Ikasan Birthday Live 2018

I went to Ikasan’s birthday live!! Guests were Alfakyun and Shoose~

The moment she walked on stage, I heard the girls behind me going “yabai.....” And they were very justified.... She was dressed in a super fancy outfit and looked so cute!!! The sleeves were very loose and frilly and her hair was done so stylishly! she looked like a prince~ during an mc portion she’s like, isn’t this outfit very much a birthday outfit?

She sang Tokyo Teddy Bear and Liar Dance and afterwards talked about how they’re very important songs to her..... She said Tokyo Teddy Bear was one of the songs she though was super fun to sing! It was also the first of her uploads to really get some traction. At one point she got the girls and guys to cheer separately and was shocked at how energetic the guys were... she said she was gonna make a big deal out of getting them to yell but they did it on their own right away hahaha

She had an anisong portion where she sang the OP? for psycho pass and a few others. Then, she performed a song for her character in one of the stage productions she’s participated in!! She walked off the stage in the middle of the song and it was time for the band members to shine!! When the song was over, they set up a piano in the front and she played and sang Calc.... It was super nice! She said that it was super difficult to play but she absolutely wanted to play it.

When introducing the band members, she had something funny to say about all of them! she said something about the first guitarist’s smile and everyone went whoo~~~~ The drummer was being very flashy but missed catching his drumstick and she was like IT FINALLY HAPPENED YESSSSS. She also introduced the engineer (?), who used that bot everyone uses in namahousou to read comments to talk to us. She asked if there was anyone in the audience that didn’t know this voice and some people actually raised their hands 0:

Then, it was time for the guests to come on!! She sang kimi iroiro utsuri with alfakyun and they flirted a lot to lots of screaming~ every time they passed by each other while walking to the other end of the stage they’d exchange Looks.... Then at the very end, ikasan said it was special today so she told alfakyun I LOVE YOU!!! and alfakyun looked like a deer in headlights LMAO.....  they went right into MC so she spent most of it hyperventilating and making weird squeezing gestures with her hands LMAO IT WAS SUPER FUNNY.... she’s so energetic!! They talked about how while ikasan was brushing her teeth she wanted to see inside her mouth... or... something....... Sha also talked about her makeup and said that while it makes her look really cool while singing cool songs, but when she smiles it’s scary? Ikasan faces her (away from me) and I guess she smiles because alfakyun tells her to stop that and to never do it again so she’s the only person that gets to see it LOL

They sounded sooo good....... Then as the song ended alfakyun left the stage AND...... IFUU DOUDOU STARTED UP..... MORE SCREAMING and shoose enters the stage!!! they also exchange looks every time they pass each other.... and stood back to back for part of the song!! People really screamed a lot LOL it was a lot of fun..... Then they had a little time to talk and shoose wished her a happy birthday!! He got us to say it too but looked sooo unsure while doing it and even called himself out on it LOL cute..... ikasan said she took a selfie with shoose backstage but he was still in the middle of makeup so he had like a dollop of pink on his forehead?? They then sang roki and actually took selfies during that part of the song, very impressive.

She does a few more songs solo (haikei doppleganger!!) and for the last song of the encore she sang Tell Your World! I was wondering when it was gonna come up hahaha.

Finally, she and the band take a bow, and shoose and alfakyun come out with a cake and present!! The present was a surprise for her of messages written by the attendees for both osaka and tokyo performances! I think they said she already saw it backstage though LOL but that’s fine.... alfakyun handed it to her and she said she’d go through the messages carefully when she gets home~ Shoose was holding the cake so he didn’t have the mic, but alfakyun held it to him enough for him to tell her to open the present up in a very onee way :’) They take a picture and the two guests attempt to make a heart around her with their arms (it doesn’t work so well), and then it’s the end!!

except the screen flashes after she finally leaves the stage and it says she’s releasing an album next year, yayyyy!!!

I really enjoyed how she talked about each song on the setlist and how they were very important to her... I could feel her love and care..... It was a really fun performance!! I hope to see her again sometime~

MUSIC STAGE (2018/09/29)

This was an event focused on popular J-pop songs! The participants even dressed up to suit the part of whatever they were singing and some were pretty outrageous. Hosted by Kony, the performers were Alfakyun, clear, Nero, Glutamine, koma’n, Kettaro, Gero, NORISTRY, and Mary.

Kony had released a partial setlist already so we knew Gero was going to sing Hot Limit and lo and behold, he was first up!! HE ACTUALLY WORE THE OUTFIT with skin-coloured clothes and duct tape HAHAHA it suited him REALLY WELL TBH..... He sang it perfect and did the poses and everything and the audience was going wild, it was super fun!! He really has an energy to him that’s just so infectious.

NORISTRY sang Pop Star and came out in an afro wig and even did some cute dancing!! Alfakyun sang a rockish song and was in this plaid red skirt and thigh highs........ as she walked out and took centre stage there was an audible gasp and people were whispering “kawaii....” She really was very cool and cute!! She walked out into the platform that was sticking out and everyone cheered! She also sang God Knows.... later on and so, she wore a Haruhi cosplay!! She was like, “I *really* didn’t want to wear this..................” while glowering at kony.

KETSUKOMA came out looking super lame in white T-shirts tucked tightly into their high-waisted jeans...... Wing stepped away from the piano and Koma’n took over!!! ...Except he was super dramatic and making gross noises as he played and we could not stop laughing.... They were singing a really slow ballad so they kept being dramatic and fake crying and it did not feel like a slow sad song at all.......

