hehe I had an idea
with Finn’s Toon of the Week last week, I decided to do something special to celebrate it!! (no this isn’t the special thing I mentioned in my last post lol)
I REMADE BASSERKER’S REFERENCE!!! Huge shoutout to coinholder for his redesign hehe
and we also developed him a bit more! Info below the cut, here we go ✨
Reasoning/backstory:
okay so, as we learned from the new lore video, Finn loves telling facts about marine life just as much as he loves making puns about them
recently, in the AU cartoon universe, Finn starts to worry a little about how much his peers really enjoy hearing his fishy facts. So, Finn feels like he needs to start telling more jokes just to keep others interested. Sometimes he feels like only a few people enjoy hearing about sea life, including Dyle, and even then, Dyle is an incredibly busy Toon who Finn barely sees
This all was only the beginning and background to Finn’s akumatization
One day, Finn realizes that his precious toy fish, Barnaby Wilikers, goes missing
The fishbowl searches everywhere, asking his friends, going to his favorite places, and even putting up posters for Barnaby. Alas, the toy fish is nowhere to be found
Little did he know though, Shrimpo stole Barnaby as a prank while Finn was taking a nap near his favorite fishing site. Stupidly, Shrimpo didn’t fess up when Finn asked, wanting to continue his mischief
As always though, Shrimpo’s pranks and acts of rage always catches up to him in the end …
Finn gives up his search for Barnaby and tries to go fishing to clear his mind. Nothing’s biting, so it doesn’t help much. While he’s having his little monologue about his conflicting feelings to himself, lamenting about his mild fun fact insecurity and loss of his best fish pal, Allureium strikes, of course.
He convinced the fishbowl that nobody actually wanted to hear him educate them, if at all, especially now that Barnaby, the only one that always stayed with him, was gone. And to make everybody listen to his fun facts out of fear, and to find Barnaby in the process, Finn would need some powers, and to get a certain hero’s earrings …
Powers:
Finn goes from a joyful, jokester fishbowl to an incredibly bitter land shark. Basserker (haha like. bass and berserk. me last year was a genius /silly) isn’t extremely evil, but he definitely let the idea of nobody really caring what he has to say run wild in his mind
Basserker’s main power is a summoning type of power. He still makes tons of puns, not to make others laugh, but more for his own benefit
If he makes a pun for a specific sea animal, he can summon said animal to attack his victims. Sharks, electric eels, you name it, he can summon if there’s the perfect pun for it
As much as he still makes puns, Basserker is much more insistent on making sure others pay attention to his marine facts. He even likes to tell them while his victims are being attacked by the animals he summons <3
Speaking of sharks, Basserker also has a tracking power to hunt other Toons down, thanks to Bruce, the shark inside his head (full design is at the end of the post)
Bruce, who’s basically Barnaby’s replacement to fill the void in Basserker, has a great sense of smell
Basserker uses him to track Barnaby, and other toons down. Usually, Basserker likes to target a particular person, following and hunting them relentlessly until the right moment to strike
Bruce has a cue whenever he’s sniffing out for things, he dives all the way into Basserker’s head (how he fits is beyond me /silly)
The fish at the end of his fishing hook is also a little helpful for fishing for other toons as well hehe
I. unfortunately also haven’t thought of much for his defeat specifically, so let’s move onto the fluff hehe
Aftermath/Side Effects:
I don’t imagine Finn’s akuma-nap being too long, I think it would be cute if he was defeated on the beach so he can take a nap there on a lounge chair or something :3
Obviously, when Finn awakened, he felt terrible for what happened. Although, once he admitted to his closest friends about how he felt, they swore to hear him out on his fun fishy facts more often. Both entertainment and education can be fun, after all!
And the best part? Since I’d imagine Basserker’s episode was before HATRED’s, Shrimpo was stepping closer to his semi-redemption arc, so he gave Barnaby back to Finn and admitted his prank! In a very screechy, yelling way, but a way nonetheless. The shrimp even reluctantly promised to never take Barnaby ever again, especially with how … nervous Basserker made him
Finn also didn’t receive any terrible side effects, although, his main side effect is that he got to keep Bruce! Bruce isn’t a full-sized shark though, he’s now a little wind-up toy shark, much like Barnaby
Unlike Barnaby though, he isn’t very passive and doesn’t like staying in Finn’s head
he’s a lot like Twisted Barnaby, actually. He loves jumping out to bite other toons, and even likes fighting and nibbling at Barnaby when he is inside. He’s like. Barnaby’s weird bitey roommate
Extra Trivia!!!!!:
Basserker’s diver goggles change shape with his expression, the middle shifts down when angry, shifts up when sad, etc etc (kinda like how. Sonic’s eyes are if you know what I mean)
since I like to think Barnaby might be more alive than we think, he was pretty hard for Shrimpo to handle. He flopped around like a slippery bar of soap and everything /silly

I’d lowkey love to redo more older references for my AU!!! Although I. still have ones I haven’t done yet at all, so I might wanna do more of those first lol
