But then you walked through the door
Had my ego soaring
I couldn't ignore how you making me feel
Now I'm leaving with you
Tell me, am I dreaming?
You give me a reason to roll out of bed
There's only one out of a million
Only one
Oh, am I the one?
Oh, I've been in the zone ever since you showed up
Only one
You know you're the one out of a million

When Mark entered the apartment, a quiet yet tired sigh escaped his lips.
It had been a pretty long day at work, in fact, it had been one of those days in which he would have preferred to stay at home, hidden in his bed with his laptop and Netflix, binge watching a bunch of shows and movies with you or by himself. Unfortunately, his boss had called pretty early to ask if he could take his sick mate’s shift and since he needed the money to pay rent Mark forced himself to accept the offer and abandon the warm comfort of the home you both shared.
His mood slightly changed when he dropped his keys on the table and his bag on the floor. Mark looked up to find you sitting down on your couch, bundled up with some blankets and a bunch of pillows. The corners of his lips were pulled up by a small smile that quickly vanished as soon as he looked closely at you, he felt like his heart was squeezed when he noticed the dark bags under your eyes and the way you were tearing up as you watched whichever sappy romance film you had chosen this time.
It had been almost two weeks since your boyfriend had broken up with you and the fact that you seemed to be struggling to get over such an idiot was starting to worry Mark. At first he had stayed away, giving you the space and time you needed to clear your head but now he couldn’t keep himself away from you, the feelings he had kept hidden were fighting to come up to the surface and even though Mark had managed to not confess yet, he had found himself hugging you too often, randomly holding your hand or turning the simple gesture of making you laugh into a task.
Finally acknowledging his presence, you turned your head away from the television to look at him. A smile instantly came up to your lips.
Saying you weren’t happy when Mark was around would be a huge lie but it was true that you felt slightly conflicted. You were barely starting to get over your ex boyfriend and that had made you realize some confusing feelings you had been keeping in the back of your heart for a really really long time, in fact, you were starting to think your relationship had been ruined partly because your ex boyfriend was an absolute idiot but also partly because you had been unconsciously paying attention to a certain somebody that lived with you.
Always referring to your feelings as a childish crush didn’t make you realize how strongly you had fallen for Mark through the years you’ve been living with him. The first sign was the way your heart stuttered whenever he flashed you one of those cute yet bright smiles, then it came the way you couldn’t control your blushing around him and finally the soft arousal that he made you feel whenever he walked around shirtless or with really tight clothes.
Now you were single but the timing was extremely wrong. You knew Mark well enough to know he wouldn’t cheat on you like your ex, that he was extremely sweet and gentle and that he would treat you incredibly well but you were scared of getting into another relationship that would end up in a disaster again, a relationship that would break both of your hearts apart from the beautiful friendship the two of you had created living together but if you were honest with yourself, you would be lying if you said you wouldn’t risk it all to be happy besides Mark.
You would definitely take the risk if it was for him.
“Hey Mork” Hearing you say that silly nickname you had came up with a few weeks ago made the male’s smile even bigger as he approached the couch to sit down besides you “I cooked some dinner for you too, I left it in the microwave”
“Oh?” He looked delighted with your actions, almost as if he hadn’t expected you to cook dinner for him too. Since your relationship ended, you had stopped doing stuff you used to like so knowing you’ve cooked meant you were somehow making progress with your feelings “You didn’t burn the kitchen, did you?” He asked teasingly, nudging you gently.
You smiled shaking your head “Of course I didn’t, I cooked the best fried chicken ever though”
“Fried chicken?” Mark’s eyes glinted excited, you knew that was one of his favorite foods and you have cooked it with the intentions of apologizing for being a moping yet crying mess around him every single day recently “Fuck (Y/N), have I ever told you how much I love you?”
Those words weren’t weird between the two of you, you both thought the other said it referring to the friendship you had but little did you know that Mark loved you in a whole different way just like you kind of loved him as more than a friend too.
“Just when I cook fried chicken” You replied smiling, leaning back against the couch as he stood up to get his dinner.