And now for someone else who didn’t want to wear what they ended up wearing........ Nero........... He sang Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On and ohhhh boy. He walked out in full crossdress and we all lost our shit. A super long curly blonde wig tied in a low side ponytail with a gigantic pink flower, a pink dress, and a frilly white top WE COULDN’T STOP LAUGHING but he sang the song SO WELL it was confusing on my soul??? He called for “Jack” and NORISTRY came out (in normal clothes this time) and did the Titanic pose with him on the middle platform, then was pushed away.... It was very dramatic and I can’t believe nero kept a straight face through all of that.

After all this was some nonstop normal singing!! Clear, mary, and glutamine all came out to do solos! The others came out (mostly) in normal clothes to sing some more songs as well. Nero and NORISTRY did a duet! Gero ended up MCing a lot with Kony after his second song. He talked about how that hot limit outfit took forever to put on because of the duct tape, and it was really tight and he had to sit like that for hours.... well I think it was worth it for the reaction he got LOL. They talked about how both alfakyun and nero really didn’t want to wear what they wore.... They were imitating nero just as he was about to go on stage saying he turned around suddenly saying “I don’t want to wear this after all”

Thennnn Kony said they were doing another foreign song: Beauty and the Beast!! So out comes clear in a really cool-looking suit outfit with a long jacket and.....? A FURRY LION HOOD....... And following him is Nero BACK IN THE DRESS AND WIG LOL. Again, they kept a completely straight face while singing and sounded amaazing as per their usual.

Glutamine sang his second song dressed as the singer (Nagabuchi Tsuyoshi) and kept it on for the rest of the event..... His hair was pulled back into a bandana and he had on sunglasses and a leather jacket..... He also was carrying around a guitar and harmonica (he didn’t touch the harmonica while performing, I think)

Kony finally sang at some point but I think it was a duet?? Then fakyun and mary came out in super cute outfits and sang sakuranbo!!!! A bunch of the guys came out to cheer on the sides and kettaro went HARD with the wotagei. THe other guys did some dancing too, it was great. Alfakyun kept saying, while glaring at nothing in particular, that she really did not want to wear this outfit either LOL she’s great.... It was a very light-coloured outfit and she had parts of her hair up in two glittery buns, very cute.

They then did a bunch of Johnny’s songs! Kony sang a solo here and NORISTRY came out in fakyun’s haruhi cosplay and started flirting extremely heavily with the bassist???? Kony had to drag him away to the other end of the stage, it was so wild. KETSUKOMA came out in what I’m pretty sure were the 2G uniforms?? They talked about how even though it’s the same shirt, it looks completely different on koma’n compared to Kettan hahaha. Kony asked them to guess what size his shirt was and it was 8L! They were really surprised.

Lastly, They all sang Sekai ni hitotsu dake no hana together! A very appropriate song for MUSIC STAGE.

Then, the encore!! fakyun and mary walked out (still wearing their sakuranbo outfits) complaining about a gross guy and gero stumbled behind them sadly while yelling mary’s name. They walked all the way out onto the platform and both gave him an (extremely light) slap on the cheek while calling him gross LOL. Then everyone came out and sang Memeshikute together!! It was super fun. Most people had changed out of their outfits but glutan was still in his and everyone kept laughing about it... maybe he really liked it. gero kept making everyone laugh and clear who was right beside him was really losing his shit.

It was such a crazy performance!! I didn’t know a lot of the songs too well (culture.....) but it was so fun to watch them sing in their ridiculous getups. I had so much fun!!

[my considerations in choosing these songs!]

Kakurembo by Alfakyun. (June 22, 2022)

I've spent a lot more time than usual around new music this year--the more passionate I become about music, the more I want to keep up with each month's releases and catch up with all the ones I've missed in past years--and as I do, I've come to realize that there are a lot of songs I just don't care about, that inflict upon me an all-consuming indifference, songs I need to shove into the for later bin in my brain and hope will appeal to me more in a distant future. I've gotten good at focusing my energies on something else, something other than the tracks that might inspire such deep feelings of boredom towards music as a whole--and that something else is "Kakurembo" by Alfakyun. Say what you will about this one, but it's certainly interesting. (I, for one, can't imagine believing that the music industry has gone completely stagnant when something like "Kakurembo" can still be created.) A jazzy number that isn't exactly sure how much energy it wants to have, "Kakurembo" is old-school musical theatre in the sense that it doesn't really care if you remember the chorus or dance to it in the car--rather, it's a performance piece, captivating your attention for the five minutes it has you, whether or not you come back to it later.

Let it be said, though, that I've come back to "Kakurembo" more times than I can count. Maybe it's the piano--I do have a special place in my heart for the piano, my instrument of choice back when I seriously pursued music-making. Maybe it's that I feel a track with these melodies should be elegant, while "Kakurembo" is fascinatingly gritty, a bit like watching a band slowly pull together a piece that will one day be sheer perfection, struggling, for the time being, to keep a steady tempo while the conductor shouts corrections mid-song. Maybe it's Alfakyun's performance, which is sometimes wonderfully soft but often shows hints of her forceful belt, the one that makes her so successful as a rock vocalist--the dynamic shifts carry us smoothly through the song's distinct sections. I lean towards the latter, because I don't believe that the subtle ways "Kakurembo" builds tension from start to finish could work with many other vocalists, certaintly not ones unwilling to experiment like Alfakyun does. I don't think the experimentation works everywhere on this album, but "Kakurembo" more than makes up for other, more questionable choices with its inventive but unified final product.

I don't think either of them look not-photoshopped, but anyway... I tried making them look like the opposite gender because I thought of something my cousin said once and then had a stupid idea.

So... umm... yeah...

This is the kind of stuff I'll end up doing when bored.
