Have you ever read Unexpected by ChemicalOrgasm on AO3? It's SO GOOD like maybe my favorite Spirk fic ever. The plot is that instead of staying on the Enterprise Jim finds out about his son David and makes the decision to come back to Iowa to raise him (but doesn't tell anyone that's why he's resigning). Spock is left to captain the ship and he decides to go find out why Jim left. It's an older fic but amazing!

i havent!! but i really want to now, you’ve talked it up so well. i’m putting that to the tippy top of my reading list. thanks for the recommendation! :D

Gabriella is just content sitting in his lap while reading. Soft hums left her as she turned the page. "You know we're supposed to read this for class, Jack. I haven't seen you pick up your copy at all and if you don't I'm not helping you."

Idly, the Phoenix’s fingers are combing through blonde as her wings relaxed, but he’d only caught the middle of her sentence. 

— ‘ Hm? ‘ a faint hum, brow furrowing. He waited for her to repeat herself, expression solemn, before forcing a smile onto his face and rubbing at the back of his head. Back to burying all the concerns, all the worries, focusing on the moment with the girl in front of him…it only ever paid to live in the moment. After a small sigh, a forced chuckle, he nodded. ‘ Yeah, sorry. Just…got distracted there, for a second. Or a minute. ‘ he snorted, leaning his chin on her shoulder and scanning across the page of her book while she read.
