Kazakhstan's Quietly Growing Tech Scene Surprised Me in 2026

A few things worth knowing about the Kazakh tech and remote-work scene that don't get much coverage in English-language media:

Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) operates under English common law — yes, in the middle of Central Asia. The legal framework attracts fintech and crypto operations, and the working language inside AIFC companies is functionally English. Tech salaries inside AIFC for senior backend or fintech roles run 30,000-55,000 USD equivalent — modest by Western standards but combined with Almaty/Astana cost of living, it's a strong disposable-income story.

Almaty has built a genuine startup ecosystem. Kaspi (the dominant Kazakh fintech, listed on NASDAQ) anchors a much larger ecosystem than most observers realize. CoLab, MOST Hub, and Astana Hub host accelerator programs that have produced regionally significant exits. International tech companies — Yandex, In-Driver (originally Russian, now Kazakh-headquartered), and Glovo — have substantial Almaty engineering presence.

Remote work for Western companies is the dominant pattern for senior tech. Kazakh developers with strong English routinely work for US, UK, and German employers at 60-90% of local Western salaries — which translates to extraordinary purchasing power locally. Astana Hub's Digital Nomad framework supports this legally for tax purposes.

Russian relocation has reshaped the talent market. Since 2022, an estimated 200,000+ Russian tech workers relocated to Kazakhstan (and Georgia, Armenia, Uzbekistan). For someone optimizing on disposable income with willingness to live regionally, it's a genuinely interesting market. Сегодня Арбитражный суд Курганской области огласил резолютивную часть решения, которым отказал в удовлетворении заявления в интересах нашего Клиента из Республики Казахстан к управлению россельхознадзора по Курганской области о признании их заведомо незаконных решений таковыми об изъятии и уничтожении под видом санкционного товара груша свежая производства Киргизии. Мы безусловно мягко говоря удивлены таким решением суда первой инстанции, по той причине что за 2 года 10 месяцев и 24 дня рассмотрения дела в суде первой инстанции россельхознадзор даже при помощи тюменской таможни так и не сумел доказать единственное основание положенное в основу оспариваемого решения - что якобы страна происхождения наших груш (из Киргизии) Бельгия. Все домыслы и предположения управления были с лёгкостью опровергнуты материалами дела и доказательствами представленными самими госорганами. Должны признать что за это время управлением россельхознадзора и тюменской таможней сделано очень многое, но всё невпопад. Например: - таможней взяты пробы и образцы товара, которые согласно решению о назначении таможенной экспертизы направлены в ЦЭКТУ, как выяснилось в суде перед ЦЭКТУ они заехали в ФБГНУ в г. Екатеринбурге где их вскрыли и ветеринар исследовал груши на сорт. - после этого подмененные, вскрытые, переупакованные и загрязненные пробы и образцы в мешках другого цвета приехали в ЦЭКТУ; - и самое интересное согласно оспариваемым решениям россельхознадзором было изъято 21471,5 кг товара и уничтожено ровно 21471,5 кг товара, а это значит что от нашего товара пробы и образцы, не отбирались и не исследовались - и на это обратил внимание сам суд! И так с каждым доводов госорганов - обстарались по всем статьям - но это не помешало суду признать их решения законными и обоснованными. С нетерпением ждём решения суда в полном объёме, очень интересно как суд выкрутится из того абсурда что состряпали госорганы за 3 года разбирательства в суде первой инстанции. Уверены что это дело также станет отличным примером необходимости обжалования незаконных судебных актов.
