hear.” He walked towards his bedroom, resisting to the urge to send you off with a hug the way he normally did. “Get home safely,” and with that he went to his room and shut the door. You now recognized what you were feeling, this was the first time you were experiencing heartache.
It felt like the longest week of your life going so long without seeing Jinyoung. The absence of him could be easily felt. You tried to use this time away from him to figure out your feelings. Trying your best to sort out if the way you felt for him was based purely because you two were soulmates or if the time you had spent with him had led to a deeper rooted feeling. There was one thing that you were sure of, you missed him. Although it was nighttime and JB laid peacefully beside you, you couldn’t sleep. Your dreams of him weren't the typical ones you had. They weren't the intimate and passionate ones you were used to. These ones had you waking up at night, eyes damp and the aching feeling in your chest.
More days had passed and you were surprised that you hadn't fallen ill or that your body hadn't grown weak from not being with him for this long. You’ve come to the realization that it was because you were no longer fighting against it. You accepted the fact that he was your soulmate. You sat by the window in the cafe, watching people pass by and wondering if anyone else had experienced the same predicament you were in. You watched as a couple walked by, arms linked and laughing with each other. Were they soulmates? Or were they how you and JB were? The sudden jolt of heat that rushed through your body steered your attention away as you looked towards the entrance. There he was, you felt your heart leap forward instantly drawn to him. Jinyoung didn’t look your way and you watched as he went to the counter and ordered. Did he feel your presence too? When he received his order he turned around and there was a light within you that brightened the minute he made eye contact with you. You saw his smile but then noticed how quickly it faded.
“Sorry it took so long,” JB came placing the drinks on the table and taking a seat in front of you.
You glanced over at Jinyoung. He stared at you, his gaze piercing you and creating a heavy weight on your chest. You looked down at your coffee, breathing through the pains that spread through your body as you felt the fire dwindle back to a simmer as Jinyoung left.
“What’s wrong?” JB asked.
“JB, I need to tell you something,”
He reached for your hand, stroking it and encouraging you. “What is it Y/N?”
“I met my soulmate,” You avoided looking at him, you didn’t know how he would react and you couldn’t bare seeing his face if he was hurt.
JB sat there silent and seconds felt like hours as you waited for his reaction. He squeezed your hand and you looked up at him, trying to interpret his facial expression. You watched as his face relaxed into a smile.
“Y/N I’m so happy for you. Congratulations!” Immediately JB stood up pulling you from your seat and embracing you into a hug.
You felt your chest lighten but you couldn't stop the tear that rolled down your cheek. JB pulled away, immediately concerned he cupped your face. Stroking the tear away with his thumb. “What's wrong? Is he not nice? Do I have to kick his ass and beat some sense into him?”
You shook your head, “No, he’s perfect,” admitting it out loud had made it even more real. It was beyond the natural ties of fate. Park Jinyoung, your soulmate, was perfect to you and you were in love with him. “I’m sorry JB,” you apologized to him as more tears started to stream down your face.
JB hugged you, stroking the back of your head to comfort you. “There’s no need to apologize Y/N. I'm truly happy for you. We both knew this was bound to happen.” He had you look at him. After knowing JB for so long you could easily read his face. He meant it. He wasn't upset but understanding. “I’ll always care about you.”
You smiled, hugging him and resting your head against his chest. “Me too,”
The tender moment quickly ended when you felt someone grabbing your arm and forcefully pulling you away from JB.
Jinyoung was just going to let it be. The minute he walked into the coffee shop he knew you were there. He tried his best to avoid you, it had been days since he had seen you and he missed you. He regretted lashing out on you and he worried that it only drove you further away from him. He was willing to put aside his pride and apologize to you. When he turned and saw you sitting there, already staring at him he felt his heart cave in. He smiled back at you but the brightness quickly diminished when he saw JB.
He was almost a block away when he decided to turn around. Enough was enough, you were his soulmate and you were going to be his now. No longer was he going to let you go and be with anyone else but him. When he walked back into the coffee shop he saw you there, in the midst of what appeared to be an intimate embrace and he immediately felt the rage take over. In a few strides he reached you, immediately grabbing onto your forearm and pulling you away from your boyfriend.
“What the hell, Jinyoung?” You stared at him, seeing the cold look across his face.
JB looked between the two of you, recognizing Jinyoung from before. It clicked for him instantly, seeing the way Jinyoung possessively held onto your wrist. JB tried to hide his grin as he noticed the look of annoyance on your face. Your poor soul mate had no idea what was coming for him.
“You were the one who bought Y/N’s coffee last time,” JB said testing the atmosphere and sizing up the one you were going to spend the rest of your life with. He was truly happy for you and his words were true, he’d always care about you.
“I’m Y/N’s soulmate,” Jinyoung declared, taking a step and positioning himself in between you and JB.
JB smiled, “Ah, yes. She was just telling me about you,” he tried not laugh when he saw the surprised look on Jinyoung’s face.
“She was?” Jinyoung immediately looked at you then back at JB.
“And I was just congratulating her and wishing her the best with you,” JB added.
“You were?”
“Yes he was, before you so rudely interrupted.” You scoffed, crossing your arms. How dare he abruptly interrupt you and JB like that.“And I would have preferred to be the one to introduce you as my soulmate,” You were planning to introduce the two of them eventually but you wanted to do it on your own terms. You could feel the heat from his hand radiate to your wrist and you hoped he didn't feel the pounding of your thready pulse.
“Sorry,” he apologized to JB, feeling embarrassed from his actions. “I didn't know she was planning to tell you.” He glanced towards you.
“Well I did. Now that I realized…” Did you tell him here? In front of JB and amongst the busy cafe.
“Realized what?” Jinyoung pressed. When you remained silent he asked again, “What did you realize Y/N?”
“Can we talk about this somewhere else? Somewhere more private?”
Jinyoung shook his head, “No, I want to know right here. Right now,”
“Now that I realized I love you too,” It was the first time you had ever said those words. Saying it out loud and so abruptly, you felt the color rise to your cheeks and the urgent need to flee. Your body’s fight or flight response activated in reaction to your sudden confession. Out of the corner of your eye you saw JB smiling; obviously amused and entertained by this side of you that he hadn’t even seen. You cursed Park Jinyoung for this. Jinyoung’s lack of reaction and words further added to your embarrassment. Run. Avoiding eye contact with Jinyoung and mumbling a quick ‘see you’ to JB you brushed past Jinyoung and out of the cafe.
Jinyoung stared after you, first baffled by your words then confused as to why you left so suddenly. Without him. JB laughed, placing a hand on Jinyoung’s shoulder. “Good luck, you’ll have your hands full with her., Take care of y/n and congratulations on finding each other.”
Jinyoung smiled, “Thanks and I will. All the best to you,”
Your heart pounded against your chest as you paced back and forth in front of the cafe. Everything happened so fast. First you told JB that you had found your soulmate, then you admitted your feelings to Jinyoung before you could even fully register to yourself that you love him. A heavy weight had been taken off your heart and you were now ready to give yourself to Jinyoung, to love him and be loved by him, together as soulmates.
“Y/N,” Jinyoung stepped out of the cafe.
You felt the heat rush to your cheeks, unsure if it was out of embarrassment or your symptoms.“Well I guess this is it.” You laughed lightly and shrugged, “I’m all yours.”
There it was. The smile that you had fallen so deeply in love with and had dreamt about since the first day you met him. He walked over to you, pulling you into his arms.
“Say it again,” He murmured.
“I’m all yours,” you said bringing yourself closer to him, almost pressing your body into his.
Jinyoung brushed the hair away from your face, tucking the loose strands behind your ear, “No, say what you told me in the cafe.”
He watched as your brows furrowed trying to recall what you told him. Then your face relaxed into a smile, “Oh, you mean that I love you?”
Jinyoung grinned, “Yes, say it again.”
