Seamista September Prompt 12: Fire/Water
Firebender Sea Hawk and Waterbender Mermista!
Oooo what are your favorite things about Seamista and Glimbow?
Seamista: They are SUCH a fantastic example of my favorite dynamic — Goof with a heart of gold who no one expects much of falls head over heels for the seemingly aloof badass. They seem so different on the surface but underneath, something in them recognizes each other and that's so good???? Also she is not so secretly just as weird and intense as he is. It's a safe place for both of them. No matter what she does, he won't be scared off, he's not going to abandon her. Meanwhile he's free to be A Lot because they both know she'll ask him to leave if she actually wants. And I love that if she asks him to, he will go away.
For us, I do like that the show gives us just enough to imply the history and life they have offscreen, but then there's so much room for us to fill in the gaps. Their entire relationship is a noodle incident. I would absolutely love to see them on their own, but it's fun just imagining too.
Also he literally looks at her with heart eyes three separate times, WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE ABOUT THAT. I do think it's significant that it only starts happening after that episode where he was upset with her, I think that was a shift for them.
Glimbow: How much they just enjoy being around each other! And how almost inevitable they feel. It seems like there would barely be any difference between them as friends and them dating. There's no reason for them to pretend or hide anything because they've already seen every side of each other. Glimmer's apology to him in S5 made me cry, it's such a good scene. I'm sorry, you're right to be mad and you don't have to forgive me, but I'm not going anywhere. And that's what he needed to hear.
The scene I started shipping them was the one early on when Glimmer is sleeping and Bow is teasing her to try to get her to wake up. That's going to be them forever.

Mermista’s knuckles were white as she gripped her trident, furiously propelling herself through the water with her tail and speeding herself up with her hydrokinesis.
She just wanted one relaxing day. He knew that the 25th Mer-Mysteries book had just been released. She also had huge news to break to him. She had cleared both of their schedules so they could spend the day together. Why he even planned something today was beyond her comprehension—she got two copies of Mer-Mystery: Smooth Krill-minal and a bottle of his favorite wine so they could read together and she could tell him her big news, and he leaves before she wakes up. To do what? Get captured? Asshole.
