am watching the Air Disaster episode on Ansett New Zealand Flight 703. it was a crash that happened in 95 near the Tararua Ranges that killed 4 people (1 crew 3 passengers) and injured 16 out of the 17 survivors.

we haven't had many commercial plane crashes due to our national airline being so small, which is why its so strange that i only learned about this one recently. i guess when it comes to plane crashes here theres only one thing that comes to your mind, and that's Erebus.

i'm glad that Air Disaster dedicated an episode to this crash. its normally very respectful in its depictions of crashes. its taking the time to track down the passengers and talk to them and the recreations are always pretty good quality.

i remember when they did an episode on the fatal crash of one of Niki Lauda's airline's commercial planes and they made sure to interview him and talk about his fight against Boeing to reveal their culpability in the crash (the plane model had a fatal issue. they knew this. they let it go unchecked. and thats what caused the crash. it killed over 300 people)

Reports are coming in of a midair collision over Reagan national airport in Washington DC between a D60 Pavehawk military helicopter and an American Airlines flight inbound from wichita. Both aircraft have crashed into the Potomac river. It is being said that the American flight was carrying 64 passengers and crew, and that the D60 was carrying 3 service members. As of now, all are believed deceased. This is just days after Donald trump fired the heads of staff at TSA, and disbanded the Aviation Security Advisory Committee, or ASAC. It is because of the defunding of critical government services like this by trump that more accidents like this will continue to happen. My heart is with the families of all who are likely dead, and I am both mournful and fascinated to see what the subsequent investigation reveals.

On December 16, 1960, a United Air Lines Douglas DC-8 bound for Idlewild Airport (now John F. Kennedy International Airport) in New York City collided in midair with a TWA Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation descending toward LaGuardia Airport. The Constellation crashed on Miller Field in Staten Island and the DC-8 in Park Slope, Brooklyn, killing all 128 aboard the two aircraft and six people on the ground. The accident was the world's deadliest aviation disaster at the time, and remains the deadliest accident in the history of United Air Lines.