You wrapped your arms around his neck, tilting your chin up towards him. “I love you Jinyoung,” Before giving him the opportunity to say anything in return you melded your lips to his, sealing your declaration with a kiss. There was no holding back now as your lips moved hot with Jinyoung’s. Just as before, your body roused to him and a searing ache shot straight to your core when his tongue traced your lower lip.
When he pulled away, he smiled at the dazed look on your face. You clutched at his shirt, longing to feel his lips against yours again, the pull you felt towards him as strong as magnets.
“I think we should continue this somewhere else,” his voice low as he rested his forehead against yours. You nodded as you felt the need for him surge throughout your body.
Everything felt like a blur up until you walked through the door of his apartment. A wide range of emotions moved through you. Anxiousness, excitement, desire but when Jinyoung pulled you in for another kiss the only thing that remained was arousal as the two of you stumbled in the direction of his bedroom. Every part of you wanted him, needed him and as his mouth moved to your neck, sucking and enticing you knew you were his completely.
“Do you know how many times I dreamt of you like this?” He murmured as his lips explored their way along your neck and you shuddered in response. “I thought I was on the brink of losing my sanity because of you.”
It was slow torture the way his lips so gently swept across your neck and you felt your body hum in response as his hands gripped at your hips.
“Kiss me Jinyoung,” you craved to feel his mouth against yours again.
“I’m busy right now,” his fingers worked towards the top of your buttons, slowly undoing them, his fingers caressing every inch of newly exposed skin down your cleavage.
He was barely touching you and yet the ache in your center started to build. When he had reached the last remaining buttons he looked at you. His eyes skimming down your torso as he reached and let the silk blouse you wore fall to the ground and white lace revealed. When he bit his bottom lip at the sight of you, you licked your lips. You wanted to nibble at him too.
He hooked his fingers under your straps, “I was always curious to know what you’re wearing underneath when you walked around wearing my clothes.” He ran the material between his fingers, “I can see I was missing out,” he stepped closer towards you, his hands moving back to your hips.
You wound your arms around his neck, pushing yourself against him. “Now will you kiss me?”
“Should I?” he leaned in closer to you, leaving just a few inches between both your lips.
“I think you should,” you smirked and not giving him the opportunity to tease you any longer you closed the remaining distance. He met your mouth eagerly and a throaty moan escaped your mouth when he wasted no time to let his tongue meet yours. Just as you wanted to earlier you caught his bottom lip between your teeth, nibbling and sucking. He groaned when your tongue slid languidly back to meet his, tasting him again. You felt his hands move up your back, reaching for the clasp of your bra in a hurried gesture as he unhooked it. Reaching for your straps he brought them down your shoulders and in a smooth motion he removed the barrier of lace. You let out a heavy breath as you felt your breasts press against the material of his shirt. You loved the way his body felt against yours, his lean build and the way his hands explored your body. When he worked his way to the top of your jeans you felt the eagerness in your core. He helped you step out of your jeans and then he lifted you. You wrapped your legs around his waist as you planted feverish kisses while he brought you towards the bed. You felt your back meet the soft mattress while Jinyoung hovered over you. His hand ran along the side of your body, feeling your curves and basking in the softness of your skin. He was being so gentle with you yet your body ached. There was heat radiating through your body and surging straight to your core. Every place he caressed only further adding to the frenzy that built inside you. You needed Jinyoung desperately to soothe the aching need. You reached for the buttons of his jeans as if to urge him but Jinyoung stopped you, bringing your arms up and over your head as held onto your wrist. He was in charge and the thought of that only fueled your wanting even more.
“Eager aren't we?” He caught your bottom lip between his teeth and nipped at it. “I want to taste you,” he let go of your wrist. His mouth starting to roam down your body. You moaned, arching up to his meet his mouth when his tongue flicked against your nipple.
“I've heard you moan like that so many times in my dreams.” You gripped at the sheets as he took your aroused bud into his mouth, squirming underneath him when you felt the heat in your body settle to your centre.
He smirked, intentionally taking his time with you. He was going to make you want him. The thought of making you beg for him had crossed his mind and appealed to him, but instead, he decided to show you that you were his. It wasn't done on purpose at first. Your skin was so soft and delicate and he loved the taste of you. But he wouldn't deny that he was pleased at the reddish markings that were starting to appear along your neck, down your collar bones and along the swells of your breast where his mouth had explored, inadvertently marking you as his. He continued his exploration down your abdomen, letting his tongue trail down and as if on cue you had spread for him. He placed his arms around your legs nipping at your inner thigh and leaving yet another mark.
“Jinyoung,” you whimpered.
“Mmm?” he responded.
“Please,” you practically begged, feeling the ache in between your legs become almost intolerable. You needed some form of release, anything to soothe the heat that radiated from his touch.
“What do you want?” his teeth grazed against your thigh that had you digging your fingers into the sheets.
“You, please.” you arched but Jinyoung held you down.
“Tell me what you want me to do,” he lips trailed closer to your center.
At this moment he could have you say anything, do anything, you were putty in his hands or in this specific circumstance, entranced from his lips. All you could do was moan from the lack of touch, arching once again to try and reach his mouth.
“Use your words Y/N. Tell me what you want me to do,” he ordered, looking up at you from the top of his lashes. Patiently waiting for you to say it.
“I want to feel your mouth against me. I want you to eat me out,” your voice shaky, saying it out loud only had you aching more.
You let out a lewd moan when Jinyoung’s mouth finally moved to your aching centre. A heated frenzy surging through your body. You whimpered when his teeth grazed your tiny bundle of nerves, pleasure and pain blending together to create a euphoric feeling you had never experienced before. His tongue flicked against your wet heat and you could do nothing but grip at the sheets underneath you. Grinding your hips up and down against his mouth. He was sending you over the edge and just with his mouth alone. You bucked up against him, when his tongue continued to lap up and down your wet and aching core. When he sucked at your throbbing clit, you fisted your hands in his hair, holding him against you as you tightened your legs around him. Jinyoung took the opportunity to suck your clit harder, his tongue swirling around your nerves as your body vibrated from impending climax.
“Fuck, I might cum,” you breathed.
“That's my intention,” a smirk on his face as he continued to drive you closer to the edge. When you thought he couldn't do any more to drive you over the edge you felt his fingers come into contact with your wet entrance.
“Jinyoung!” You writhed when his finger slipped into your core. He held you down, when you tried to arch up, his mouth sinking once again to your wet mound as his fingers started to coax you closer to your peak.
You felt so tight around his one finger that the anticipation of feeling you wrapped around him had him throbbing against the restrictive material of his jeans. When you moaned again, another curse escaping your mouth the desire began to pulsate down to his member. However, he tucked his own needs and desires away as he focused on bringing you towards your first climax. His mouth moved feverishly against your clit, sucking and licking while his fingers began to quicken its pace.
It wasn't heat anymore but fire building up throughout your core. Your body began to tremble, pleasure radiating everywhere. The pressure in your abdomen building as your centre began to clench around his finger.
“Jinyoung!” You cried out as you felt the peak of pleasure hit. Your hips bucking into his mouth as his fingers curled into you, aiding you in your climax. Your body was numb as you relaxed and when he pulled his hand and mouth away you felt empty and though your body was recovering and beyond sensitive you realized you wanted more. You wanted him.
Breath heavy, you propped yourself up onto your elbows. He was kneeling on the floor at the edge of the bed, and you flushed when you made eye contact with him. After all, you were completely naked and he still remained fully dressed. He looked at you as he wiped his chin with the back of his hand. The look in his eyes hinting at you that he wasn't done with you yet. He smirked, enjoying the way you laid there looking well fucked and yet he hadn't even started.
“I want you again,” your voice more confident this time, now that you weren't dazed by his hands and mouth.
There was a flicker in his eyes, an expression on his face that you hadn't seen in the time you had spent with him. It intrigued you, pulling you in and arousing you as a cocky and triumphant grin spread across his face.
“Trust me sweetheart, we’re not even close to being finished,” his voice was husky. The term of endearment sending a thrill throughout your body.
