Reading DTBPF: Chapter 91

For those who don't know, I am reading The Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Pet Fish for the first time and sharing my thoughts!

If you have not read it, there will be spoilers! Consider this a warning.

I’m in search of a Twilight fanfiction I read years ago and I’d like to reread it. I remember a lot about it so I’m going to list the things and hope someone can help. I’ve been in a familial fanfic mood lately.

- They were all human

- Carlisle and Esme centric

- They adopt all of the kids but Edward and Emmett and they are literal children

- Esme had Emmett from her first marriage where she was abused

- She and Carlisle were friends for a long time

- Eleazar and Carmen are like Carlisle’s parents and the kids grandparents

- Eleazar was a preacher

- Rosalie and Jasper were toddlers who had been abused and Esme and Carlisle adopted them

- Peter was also a doctor and Charlotte was a nurse. Both were best friends to Carlisle and Esme

- Did have some Bible verses in the story

That’s all I can remember at the moment but I’ll add more if I think of it. If anyone can think of this story and let me know or link it, I’d be forever grateful!

I should feel shame about writing a story put in a setting I’ve never lived, but… Sorry I’m not sorry.

So. The Middle Earth but the UK. The Second Age but the 80-90’s of 20th century. Elrond/Celebrian.

In this alternate universe, Elrond Peredhel’s name would be something like Edwin Halfstrain. Because why not?

He has curly dark hair, early grayed, and a quiet, calm voice. His brother’s name was Elton, and he was a test pilot died one night on Christmas eve.

Edwin has an absolute ear and played the violin until he gave up music to devote himself entirely to medicine. He is a surgeon at a hospital in Bath, Somerset. He inherited the house there from his uncle Eric. While he was studying at Oxford, he rented out the whole house, and after returning to Bath, the room.

One day, Madame Hélène Nevrin (a lady from Titian’s paintings) who was his mentor in residency, asks to help her daughter settle in a new place.

Hélène herself has an Irish mother and a French father.

Her older brother, Frédéric, live with his wife in Switzerland.

In her youth, Madame Nevrin participated in several IRA operations. During this time she met the historian and antropologist Brian Kelly. He convinced her that the fight for Irish independence should be fought with knowledge, not with weapons, and changed her mind about the war.

They both move to England when Brian gets a professorship at Oxford University. (they jokely call it Irish intervention)

Two Irish nationalists has named their daughter Rhiannòn. She has blond hair like her father, which she pulls back in a low ponytail, and a perky look.

Her passion is architecture (oops, this reminds me of someone) and Gaelic. She’s gifted for languages. Her favorite song is “Óró, sé do bheatha ‘bhaile”, and she will never admit to her mom that she listens to Queen. (but Hélène does the same thing)

Edwin likes her immediately, and proposes her to rent a room in his house for a symbolic price. She accepts.

They have troubles admitting to each other and to themselves that they are in love, but once confessed, after several years of friendship and living side by side, their romance develops incredibly fast.

Sometimes, Rhiannòn teases Edwin by saying things like “your gloomy English face” and “your aristocratic English hands”, even though he is two-thirds Scottish and Irish. He doesn’t take offense, because his hands are really well-kept and manicured, and it was never so important to him to be English or not. He always responds: “Tá mé i ngrá leat freisin”.

He has tried to learn Gaelic several times but those attempts were not very succesfull, exept this sentence which means “I love you, too”.

They have named their two sons old-fashioned Edmund and Edward, because their whole family is like that, and their daughter becomes Hanna with an H which makes a reference to her grandmother’s name.

They have lived together for twenty-five years until the day when Rhiannòn and her children are returning home late night. A robber, thinking she’s alone, attacks her with a knife.

Her husband is finishing his shift at the hospital when Edmund calls him, and against the rules, Edwin insists that he will operate on his own. After the longest night of his life, he almost has a heart attack. (which is what you’d expect from a man at the turn of sixty?)

Rhiannòn losr part of her lung and she’s recovering for a long time. Because of her frequent pneumonia, her mother suggests her to go to her uncle in Switzerland, bc she believes the mountain air would be good for her.

Edwin feel guilty about that evening when he was at work instead of being with his family, and, after his wife left, fall into a depression. He sends 15-year-old Hanna to live with her grandparents in Oxford.

She fall in love early, and get married as soon as she’s twenty. (One day, she will crash with her husband on a motorcycle, leaving her three-year-old son and one-year-old daughter orphaned. Their uncles will take care of them.)

Edwin soon realizes that all what has happend to him and his family, has aged him too quickly and he’s not able to continue his surgeon practice successfully, and he leaves to teach in Zurich, where he’s finally reunited with his beloved wife.
