New ALMM rules: A boon for off-grid solar? The new ALMM rules lower efficiency thresholds for off-grid solar modules The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has released a draft amendment to the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), proposing to lower the efficiency requirements for off-grid solar applications. This includes solar lamps, solar lights, solar street lights, solar fans, and other small-scale solar applications, except solar-powered agricultural pumps and rooftop solar systems. According to the existing ALMM framework, solar PV modules must meet minimum efficiency standards to be eligible for enlistment. However, recognizing the demand for affordable off-grid solar solutions, MNRE has proposed a reduction in efficiency thresholds for modules with a capacity below 200 Watt peak (Wp)