He stood up and immediately your gaze fell to his crotch. You felt your stomach flip in anticipation. It was your turn. You got to your knees crawling towards him on the bed, and Jinyoung cocked his eyebrow.
“My turn,” you cooed, reaching for the buttons of his jeans. This time he didn’t resist, he watched as you brought down his zipper letting out a sigh of relief when he felt the slack of his jeans. You brought his pants down, revealing the tent that formed under his boxers feeling the rush of excitement tingle in your body. Jinyoung reached for the hem of his shirt, pulling it up and over his head. You had seen him shirtless before, remembering the first time you saw him when he had just come out of the shower. Now without guilt you were able to fully admire him and his sculpted torso, the taut lines of his chest and the way his waist narrowed. You remained kneeling on the bed, still completely naked and reached out to touch him. Jinyoung exhaled, closing his eyes as he felt the warmth of your touch when you ran your hands down his torso, sending a jolted frenzy through his body and straight to his loins. Your hands shook as you hooked your fingers at the top of his boxers. It wasn’t from nerves but because your body longed for him, completely drawn to Jinyoung like a magnetic pull. You pulled the material of his boxers down now revealing all of him.
“Oh fuck,” he cursed when he felt the warmth of your hand wrap around his length. His eyes closed when your hand started to stroke up and down, revelling in the sensations of your palm against his hot flesh at a leisurely pace.
You looked up at him enjoying the way his face contorted in pleasure, biting down on his lower lip while you continued to stroke up and down his hard shaft. You clenched your thighs together as you started to feel the ache in your core start to build again.
“Mmm sweetheart your hand feels so good,” Jinyoung groaned.
His words gave you a boost of confidence as you gripped your hand tighter around him, stroking from his base and working up, ensuring that every inch of him was covered. You ran your thumb along his tip spreading the droplet of pre cum that was starting to form along his member and Jinyoung hissed in response, throwing his head back. You were dripping, turned on by the sight of Jinyoung enjoying the pleasure that you were giving him. It wasn't enough, you wanted to give him more.
Jinyoung eyes shot open at the newly felt sensation and pleasure that rushed through his body and sunk deep into his loins. Warm and wet your mouth covered him, as you started to bob your head up and down. The sight of you kneeling naked on the bed, thighs clenching together as your pretty mouth wrapped around his cock was almost enough to drive him over the edge instantly. When you took him deeper into the back of your throat reaching the base of his shaft Jinyoung groaned, instinctively fisting his hands in your hair.
“Y/N,” Jinyoung’s voice low and husky. He pulled away from you, a loud ‘pop’ sound when his length escaped your mouth. You stared up at him wide eyed and confused, did he not like your mouth? His face softened and a smile formed across his face, “I want you,”
You felt the thrill rush over your body and the heated response that started to form as Jinyoung started to kneel onto the bed. Pushing you on your back as he started to position himself between your legs. With the amount of pent up sexual tension and build up since you two had first met you thought the first time being with him would be mindless, craze filled sex. However, Jinyoung was the one in charge and leading the pace. He leaned over you, his hands running gently along your waist leaning in to kiss you softly. You could feel his arousal pressing against your core and it had you aching and the fervent desire to feel him inside you. Yet he continued to take his time, feathering light kisses over your body, his other hand reaching to cup your breast, stroking his thumb along your nipple and you sighed, arching against him once again. As much as he desired to take you and fuck you like he had dreamt of so many nights, he wanted to appreciate this moment. It was going to be the first time you two would be together, joining together as two souls. His hands continued to caress your body, his lips melding with yours. Your hands trailed up and down the taut muscles of his back pushing against him to get as close to him as possible. You could feel the heat radiating off his body. You caught your breath when you felt him start to align with your wet and ready entrance. Then he pushed himself in slowly and you moaned his name as you felt the head of his cock start to stretch your opening. Both your breathing labored as your lips remained entangled with one another. He pushed in little by little, giving yourself time to adjust to his size as well as giving himself a moment as he felt your tight warmth encompass him. Though he moved slowly into you it didn’t stop the stinging sensation as you stretched around him.
“Jinyoung,” you whimpered when you felt him finally bottom out in you. He didn’t move, letting you adjust to his size as your walls clenched around him.
“Are you okay Y/N?” he asked, stroking his thumb along your hip to comfort you.
“P-please move. Oh god, you feel so good in me,” you took it upon yourself to grind your hips against him.
A lewd moan escaped your mouth, your fingers digging into his back as Jinyoung slowly started to thrust into you. “You’re so tight Y/N. Fuck I can barely move without you pushing me out.” Jinyoung groaned, resting his forehead against yours.
You could only reply with ardent moans, loving the feeling of him inside of you. Both of your bodies were in a frenzy. As Jinyoung began to take full deep thrusts into you, you basked in the gloryful feeling of him reaching your spot with every movement, fucking deep into you. Alongside the pleasure that spread throughout your body your heart felt so full. In this moment as your bodies were entangled together, united as one you knew nothing could have felt and been this perfect. You could hear the sounds of his breathing getting heavy as he buried his face in the crook of your neck.
“Jinyoung,” you wanted to say more, wanted to tell him how you were feeling at this very moment and express your love but all you could manage were the avid moans as he continued to bring you closer and closer to the edge.
Jinyoung clutched at the sheets, concentrating on the unbelievable feeling of you wrapped around him. His heart was pounding rapidly against his chest, guttural sounds leaving his mouth as he continued his deep and even thrusts into you. He started to feel the tightening in his lower abdomen, his pace breaking into an erratic rhythm.
You nails raked across his back. He was bringing you closer to your second high and you wrapped your legs around his waist, pulling him against you. The pleasure was almost intolerable, your moans getting lost in his lips as they collided in a hungry desire. Then the fire erupted through your body as you reached the pinnacle of climax.
“Oh Jinyoung!” you shuddered against him as he continued to bring himself to meet you. Then tension in your body relaxing, melding and yielding against him. When he felt your walls clench around him he cursed, thrusting more aggressively into you. Then he bottomed out into you a few more times before his release came.
The two of you laid on his bed, body’s still entangled. Neither one of you willing to break away from each other yet, still basking in the after effects of your love making. When he found the strength Jinyoung rolled over pulling you with him as you laid across his chest and he wrapped his arms around you. You could hear the steady sound of his heart as it started to settle.
“Will you say it again?” he murmured as he started to lazily run his hand along your back.
You smiled against his chest, knowing exactly what he wanted to hear. You looked up at him, “I still haven’t heard you say it since the first time you told me,”
He grinned, the corner of his eyes wrinkling “I love you,”
“Oh is that what you wanted to hear?” you teased. Jinyoung chuckled and you giggled when he pinched your butt. You snuggled into him, “I love you too.”
He continued to trail his fingers along the curves of your back “What are you thinking?” he asked.
“I was just thinking about how fate has a way of pairing two people together.” You answered, sitting up to look at him.
“And what’s your opinion?”
You paused for a moment, “I’m thankful for whatever or whoever decided that it would be us,” Snuggling into him again as a comfortable silence settled between the two of you. “What are you thinking?”
“I was thinking about how I want you again,”
There it was again, the heat passing through your body, igniting from his words and his presence sending a fluttering feeling through your body. “Yeah?”
He shifted himself on top of you, a mischievous grin on his face. “How about a shower?”

Walking inside the house you took your shoes off, letting out a big sight you blinked twice at the sight in front of you. There was two pairs of shoes in the doorway , the white vans your boyfriends wore , and some really pretty sandals. You did not leave any sandals by the door , and those were certainly not yours anyway. Thoughts came flashing in your mind at the various scenarios posible . Instantly , you called out your boyfriends name with a worried tone.
"Mark?" You said but received no answer , you could only hear feet dragging themselves against the carpeted floor.
A girl , about the same age as you came down the stairs in a short summer dress , hair disheveled , lipstick smeared al over her chin and lips. She widened her eyes after noticing you were in the house. Your eyes started getting teary and you shook your head. Mark came down the stairs behind her , hugging her from behind and noticed you.