You tried to focus on the movie you had been watching before he came back but now that Mark was around, all that you wanted to do was talk with him. The sound of his voice and the sight of his smile always soothed your nerves. Mark had turned into a drug you were addicted to, one that managed to make you smile even in your worst days.
When he returned to the couch, he sat much closer to you with his thigh against yours. You were a bit surprised with the sudden contact at first, but then relaxed as soon as you noticed he only wanted you to share your blankets with him. You tried to ignore him, tried not to look too worried or nervous when he ate the first piece of fried chicken, it had been so long since last time you cooked something for him that you were kind of afraid he wouldn’t enjoy your cooking as he used to anymore. However, when he moaned, throwing his head back with his eyes closed, you realized Mark still loved your fried chicken as much as before.
“That good, huh?” You asked chuckling, ignoring the movie once again to focus on him.
Mark opened one of his eyes to look at you, swallowing the food in his mouth before chuckling “I would eat this everyday of my life and never get tired of it”
“We can’t eat fried chicken every single day, we would get so fat” You mumbled resting your head back against the couch like he was doing, the both of you focusing on each other, completely ignoring the film
“Oh man” Mark leaned in closer, a smirk on his face “You would look so cute with chubby cheeks!” He started pinching your cheeks, laughing softly as you blushed furiously “Like reaaally cute!” He insisted, loving the way your whole face was turning red thanks to him.
“Mark” You groaned, embarrassed, trying to move away from him.
“What?” He asked, still very close to you as he watched you carefully, as if he was trying to retain every single detail of your features in his mind. “I was only saying the truth! You are pretty but you would be really pretty with chubby rosy cheeks” A soft yet shy chuckle escaped your lips, you found the way he insisted really cute and his innocent compliments kept making you feel all shy and giggly “I missed that sound, you should laugh more often (Y/N)”
The atmosphere around you changed, not for the worse but it became slightly tense for some reason. Mark and you weren’t giggling or laughing anymore but you still were watching each other intensely, paying attention to every detail, every change and every feeling that went across both of your faces. Realizing he might have said something that probably made you upset, Mark sighed softly and reached forward to hold your hand under the bunch of blankets that were covering the both of you.
“I’m sorry, it’s just seeing you so sad because of an idiot kills me” He confessed, his thumb tracing small circles on the palm of your hand “You deserve somebody that makes you smile, that makes you laugh and blush, that spoils you with compliments and affection whenever he has the chance to” Mark smiled looking into your eyes “You deserve the whole world (Y/N)”
“I’m sorry” You apologized, looking down at the blankets when you saw Mark frowning confused “The only thing I’ve been doing these past few days is crying and that must have been annoying and de-”
Mark gently pushed your chin up so your eyes would meet his once again, he shook his head, the look in his eyes being more serious and passionate than before “Don’t” He cut you off, not letting you finish your sentence “You never are and never will be annoying to me (Y/N)” Mark’s free hand came up to cup your cheek, caressing it gently “I will always be here for whatever you need me to, no matter what it is”
“I do not deserve you” You whispered, the words getting out of your lips before you could stop them
Mark smiled shaking his head “It is me the one that doesn’t deserve somebody as beautiful and sweet as you” Before he could stop himself, Mark leaned closer resting his forehead against yours “But I want to make you happy (Y/N), I want to be the reason you smile or blush, I want to be the one you think about before going to sleep or your first thought in the mornings” He sighed, his heart pounding against his chest as he confessed “Because god knows how much I like you and how much i’m willing to fight for you”
“You already are” You admitted quietly, staring into his eyes “It has always been you but I thought...I just didn’t know-”
“Come here already”
Mark’s hand, that was now on the back part of your head, pulled you closer finally ending with the distance that was between the two of you. Your lips met and even when at first it felt like an awkward first kiss, it soon turned into something sickeningly sweet and adorable, a quiet demonstration of both of your feelings. It was one of those moments in which words weren’t needed because the kiss was proof enough of your love.
