hey, can you possibly explain to me why the antis are going after neil kaplan ??

Okay, so this actually stems from really old discourse? It was sometime either earlier this year or late last year when Neil Kaplan got into an argument with VLD fan on twitter. The fan was demanding that we get visual proof or confirmation of the paladins’ sexualities/orientation, as though THAT was what made them who they were & not their personalities & history.

Kaplan told them off for that, saying that demanding visual proof of identities & forcibly categorizing people was something that Nazis did back in WWII. He literally compared it to the yellow star & implied that it was stupid for the fandom to base so much characterization & fanon JUST on a singular identity, which was very limiting & extremely stereotypical (& still is!)

Of course, the fan was TOO STUPID to realize that Kaplan is a Jewish* surname & started getting really nasty at him, saying that he had no right to say that & clearly didn’t understand what it was like to be oppressed.

Kaplan was like “kay whatever” &, as you can see, to this day, antis STILL will not let that go.

They’re going after him because THEY stirred up old discourse & because he will not interrogate AJ Locasio for confirmation on whether or not Lotor is gay.

Kaplan doesn’t give a fuck; he’s probably telling Josh Keaton & Bex TK all this stuff right now.

*This makes all the “well only Cubans/Japanese/Samoans should voice Lance/Shiro/Hunk!” wank from antis even stupider because these same people insist that Voice Actors are their characters, (ie: Korean Keith headcanons because Steven Yeun is Korean), while ignoring everything the VAs say.

Also bonus points for being extra offensive: insisting that VAs ARE their characters & insisting that Galra are all Nazis (or Nazi-coded) even though Kaplan is JEWISH.