"Hey babe , wha-" he said smiling but then he looked in between you and the girl , finally aware of your teary eyes. He shook his head furiously. "Babe listen , I can explain"
"You fixed my heart , just to break it again" you said , remembering that time when you met Mark. You had just broken up with you 2 year boyfriend , who cheated on you in your house , in your bed, while you were out working your butt off. And now mark was doing the same.
"No no no listen baby that's not it" he started but you just didn't want to hear it and turned around. Starting to walk out the door. He ran after you , just when you set foot on the last step , he grabbed your shoulder.
"Baby listen~"he started but you cut him off
"Mark , I dot want to hear it. You know how I feel about cheating , why couldn't you just break~" He shut you up with a kiss. You melted into it and let every tear out grabbing his face with both hands and deepening the kiss as he circled you torso with his hands.
"She's my cousin honey. She came back last Tuesday , and I could only see her today. I know I should've told you and I'm sorry , but please trust me. You are by far the best thing that has happened to me. Every time I hear your name I get butterflies in my stomach. I can spend the rest of my life watching you smile and I wouldn't get bored. You're amazing and I don't deserve you. But baby please , just please trust me" he finished with a kiss on your nose , and you blushed hard at his statement , embarrassment taking over you. You covered you face with your hands and let out a frustrated screech and he just chuckled and hugged you resting his chin on your head.
" Mark..." you began
"Yeah ?" He said for you to go on
"I'm sorry for misunderstanding , it's just today was a frustrating day. And I know I was wrong and I'm sorry just please forgive me " you said now looking at him straight in the eyes and he smiled sweetly saying
"I think you should say sorry to my cousin, she's probably trying to figure out what was going on." He said jokingly and you hit him in the chest
"Also markiepooh , have I mentioned today how lucky I am to be In love with you?" You stated and he blushed a little shaking his head.
"We should go inside , so you can meet her. Excuse her appearance, she just woke up from a long nap" he stated and you nodded , walking behind him.
I hope you liked it! ♭

Soulmate - a person ideally suited to another as a close friend or romantic partner.
Ideal. Everything about this situation was less than ideal. Not only had you not found your soulmate, but you were haunted by the words tattooed on the inside of your wrist. The first words your soulmate would say to you, to be exact.
Everyone was branded with a tattoo on the inside of their wrist of the first words their soulmate would say to them. For most, it was a cute pickup line or even something obscure enough to be able to easily identify your soulmate. But you, you were a whole other story. The word “Damn” was written across your wrist in a fancy font. It left so many questions in your mind as well as confusing you beyond belief. Not to mention anytime you heard someone utter the word “damn” you started a frantic search for your soulmate. It never was your soulmate though.
You let out a sigh before pulling down the sleeves of your jacket to cover the ink. It wasn’t a particularly cold day out, but it beat the weird stares you received if they took a look down at your wrist.
Today was your day off, one of the very few you actually got, so you decided to take a walk around town to get out of your small apartment and take in the beauty of the city you lived in. You had ventured into a busy part of town. There were a lot of shops and little cafes around as well you noticed as a park across the street. It was beautiful, even if the streets were crowded with people. You also noticed a group of guys, about seven of them, near one of the clothing shops staring at you. Your eyebrows came together as you took in their appearance, they were all wearing hoodies much like yourself, but unlike you, their eyes were shielded with sunglasses and their mouths covered by masks. They stuck out to you, even though they tried hard not to. You brushed it off, continuing on your adventure. Halfway down the street, you heard that infamous word again.
“Damn!”
You whipped around to find one of the guys from before. His eyes were no longer shaded by sunglasses and his smile was on full display due to his mask having disappeared. He still had his hood up, but you could see a bit of his fiery blue hair peeking out from beneath the fabric. You were too busy admiring his features you had forgotten that he had uttered the very same word that was etched into your skin.
Thinking of the first thing that popped into your head you responded, “Damn yourself.”
It was then that the smug smile plastered on his face disappeared and his face became paler. Walking closer to him you noticed him pull up the sleeve of his hoodie to reveal his tattoo.
There on the inside of his wrist, “Damn yourself” was written in black ink. You looked up at him in shock, his expression matching yours almost perfectly.
“I-I just thought you were hot,” he mumbled, more to himself than you.
“Looks like we both got more than we bargained for today, huh?” You smiled.
“I guess so,” he chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
“I’m y/n, and you are?” You asked, sticking out a hand for him to shake.
“BamBam,” he smiled reaching out to grab your hand.
Just as your hands were about to meet, he swiped his hand up and across his face while the other arm jutted out towards the sky.
“Or as my friends call me, DabDab,” he grinned.
“No one calls you that!” You heard someone exclaim.
You peered around BamBam to find his friends peeking out from behind a corner. They tried to move before you saw them but it was too late, you knew they were there. You shook your head, a giggle falling from your lips.
“Nice to see my soulmate has a sense of humor,” BamBam chuckled.
“Nice to finally meet you, BamBam.”
You smiled up at the taller boy. Even though the tattoo had caused you your fair share of grief, you felt it was all worth it.
From the Aorta to the Apex (4/4)
Title : From the Aorta to the Apex (4/4) Author : Myself Genre : AU, Fluff Pairing : Mark x OC Summary : Bored surgeons and boring conferences lead to not so boring encounters.
PART I // PART II // PART III
Part IV
“Here you go lil’ buddy. Chocolate and strawberry!” Mark kneeled in front of your son and handed the ice-cream to the small human, winking. He took the next cone and handed it to you. His own ice-cream was next and after he insisted on paying, the three of you were walking around the nearest park.
Mark was looking at your son who was walking in front of you, laughing at pigeons and licking the sweet ice-cream. There wasn’t a lot of things to talk about, mostly because you were feeling uncomfortable, and Mark looked like it was the most natural thing for him to do, which was even more upsetting.
“You’re lucky to have a son.” He said and you looked at him, puzzled. You remembered seeing a pink baby seat in his car, and it made you react.
“There was a....baby seat...” You tried, not ready for the possibility of him being married and owning a whole army of little Mark Tuan, all perfect and beautiful.
“Oh yeah...” He took his phone out of his back-pocket and showed you his screen.
A small girl, about your son’s age, was smiling widely at the camera. It looked like some teeth were missing since there were two little holes in her smile.
“I told you toothless were my favourite.” His teasing tone made you snap out of the picture and you nodded, emotionless, like a robot.
Of course, the perfect Dr Tuan had to have a family.
“She is...cute.” Suddenly you wanted to fly out of the place, go back home and stop sounding like the desperate divorced bitch you were, but it was him who had forced his way on you and your son, and insisted on buying ice-cream. Mark tilted his head to meet your face and you took a step back, surprised by the sudden action.
“What are you thinking about...?” He asked, and he too, looked startled.
“I... I think I should go back home.” You called your mini version over and the small boy ran back to you, his painful arm long forgotten.
“No, wait-”
“Shall we go?” You asked your son and he nodded, peeking over at Mark who looked powerless.
“Let me take you back, then.” He proposed and you acquiesced. Even if you needed to get out of there, you were too far away from your place.
The ride back was as silent as the soft snores coming from your son’s half opened mouth.
“Who is he?”
You thought your sister was some girl living for gossips, but you forgot who she had taken after.
Your mother.
“Just a surgeon working at the same hospital.” You tried being nonchalant, but your sister, hands full with a big plate, appeared and put it between you three.
“He was so nice with her son, you should have seen this, mom.” Their giggles made you roll your eyes, disbelief written all over your bored face.
“There’s absolutely no need for you to get so worked up. He has a daughter. He is probably married with some perfect person, with a beautiful dog and a big house.” You found yourself picturing the perfect Mark Tuan raising kids, having a successful career, and succeeding in pretty much everything he did.
“A married man wouldn’t ask a woman and a kid out, in the open.” Your mother’s pursed lips blew on the hot beverage in her cup.
“Also, you said he told this other doctor not to wait for him.”
“Oh my, maybe he is on a relationship with the other one and they adopted a little girl?”
