dear authors - a writing advice
disclaimer: i am not a doctor, everything i write is coming from my memory, so there may be mistakes. please do your research.
Also TW for needles and syringes at some point but nothing graphic and i will tell you when!
if you don´t have allergies, be glad. but since some people are truly blessed i will give some exclusive information about allergies for writing/general knowledge!
Allergies Part 1 - The Diagnose
sometimes your allergy showes because you made an allergy test, but often a certain thing triggers an unnormal reaction of your body first. if you go to the doctor (which is highly recommended), he will then make an allergy test with you. basically the doctor draws a grid on your forearm, then puts some liquid on each little square and (sorry here comes a mention of needles) stabs LIGHTLY through your skin so the liquid gets in your blood. then you´re left on your own. the only instructions you get is: wait and don´t scratch. so you wait a bit (not enough to go home but enough for a child to flip through all the books in the anteroom) and the doctor looks at the grid again. you will see that in the squares with the liquid that you are allergic to is one big, red, itching dot. the bigger the dot the worse the allergy.
Allergies Part 2 - The Body´s Reaction
the body´s reaction depends on the seriousness of the allergy but i want to cover a few.
Reactions 1.0 - light
sneezing
runny/itchy eyes/nose
itchy skin
-> annoying but not very serious.
Reactions 1.1 - medium
lightheadness
headaches
stomachaches
vomiting
feeling like shit
diarrhoea
sleeping a lot
hives/rashes (please don´t scratch even if they itch)
-> extremely annoying e. g.: no, i won´t go to school today
Reactions 1.2 - severe
breathlessness
asystole
-> very serious. search help immediatly
Reactions 1.3 - others
okay here comes reactions that aren´t physical. people may experience the feeling of anxiety, commonly when they know they´re highly allergic to something. often the anxiety is about what will happen now that they ate/came in contact with XYZ.
Allergies Part 3 - How To Prevent An Allergic Shock
in general avoid XYZ with all costs -> clean your room often, always look at the lables with the contents on food/drinks, change jobs, etc...
after your diagnose you will get an inhaler/EpiPen/antiallergenic.
(TW syringes) EpiPens are big syringes of adrenaline
depends on your knowledge of the allergy, you keep it with you (after 14 years i don´t always keep my EpiPen with me)
inhalers are big and basically you vape an antiallergenic, absolutely unpractical.
with EpiPens you stab yourself in your tigh when you are already breathless.
antiallergenics can come in various forms (e.g.: pills, liquid). you use it as the instructions say.
every 2 years you have to renew an EpiPen. if you haven´t used them, well (un)lucky for you, throw them away.
you can use inhalators as well as antiallergenics until they´re consumed.
others are probably scared of the scenario of you having a asystole or stabbing you with an EpiPen
if you don´t have your antiallergenic/EpiPen with you on a class trip, teachers will hate you.
so this is my small knowledge a friend and me have. i hope we could help you!
