The sun peeks over the horizon and into the window as the girl stirs in the sheets, savoring the last moments of sleep and remembering her dreams.
The moon is doing the same, the sun thinks
The girl blinks as the sun reaches her face. She sits up and stretches in the soft morning rays.
What are you doing, the sun asks
The girl responds, I am rising
The sun watches as the girl moves her blankets and shuffles out of sight. The sun waits.
The girl opens her door and steps out, ten toes tucked neatly in two socks. She holds shoes in her hand. The sun watches as she sits down on the step and quietly shuffles her feet into the shoes.
The sun watches as she ties the laces.
Where are you going, the sun asks
I am as well, the sun says, I'll go with you
And the girl starts forward. The air is cool, and the night still clings to the edges. She runs, her ten toes tucked neatly in two socks shuffled into her two running shoes are placed one in front of the other.
Slowly she wakes up. Slowly, so does the sun.
The sun watches her, peering higher and higher over the horizon. It chases away the night clinging to the edges as the girl chases the miles.
You travel far, says the sun
The girl responds, so do you
The pair travel together, rising higher and higher until the girl reaches her house again. She stops. She stretches.
Are you done now, asks the sun
The girl says, no I have much more to do
So do I, says the sun, will you rise with me tomorrow
The girl smiles, I'll see you then