Your sister laughed at your mother’s shocked face, and you coughed.
“The only way to find out is to ask him. Why didn’t you do so?” She added.
You shrugged, feeling ridiculous for acting like a high school student. “I don’t want to show my interest.” You put your own cup down. “I’m not that desperate.”
“You’re getting old, put your damn pride aside and ask him. That is, if he talks to you again after you pouted like a kid and ignored him.” You made a face at your mother.
Sometime you understood how she had ended up divorced like you.
“She is right. You should ask him out.”
“I swear you both should get a life.” You mumbled, lips sour with sugar free coffee.
As annoying as it was, they were right. You were mad at yourself for reacting the way you did, but then again, you had wished for more, and ever since the beginning, you were trying to push away the fact that he was attracting you in more than one way.
“I’ll let you do the dressing. Thanks for the hard work.” You bowed at the nurses and took off your gloves, palms sweaty. Jinyoung was finishing the work while you got ready for your next appointment. This afternoon had been calm and you only had one surgery, which was good considering the poor amount of motivation you had today.
“Can I talk to you for a minute?” Your looked toward the origin of the noise and found, -what a coincidence- Dr Tuan, all shiny and perfect. Your gaze followed his body from his stylish sneakers to his wavy hair and you cursed you own mind for drooling at the sight.
A nod was all you could show to avoid unnecessary comments about pretty boys and flawless bodies.
“I wanted to know if...maybe I had done something bad?” He tried, eyes scanning the white room while you were taking off your green disposable gown.
“What do you mean?” Feigning ignorance had always been your forte.
“The other day...I don’t understand what happened.” He stated and you were amazed at how sincere he was with himself. He had something on his mind, and he was directly asking.
“Oh...I just, it felt uncomfortable, walking around with the father of a young girl.” You said and he tilted his face. You had decided to say it clearly, too.
“Is...me being a father a problem?” You took off your hygiene cap and nodded. Of course there was a problem!
“I mean. I don’t think it’s a good idea-“
“What is? Seeing me? Because it didn’t look like it was a problem back at the conference.” His tone had changed and it took you by surprise so you simply raised a brow at him, clueless.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Maybe he was a beautiful, crazy human being.
“Forget it. Sorry for troubling you.” He looked really hurt and you were startled at how uneasy it made you feel, stomach sinking at his troubled eyes.
He turned around and walked straight to the operating room’s exit, leaving you blinking at the unrealistic exchange you just had.
“Still here?” Jinyoung entered, taking off his own gown
You didn’t answer, and proceeded to storm out of the room.
“Why did you get mad, you stupid ass.”
Jackson was eating a perfectly shaped hot-dog, legs crossed on a bench in the Hospital big yard.
“What should I do then? Apparently, she’s got a kid and she doesn’t want me to have one. Also, she doesn’t even remember that we...you know.” He took a fast sip from his soda, legs spread and slowly moving.
“Well, maybe she thinks you’re married and you just want to hit on her. Also, you told me she was wasted, don’t blame her for not remembering.” Jackson stated, shrugging.
“It’s ridiculous. She can’t be thinking that I’m in a relationship. And I don’t care if she doesn’t remember, you know.” Mark scoffed.
“Just admit she gave you the best sex ever and you’re sad she doesn’t remember you.” Teased Jackson and he showed him his middle finger.
“Mark, my stupid friend. Just go and explain yourself. Tell her you like her and need more of her. What’s wrong with that?”
“Wait...maybe she is actually married?” Mark said next, holding Jackson’s arm and the latter just whined.
“I give up, you two are hopeless cases. You used to be more spirited.” The young paediatrician said and Mark brushed him off.
It’s been two weeks since you last saw Mark. Your super cool surgery had been cancelled because the patient didn’t want to be a guinea pig and you were glad not having to deal with him. You had told Jinyoung to contact another surgeon from the research team and he had agreed after numerous questions.
You were waiting with your son for the doctor, hoping he would agree in taking off the cast covering his arm. He had been complaining for two days now, saying it was so itchy it hurt and you had decided to ask for an appointment with the doctor who had put it on him.
“Y/N...?” Dr Wang was holding a paper and smiled sweetly at you two, opening the door to let you enter.
“So, let me guess...itchy?” The doctor took your son’s arm and inspected it.
“We’ll do an x-ray, just to be sure.” He said and called for a nurse to take your son to the x-ray room.
“It won’t take long.” He told you and you were about to take the exit when he stopped you.
“Can I talk to you?” You looked at him, puzzled and stilled.
“You’re...Mark’s friend, right?” he asked and you didn’t know how much he knew, but you shook your head.
“I wouldn’t say friend, but I know him, why?” You inquired, eyes narrowing at the goofy doctor.
“Oh, good then. Since Mark is the most stupid person I know, I think I need to share some information with you. First of all, he is divorced. He has a little girl, lives with me and is very much single. He is a boring man, but he is genuine.” You tried processing all the elements, blinking slowly at him but only one thing had made it to your brain.
Mark was single.
“So yeah I know it’s not my place to talk, but he’s been grumpy, and he doesn’t want to admit it but it has to do with you.” He stopped when your son came back, smiley, with a nurse. She handed him the x-rays and he high fived your son’s valid hand.
“Guess who can take off his cast?”
Your son cheered so loudly it made Jackson laugh, like a little boy.
So, maybe Dr Tuan had been...sincere, you thought as you both exited the small office, your eyes not missing the knowing stare Dr Wang was throwing toward you.
“When is aunty coming?” Your son said, moving his arm around as if it was a new part of his small body.
“She’ll be here in a minute.” You said, opening your office’s door and taking a seat on your office’s chair, sighing loudly. Your afternoon had been cleared by Jinyoung who needed some training with electrocardiograms and you had two appointments, at the end of the afternoon.
A knock on the door made your son jump to open it while you were reading some blood-tests results on your laptop screen. You were waiting for a sort of reaction from your son, followed by your sister’s voice but none of it came, so you raised your head from your screen.
Mark was right there.
He looked at your son, then back at you, then back at your son again, and it seemed like it was stopping him from speaking, because he said nothing.
“Can I....help you?” You asked.
“It’s the ice-cream man!” You son squealed and Mark smiled at him.
It made your heart skip a beat.
“I...I’ll come back later...I thought you wer-“
“You’re having a little reunion?” Your sister voice made you lean to get a view and her face appeared from behind Mark’s shoulder.
“Aunty!” You son squealed and she took him in her arms, whistling at his newly healed arm.
Mark looked uneasy “I’ll come back later.”
“No, no, we’ll go now. Don’t worry, right?” Your sister looked at your son and they both raised they thumbs toward Mark, who chuckled sweetly at the two.
“Call me later!” Her voice echoed in the hallway.
After a short silence, Mark closed the door behind him. He looked awfully nervous.
“I just saw Jackson. I’m sorry about what he said, I never asked him to-”
“You should have told me you were divorced. It would have made things easier.” You spoke, a bit ashamed by your previous outburst and put a hand over your face, rubbing it.
“I thought it was pretty clear. I thought you’d get it.”
“And what about the conference? I don’t understand what happened there for you to be annoyed the other day.” You asked again and he stood, in the middle of the office, speechless.
“You really don’t remember?” he was perplexed when you only nodded in response.
“Don’t drink again. The sticky note, in your room?” Mark tried and you tilted your head.
Damn it. Of course. It made sense.
It was crazy, but it made sense. Your put a hand over your mouth as realization dawned upon you and looked at him.
“Do you...understand, now?” Mark approached your office slowly.
“Oh god...I was wasted. You’re the one...I can’t believe it was you.” You said, head falling on your office in shame and ears as red as tomatoes.
“And here I was asking for justifications.” You added, putting the pieces back together.
But...wait a minute. What was Mark doing here, then?
“I thought you remembered. That’s why I...” He explained, face going as red as yours and it made you groan.
“I’m sorry...I saw your kid and made a fool of myself...” You said but Jinyoung entered, stopping when he saw the two of you talking.
