Album Number Four Hundred Sixty Six. “Highway” is the fourth studio album by the English rock band #freeband . It was recorded extremely quickly in September 1970 following the band's success at the #isleofwightfestival but with an attitude of relaxation, the band having achieved worldwide success with their previous album Fire and Water (26 June 1970) and the single "#allrightnow ". It is a low-key and introspective album compared with its predecessors. My copy is on #aandmrecords - SP 4287. (One of the few albums I have with that original label) It was their last album to be recorded in a position of success and security, as its failure contributed to the emotionally insecure #paulkossoff 's growing drug addiction and the band's temporary split, from which it never truly recovered. It became the band's breakthrough album, achieving widespread commercial success as the band's first two studio albums were not successful. With the "tremendous" acclaim of #fireandwater at their backs, in the words of AllMusic, #freeband headlined the 1970 #isleofwightfestival with an estimated audience of 600,000 to 700,000 attendees and "appeared destined for superstardom". My copy is a reissue on their U.S. release label #aandmrecords - SP 3126. The album spawned the band's signature hit song "#allrightnow ", praised by publications such as AllMusic as a hard rock "smash, powered by #paulrodgers ‘ gritty, visceral vocals". The song became a top five rock hit in the group's native United Kingdom, and also did well in European countries such as Austria, France, and Germany. This song was written in 10 minutes after Free played a disappointing gig and felt they needed a big rocking anthem to close the set, with Andy Fraser and Paul Rodgers in the dressing room. This became a solid global hit for the band on #chrisblackwell ‘s #islandrecords . This was such a great British Rock band. I love how this album features #fireandwater from a live BBC Recording. You Brits are so lucky to have The ‘B’ this record is so good with #wishingwell #thestealer . I had the brilliant experience of seeing this great band support both #jeffbeck and #steviewonder .
