Am amazingly emotional night...
Pink pretty much fills our apartment with her music. Interspersed with Mumford, Lumineers and others.
We know her anthems, we know her ballads, we just know her songs. She holds so much power, so much strength in her songs and her words. I found myself simultaneously singing and crying my way through her latest 'What about us?' tonight. It's both political and poignant a d just a great song. .
We are white and privileged. Are we as well off as we might be? No. But there are so many people down trodden and forgotten by society. We should all do more to help! I want to do more.
When Drumpf was elected. Both V and I were fired up. We wanted to do something, to help, to effect change in our local community. But, the news cycle has worn us down, he and his cronies and his despicable behavior and his attitude have worn us down. We talk about him and his hollow, unfeeling words he is among other things a fraud and a charlatan.
Pink wields so much power and emotion in her songs. They stir feelings, at least for me of women's and girls empowerment. That chance of something better for everyone. Could she do more? For sure. But if just 10% of the young women and let's face it Nebraska, any women. Left her concert feeling more empowered about themselves and there place in the world the she has done her job.
Even I, as an older white guy, felt fired up and full of energy tonight. It was an emotional roller coaster, it was uplifting, it was awesome. I wish we had had V's nieces with us rather than our somewhat shallow republican friends.