“Your patient is waiting but I guess you’re busy...” he trailed off.
“Damn, I’m late. Bring him in, Jinyoung.” You said fast and got up to prepare the auscultation table.
“Now that it’s clear...” Mark said, already heading toward the exit.
“If you’re free, wait for me, I finish at 6.” You said, putting the stethoscope around your neck.
Mark’s face lightened and he smiled at you “Yes, sure. I will.”
You did your best moving around to cover your raging heart as your patient entered, and ignored Jinyoung’s teasing eyes.
You didn’t listen to your patient. You felt ashamed, but you could only think about Mark and the fact that he surely was waiting for you like you asked him to. The old man didn’t notice and kept on rambling about how his wife was making his blood pressure go high every day.
Jinyoung came to assist to the appointments, and it finished with him totally taking the patients in charge, you being too focused on your own sick heart to be of any use.
“Are you still with us?” He said and you snapped your head up, your eyes meeting an unpleased old woman.
“Yes, yes.” You glanced at the clock. 5.50....“Keep going.” You tapped your pen against the brown wood of your desk and tried to act like you were actually listening.
But you were not, and even less when the woman got out of the office. Jinyoung smirked at you as soon as the door was closed.
“What’s happening? Does it have something to do with Dr Tuan?” He asked.
You scoffed, but your stammer made you lose the tiny once of credibility you once had “No-no-not at-at-at a-a-all! I’m f-f-f-fine!”
He laughed “Sure. Anyways, I still have things to work on so I’ll stay here. Have fun!” he opened the door, and his teasing whistle didn’t even make you react.
You were too stressed to deal with him. You took off your white coat and threw it on your chair before running to the tiny mirror behind your desk.
You were not the prettiest, but this would do. A deep sigh went past your lips and you tried gathering some courage before taking your own coat and bag.
Mark was leaning against the wall and you saw him as soon as you opened the door.
“Hey.” He looked as embarrassed as you when you reached his level.
“Hey.” You answered back, avoiding his eyes. Now that this situation was cleared, it was hard to avoid any sort of awkwardness between you two.
Mark took a deep breath “Why did you want to see me...?” He looked expectant.
You bite your lips and tried smiling “Well...I mean, about what you said, you know, we....oh, well.” It didn’t make any sense. You were never able to do these type of things, even less now that you were older and a mother. You sounded like a teen in love.
Mark didn’t look any better. “Ah. Yes. How can I say that...I thought you were kind of...interested? I mean, it’s not about sex but...” He sighed. “I’m lame, sorry.”
You chuckled. Mark was even cuter with the tip of his ears as red as fresh tomatoes. “I am. I really am.” You couldn’t lie, not when Mark had been nothing but an awesome person until now.
His smile was huge “Really? Wow. Do you have some time tonight?”
You thought for a minute. Your sister was supposed to take care of your kid until you finished work. It’s not like she would mind if you asked her, and even more if it’s about Dr Tuan.
“Sure but...your kid...?”
Mark shook his head. “Jackson was supposed to take her to the amusement park after kindergarten anyways so I’m free for the evening.” He didn’t tell you he ran to Jackson during your appointments to ask him for this favour, though.
This is how you found yourself taking Mark to your place. You were too exhausted to stay out anyways, and Mark had insisted he could cook something for the both of you but that Jackson could be back at any moment with his daughter.
He wanted to be alone with you. He really wanted this.
“We should order something.” You said, eyes scanning through your empty fridge. Mark came behind you and tilted his head. “We should.” He agreed with a nod. You ran to your cupboard and took out numerous flyers. “I have pizza, Chinese, Mexican and....ah, chicken. You pick.”
“Chicken is good.” He answered before taking a seat on your sofa. Is eyes scanned your living-room and fell on the numerous toys scattered by your kid. He smiled.
“You own many luxury cars.”
You looked up from the flyer “hmm? Ah yes. My boy likes them flashy, I told you.” You teased before taking your phone to order.
Mark left some room for you on the sofa and you decided to turn on the television before silence became too much to handle. There was nothing to say, not when the only thing you shared was a drunk night full of wild sex.
“So...” Mark started, body frozen next to yours “why did you become a cardiologist? I mean, why studying the heart?” He decided it would be best to restart from the beginning. After all, he knew nothing about you.
“I don’t know. I wish I could say that the heart is the most important organ and talk about mushy stuff but in reality, I think it’s because my ex-husband is one, too.” You shrugged.
“Your ex-husband is a cardiologist?”
“Yes, he has his own office and works with a private hospital.” Your husband was a strict man with too little humour. He was serious in every circumstance, and when you used to admire him, you now resented him more than anything.
“Can I ask what happened?” Mark sounded cautious, like he didn’t want to intrude into your privacy.
“I filled the divorce papers after he cheated on me for the fourth time. I thought I could live with it, but it was hard seeing him with his secretary. I can’t blame him though. He likes glamourous and sensual women and as time passed by I became a rusty girl with too little time for makeup and a worn-out body.”
Mark eyes grew big. “What do you mean? He left you because of this?”
“He changed. Back in the days he was more of a romantic. I guess he isn’t into post-pregnancy stretchmarks” Your sarcasm didn’t go unnoticed by Mark.
“That’s bullshit. He is a bastard, that’s all.” His voice was suddenly deeper and you stopped watching the television to find him staring at you.
“If you say so...how about you?”
“Hmm..I became a cardiologist because that’s what I preferred studying in the past. I went for the easy way and when I had enough, I decided to get into the research team. I felt hopeless when I couldn’t help my patients and decided I would do my best to come up with new possibilities for everyone.”
You acquiesced, silent. Mark sounded so dedicated to his job.
“As for my daughter...I was married to a model in America. Having a kid wasn’t in our plans and she decided her career couldn’t go to waste just because of a kid. I have full custody of her now. I was offered a job in this hospital as a researcher and decided to live here. That’s pretty much all.”
The only thing you could remember was “You were married to a model...?” great, just great. He was used to be around the prettiest girls and here he was, chatting with your tired ass. From the stares he was receiving daily, it was no surprise that this man had been in a relationship with a beauty.
Mark blinked at you. “...yes? Why?” he was clueless.
“No, nothing. It’s just that I’m far from being a model. Must have been new for you when we...” Your laugh didn’t sound genuine and it disappeared as soon as Mark approached your face.
“Do I look like I care about this...?” he studied your face for a while, searching any sign of uncertainty.
“No but, I mean, you’re just, very attractive and I don’t think I’m-“
“Woah woah, wait.” Mark’s shy smile made you lean back a little. You couldn’t handle it. “Don’t think this way, I’m not better than anyone else. I’m just a boring man, honestly. I have a ton of flaws but I do know for sure that I’m attracted to you in a lot of ways.” You were both surprised by his sudden confession.
“...What?” Ok, that escalated quickly.
“I’m very, very attracted to you. I thought it was obvious. Particularly after that night.” Mark stated like it was the most natural thing for him.
“Oh, well...” it was obvious, after all. You were just too stupid to notice it.
“You don’t remember a thing, but I really wanted this.”
You tilted your head. Why did you drink so much that night?
“What...happened?”
So naturally, Mark told you about every details.
“You drank too much!” Mark stumbled a bit after his fifth glass of wine, giggling.
“You too!” You yelled back. You were both walking in the hotel’s many halls, trying to stand up on your feet while Mark was holding you, arm around your hips.
“I’m good!” he laughed and you both turned to the last hall leading to your hotel room. You were glad the two hotels were right next to each other and when you both decided the after party was going to be boring -and after way too much alcohol- Mark offered to take you back to your room. You agreed, because Mark was too attractive and you couldn’t let this awesome man go. Your drunk self was making you do things you never thought you could still do after one failed marriage and a kid.
“It’s here!” You spluttered, hands showing the door.
“The damsel has reached her castle!” It was lame, but you laughed, because alcohol made anything funny.
“Thank you, my valiant knight!” Your voice was insanely loud and way too happy. You wobbled to the door and leaned on it, hands reaching for your purse to take your key.
