i got this comment on chapter 4 of all along (my bigender george fic) and the answer was too long for ao3 so i had to bring it here to discuss!!!

first off: i dont usually ever write pregnancy in my fics (or otherwise) because i'm personally not the biggest fan of the trope, BUT your comment (and the fact that max has been emanating dilf energy lately) really got me thinking of how that could look, so lets consider here!!!

at first i considered the possibility of what if george actually can get pregnant, how would that look like?

considering that, in this verse, george does change their whole anatomy every time she/he switches, the internal organs would behave similarly. so: girl george has uterus, therefore can she get pregnant?

lets say she can! so what happens if george switches while pregnant?

now this is where it gets tricky, because considering the whole anatomy changes, switching would basically just make the fetus... disappear? or maybe be crushed? this feels both painful and cruel, which also means that it would maybe serve for some good angsty fanfic shit....

BUT there's also the possibility that george doesn't switch the entire pregnancy. so does that mean george can realistically have kids?

if, and only IF, george gets pregnant, doesn't switch for an entire 9 months, not even involuntarily... yes. george can, theoretically, have kids.

so, can george get pregnant?

yeah. well...

not really. but not because of anything that you think! because of george's superhuman-ness, and her/him being a shapeshifter of sorts, their dna is actually ever changing constantly. which is why her/his skin may feel odd to the touch, which is why is why george has never actually had a period, which is why george's infertile - not only as a girl, but as both!!!

george is physically unable to have any kids of his/her own in any eay shape or form :')

basically, his/her body can't actually produce healthy sperms or eggs because the body they live on has hormones for two entire people and is a constant mess of fighting blood cells.

so, yeah. poor georgie.

and to answer the last part, this is not entirely uninportant to the story either!

it is true that i never intended, in fact, to write a pregnancy in this verse. BUT george being infertile is actually relevant to this whole ordeal, especially because of one thing:

george's validation within herself of her womanhood and manhood (and personhood). which is, really, just yet another way that having powers has shaped george's life.

george is never entirely anything – only ever living in halfs.

and that's his whole journey in this story: understanding that having two halfs does actually make a whole!
