meta that's a summary of the extra allusions you have for him and why, and pointing out some of the specific references if you want!
((Qrow’s allusions are interesting.
Lets start with I absolutely do not like the idea that Qrow’s the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz. We’ve had the other headmasters of the school be Dorothy’s companions, and there’s one school left. Vacuo should be the Scarecrow.
The allusion to Huginn and Munnin, Odin’s birds, is one that I accept. He’s been Ozpin’s eyes and ears for forever.
One of the biggest and most concrete allusions I have for Qrow is from the Rime of the Ancient Mariner. I went nuts with this one a little early on in this blog and it still fits. Qrow even references the Ancient Mariner in his character song, calling himself an albatross.
The Albatross in Ancient Mariner is a literal bird. The captain of the ship, the titular mariner, shot the albatross on the first day of the voyage and the ship was plagued with nothing but bad luck afterwards. The crew hug the giant bird around the Mariner’s neck, and it only fell away after the Captain had done penance for his crime. But even then, he was cursed to watch all his crew die, and is now cursed to wander the sea and tell his story to any who would listen. Honestly back then I didnt have a good idea for Qrow’s career, but now I realize matching him up with Rime of the Ancient Mariner is painful in a whole other way.
The only other extra illusion that I’ve got is that Qrow (and a lot the inner circle) operates much like the Assassins do in Assassin’s Creed. For one thing, you’ve got the motto of the Creed
Nothing is true, everything is permitted
Nothing is true reflects that society is fragile and that everyone is responsible for protecting and safeguarding civilization. Everything is permitted is an awareness that we’re the ones who are architects of our own actions, and that actions have consequences that we must accept, both good and bad.
There’s also the three tenants and ironies of the Creed. Tenants:
Stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent
Never compromise the Brotherhood Oz’s group.
The Assassins seek to promote peace, but commit murder.
The Assassins seek to open the minds of men, but require obedience to rules.
The Assassins seek to reveal the danger of blind faith, yet practice it themselves.
Qrow’s struggles in the show are directly the same as the ironies in Ass Creed. He wants peace, but is willing to throw down. He is obedient (to an extent) to Oz, but hates the government of Atlas which demands obedience of its people. And Qrow has had to deal with his own blind faith of Ozpin.
I know there’s more, but I am not remembering them this morning lakjdflkasjdf.