Mark was leaning against the wall, hands in his pockets.
“I can now find rest, thank you, my saviour!” You bowed and almost fell when the door opened, but Mark was quick to reach for you, avoiding one hell of a painful fall.
“Gotcha.” He smirked and suddenly, his face was dangerously close.
“Sorry...” Your breath smelled like alcohol and your face was a mess but to Mark’s eyes, it was mesmerising.
“I know I’m very drunk and you are too, but I really want to kiss you.” You could already feel his nose brush against your cheek.
“I’m not- I don’t do this usually.” You whispered, hands reaching for his jacket for balance.
“Me neither...” Was all he said before reaching for your mouth. The kiss was slow and sensual, just like you thought it would be. Mark’s hands had left your sides to grab your face, and his long fingers cupped your face to bring your body even closer.
He sighed into your moist lips, just before darting his tongue to deepen the kiss. It was a blissful feeling, full of affection and the taste of alcohol was intoxicating.
“Wait..” You mumbled and he released your lips with a soft sound without pushing you away.
“Hmm?” his eyes were closed.
“Let’s not regret this.” No matter how drunk you were, you didn’t want to do this just for the sake of sex. Mark looked like an interesting person who you knew nothing of, and you needed a confirmation that he wasn’t doing this just because he needed some sort of release. You knew you were going to feel like shit the day after, and you knew Mark wouldn’t be there. You felt so stupid suddenly.
Mark opened his eyes and your drunk mind felt even more hopeless in front of his dazzling features. “I’m not drunk enough for that. I want you.”
“But, tomorrow...”
“I’d still want you, If you’d want me.” He kissed you again and suddenly, you didn’t feel so lonely.
Your opened mouth and shocked face made you look like a dying fish. So this is what happened? You looked up at Mark, who was nervously glancing at you.
“I...did this.”
Mark nodded, waiting for any kind of reaction from you. “Are you okay...?”
“I made a fool of myself.” It was so embarrassing. You were drunk and acted like a clingy bitch, while jumping on the poor Mark.
The latter sighed softly “You make me feel confused so I’m just going to ask you: Do you regret this? I don’t regret it, just like I told you. I’ve been pretty much chasing you around ever since the conference and I have no idea whether you want me or not. Just like you I have a child so I’m not looking for a sex partner and I need to know if you think of me the same way I think of you.” You closed your eyes.
Maybe you have atrial fibrillation. Your heart was about to burst out of your chest and it wasn’t normal.
“I’m not used to this, Mark. Look, as much as I’d love to give in, you have to know that I’m a messy single mother. It sucks to be with me, for real.” Self-deprecation was your main talent.
Mark wasn’t having it “Enough with this. Stop thinking so little of you when I find you wonderful. You said you’d love to give in so just give in and let’s see where it takes us. I don’t want to pressure you so I’m not going to insist but just so you know, I already really like you.”
“Wait, how could you like me-”
“I just do so don’t try to find a scientific explanation.” Mark laughed and you were surprised to see he wasn’t getting annoyed by your pitiful speech. “You can’t always explain the ways of the heart.”
The bell rang and it made you jump off the sofa, leaving the poor Mark “Must be the chicken!” you yelled before he could protest. You came back with a big bag and prepared everything on the table, knowingly avoiding the topic and trying to focus on preparing the food.
Mark was looking at you, static.
“Here.” You handed him the small steamy box and he thanked you, not taking his eyes off your busy face. You didn’t say anything else and it stayed that way until you were both finished. Mark knew it was just a matter of self-confidence, so he didn’t insist, doing his best to hide his disappointed face.
The end of the evening was quiet, as quiet as dinner was and Mark didn’t try to convince you. When you were both done eating he decided not to stay and thanked you warmly for the food. He greeted you from the doorway, too scared to try anything and even though it was for the best, you secretly wanted him to be closer.
Instead, you closed the door and leaned against it, closing your eyes. You were so stupid.
The rest of the week was spent running around the hospital for appointments and replacements. One of your colleague was sick and you had a lot of things to do, including taking in charge the thirty hospitalized patients in the surgery unit.
Jinyoung was doing the same, trying to catch up between classes and surgeries, doing his best to reduce the amount of work you had.
You didn’t see Mark anymore.
Maybe he was gone? Maybe you broke his heart and he decided to go back to America? It couldn’t be it; he could have anyone and he sure was going to find someone better. You chuckled to yourself as you opened the hospital’s main hall doors, aiming for a much-needed break. You closed your eyes when the sun hit your face and sat on one of the bench. People were running around but you could only focus on silence. When did it come to this? When you were young, you knew you wanted to become a doctor. You didn’t know you’d become a heart surgeon, but one thing was sure, it was the fact that you wanted to heal people of whatever they had.
“Excuse me...?” You opened one eye when a tiny voice with a strong accent filled the air. Right next to you was a small girl with light brown hair and huge eyes, looking up at you with amusement. Her face felt kind of familiar.
“Yes?” You asked, amazed by the beauty of her features and her doll-like appearance.
“I’m lost. I just wanted to play but now I’m lost.” She didn’t look the least annoyed by the situation, mischief painted all over her tiny and cute face.
“Shall we go back inside and look for your parents?” You found yourself asking. The girl shrugged, she didn’t look like she wanted it.
“Dad is busy but uncle must be looking for me. He keeps on pinching my cheeks...” She looked disgusted, and her tiny hands reached for her face, hiding the flesh in a protective manner.
You almost melted and got up, reaching for her hand and taking it. “Come on...your name is?”
“Nicole.” The tiny girl answered and started to walk next to you, trying to remember where she came from.
“Nicole, that’s a cute name. Where is your uncle?” You walked and stopped in front of the main elevator.
“He works here! He takes care of other kids!” She beamed and jumped, proud to have such a superhero as an uncle.
“Oh, really?” You thought for a minute. The elevator came and you pressed the button leading to the only unit taking care of kids. The emergency room.
The door opened and Nicole smiled brightly. “It is where I was!!” You smiled back at her and walked deeper into the huge unit, greeting impatient people waiting.
“So, who is your uncle?” You started, looking into numerous rooms to find the person who might be the girl’s uncle.
“Uncle Jackson!” The girl announced and it made you freeze. Uncle Jackson?
“Jack-son?” You repeated, stopping to kneel in front of the girl and she smiled, grabbing your face softly to cup it “You’re so pretty.” Her smile had tiny holes in it, proof of her teeth slowly falling. You looked up at her and her eyes made you stare back at her, in shock.
How could you be so stupid?
“Nicky!” You both heard and found Dr Wang walking fast toward you two. You got up and Nicole let go of your hand to rush to him, falsely sad.
What an actress.
“I’m so sorry uncle, I just needed to go pee-pee.” She lied, hands going to her cheeks to hide them. Jackson made a cute sound and you rolled your eyes at his gullibility.
“It’s okay, don’t do this again, got it? Your dad is going to kill me!” She zipped her mouth and he did the same, both of them laughing like they were evil and Jackson got up to greet you.
“Thank you for bringing her back. She doesn’t know how to behave.” You shook your head at him and didn’t say more. It was best it-f you could escape before-
“What are you all doing here?” Mark’s voice made you close your eyes slowly, not liking where this was going.
“Nothing dad!” She giggled and Jackson became pale.
“Nothing, why would something ha-ha-happen? Right, Y/N?” Jackson looked at you and you could only frown, ready to beat him up for including you in this.
You looked at Mark who was waiting for you to speak. “Hm, we were just chatting.” You didn’t waste any more time and decided to fly away from the scene, cursing at yourself for not remembering the girl’s face.
You almost ran to the elevator and hit the button so hard you almost hurt your hand.
“Come up...hurry up, hurry...” You whispered, not turning around and ignoring everyone around you. You rushed inside when the tiny bell made a sound and pressed the first button you found a couple of times. The doors closed and you finally let go of your breath.
