severance season three. gemma is free. with devon, with ricken. mark s and helly and the rest of the innies are building a revolution --- they unite the departments, block the elevator and the stairwell, take control of the security office and the override protocols. they stand together. they make their demands.
but mark scout is there --- reintegrating. fleeting, in bits and pieces, mark s. feels him, his memories looming at the side of his vision. mark s. sees his wife, his outie's wife, he sees their wedding day, he remembers dancing in their living room. he remembers choking on her ghost and drowning in whiskey. he remembers crying in the car and on the floor and maybe he remembers being drunk during a lecture and standing in high places.
but reintegration is messy. and then one day mark scout isn't just at the edges --- he's there. they've switched. and he flies into a rage. demands to know where his wife is. he kicks and screams --- he throws a fit. and helly is there. to try to reason with him. at first it's useless. but then eventually he slows. he feels the memories, too, the other side. the life that his innie built when he was throwing his own away. the life he never truly saw. and he starts weeping. and all he can ask is --- is she safe? did she get out ? and helly says yes. yes, she's safe. she's with your sister. and mark takes a deep breath and he says, okay. okay. she's safe. as long as she's safe. his innie did this for him, he gave him those precious moments with her, and he got her out safe. the least he can do is give his innie the same grace, the chance to find a way. the least he can do is trust him in the driver's seat, make him the agent, for once.
