Perugia (Umbria). Piazzetta of the Synagogue. Ghetto. The district, just above the Etruscan Arch, once housed the ghetto of the Jews and their Synagogue of the fourteenth century. There are few traces of this presence. In its place there is now Palazzo Brutti, which houses the Superintendence for Cultural Heritage. The presence of Jews in Perugia (usurers expelled soon) is documented as early as 1262. Just to counteract the usury was born in 1462 the pawnshop. Aside from usury, the Jewish community was hardly tolerated and discriminated against, was expelled several times.