A hand though, made you back off in horror and Mark’s body appeared, eyes stuck on you. He walked deeper into the elevator and leaned against the wall, arms crossed.
“Thanks.” He said and you decided to avoid him at all cost. No matter what he was thanking you for, you were certainly not going to let it get to you.
“Hm.” You hummed back, avoiding his eyes.
“I saw you outside with Nicole.” He explained and it finally made sense in your head. He knew, then.
“Hm.” You looked at the little notice on the elevator’s wall like it was the most important thing in the world.
But you felt him approach you and the heat building by your side proved that he wasn’t going to let you go this easily.
“Are you ignoring me...?” His tone broke your heart but you needed to be strong. You could do it. No, you didn’t miss him, not at all.
He pressed on your shoulder and made you lean flat against the wall, your body facing him. “You are.” He concluded and you looked down, eyes focusing on the deep brown floor.
Mark sighed, hand reaching for your chin to make you look up. “You’re so stubborn.” He lifted your face and you instantly closed your eyes, avoiding him.
It made him laugh. “Come on, look at me.” His tone was different now, more velvety and luscious, which made you open your eyes to look at his dangerously close face.
“Mark...” Was the only thing you could say. He was here, looking absolutely stunning and you were rejecting him again. After all this time when you didn’t see him, you refused to admit it felt good to feel the radiant heat of his perfect body drawing you to him like a magic spell.
“Yes..?” his eyes fell on your lips and he licked his own while hand went to the elevator’s control panel and he pressed the stop button, which immobilized the tiny stall.
“I...we...I don’t..” What could you say?
Mark only chuckled, hand slowly going to your neck to grab it. “Quiet.” He ordered and pulled you against him, kissing you with such intensity that it made you lift a hand to grip his gown.
It was just like you thought it would be: soft. Mark was taking his sweet time tasting you, not minding the fact that the elevator was now blocked. You answered the kiss and it was all that mattered to him so he pressed his body against yours, tempting his luck some more and showing you how much he needed you next to him.
It had been a hard week for him. He wanted to forget about you, to forget about everything involving you but it didn’t work, not when he was seeing you everywhere at the hospital. He had to hide every time, turn around and avoid you because he knew he wouldn’t be able to ignore you but today, just as he was coming back from lunch, he saw you with his daughter, being gentle and walking hand in hand. He did try to look away but he ended up following you, eyes glued to the amazing scene of the woman he loved taking care of the girl he loved.
He was way too soft to ignore the feeling, even less when Nicole grabbed your face with a tenderness he didn’t know she could have. He knew then. He knew he couldn’t keep going like this. Mark had to do everything he could. You had to accept him, somehow.
He released your lip with a soft sucking noise and blinked at you, motionless. It was like time froze around you, and you couldn’t even hear the voices behind the closed doors, explaining the elevator was blocked.
“You were so beautiful with Nicole. I can’t, I couldn’t control it.” His breath tickled your face and made your heart flip. You chose to be silent, and preferred listening to this perfect guy who was now doing his best to win your stupid heart.
“Now stop rejecting me. I know you like me too, but you don’t have to be scared. You’re worth everything I can offer and more and you’re so pretty and kind and soft and your body is perfect and I want to be a family with you. Please.” He said fast and you took a moment to swallow his long confession, merely looking up to meet his pleading eyes and reddish lips.
“I just...” You wanted to say yes so bad. Mark was offering himself on a silver plate, vulnerable and honest yet you were hesitating.
He let out a frustrated sigh “You just what?”
“I don’t want you to be disappointed.” Here you were again, belittling yourself.
“I won’t. I really won’t. I’ll be disappointed if you reject me again, yes.”
You laughed bitterly. “You’re too much for me to handle, Mark.”
“You can do it. You’ll handle me in no time, believe me.” He whispered, already pulling you against him again to kiss you with more passion. He will succeed, he knew it.
After what felt like eternity he released you totally, taking a step away. You didn’t talk, eyes still closed and mind in total conflict. Why were you so scared to give in?
Mark had enough it seemed, because he reached for the control panel again, ready to press on the stop button again to unblock the elevator. “I get it.” He should stop insisting. He was making a fool of himself when you clearly didn’t want to be with him.
But it made you feel even more frightened. So he was giving up for real? You should feel happy because he was going to stop showing up and tempting you, but at the same time, you knew you were going to be eaten by regrets. Mark could really move on and forget about you, leaving you lonely just because you refused to accept his heart.
Your hand stopped his before he could press the button and he looked up at you, shocked.
“Okay. Okay.” You announced. Mark tilted his head.
“Okay...what?” He needed you to say it to believe it.
“I want to be a family, too.” You never felt so shy in your whole life. Mark was making you feel so vulnerable and powerless, you could only look at the floor again, lip trapped between your teeth, still moist because of the previous heated kiss.
Mark smiled brightly and made a sound that felt like music to your ears.
“Finally.” He uttered before grabbing your body and hugging you.
It was the most blissful feeling ever.
“It wasn’t me!”
“You did! You cut her hair!”
“No! NOT.ME!”
You entered the room when you heard yells and stopped in front of the kids fighting again. It was only 6 a.m, how could they be already up and spirited this early?
“What happened?” You asked, kneeling in front of the two tornados.
“He cut my doll’s hair.” Nicole’s soft whining voice made you turn around to your son angrily.
“I didn’t do it!” he whispered, his will to lie fading under your judging eyes.
“Why did you do this...?” You asked, grabbing his hand to make him stand in front of you.
“She ate the cookies.” He pointed at the empty box, forgotten on the floor and Nicole put a hand in front of her mouth.
“It was a secret!” She breathed but your son tried to make his most pitiful face, pleading for your mercy.
You grabbed the empty box “I’m pretty sure we told you two not to eat these cookies...” You took a falsely angry tone and turned to the two guilty kids.
“We’re sorry.” They said together, eyes looking down.
“So you’re even now, right? You’ll both be punished for not listening to us anyways...” You suppressed a yawn and tried hiding your smile when you saw their serious faces.
“We won’t do it again. I won’t touch her dolls again! I swear, mom!” You son sniffed loudly.
You hushed him. “No excuses. It’s barely 6a.m. Go back to sleep and we’ll see how we will punish you.” You lifted a hand toward the two beds and they ran to their own, hiding behind the covers.
You heard them whisper some it’s your fault! and rolled your eyes at them before stretching and going back to your room.
What a day to be off work.
You slid in the bedding and instantly found the heat of another body, barely dressed and pressing against you in a needy manner.
“Bickering again?” Mark’s morning voice sent a shiver down your spine as you nuzzled his chest, humming lowly.
“We have to punish them.” You announced and Mark whined.
“Again? I don’t even know how to punish them anymore...” He wrapped his arms around you and you felt his arm under your tank top, lifting it to caress the skin of your side.
“Let’s sleep for now.” You did the same, hand brushing against his abs.
You felt the muscles contract under your fingers. “If you want to sleep you should stop doing this...”
You found yourself feeling cheeky, this morning. “Oh really, why?” your hand followed the path to his navel to his boxer’s waistband.
He hissed and caught it “I mean it, Y/N.” he let out a throaty groan.
“I wanted to tease you,” You admitted “But now I’m feeling horny.” Your hand pulled on his boxers and he lost all sanity, arms going up to grab you as he almost tore your clothes away.
He went straight for your lips to kiss you. “Babe...” You pulled the underwear a bit more, hand squeezing his butt.
Mark yelped. “Oh you...What am I going to do with you...” you felt his hand between your legs and kissed him again to muffle the noises.
He was so warm and soft. You could never get enough of his gentle touches and loving words. His hand travelled up and lifted your tank-top totally, and you were about to straddle him while he-
“MOOOOOOOOOMMMM!! NICOLE KICKED ME!”
You released Mark’s mouth as your head fell down on his chest.
He simply laughed. “I’ll go.” He kissed you again and jumped out of bed, throwing a robe over his body. “Consider them punished until they turn 25.” He said before closing the door behind him and you laughed loudly.
You loved your family.
