it's crazy how Alex Sinclair is such a mediocre colorist that he instantly drags down any artist whose lines he colors to the level of generic slop. Take Jim Lee, his most common collaborator.

There's so much depth and texture to Lee's lineart in these pieces, subtle artistic flourishes that establish mood and tone. These are fantastic pieces drafted by a genuine master of the craft. Now let's see how they look with Alex Sinclair's colors.

Eugh. You see what I mean, right? Sinclair's colors wash out so much of the mood and tone established in Lee's pencils, flattening the works and stripping them of much of their depth. The color palette employed by Sinclair is generic and amateurish, making the art feel pedestrian and ordinary, and the effects, like that genuinely embarrassing rain and lightning on the Absolute Batman cover, are incredibly outdated. It is not 2004 anymore.

Another example. Here's Greg Capullo colored by a competent colorist, his longtime collaborator FCO Plascencia:

See the difference?

Every part of the comic creation process is important, and every person involved contributes something important, whether it's the writer, penciler, inker, letterer, editor, or colorist. A good colorist can elevate a work to sublime heights, while a poor colorist can easily drag even an incredible penciler's work down into mediocrity.
