PROFILE: Amber Amour
Amber Amour is an artist, humanitarian, and revolutionary.
Where are you from? Everywhere. I was born in Ohio and moved to Northern Virginia when I was 17, the year I started college. I transferred to the University of Paris (La Sorbonne) a year later and lived in France for five and a half years. After college, I moved to Atlanta for six months and then got rooted in NYC, where I stayed for 3 years. Ever since I left New York, I’ve lived in San Francisco, South Africa, Argentina, and San Diego.
What is your background? Professionally speaking? My degree is to teach French as a second language, but, I’ve since become a self-made consent expert.
What are your passions? Music, art, healthy living, nature, spirituality.
What got you started in activism? My mom. She took me to my first protest when I was 12.
What are your views on the current political state? I try not to think about it.
Do you think education to younger audiences about consent could be improved? Improvement? It should first exist. There is little to no consent education for today’s youth. We should start by teaching consent to children and continuing and adapting the conversation throughout their lives.
Have you run into any roadblocks with the system in America while advocating for your beliefs? I’d rather not talk about that.
What are some ways people can start to get involved with activism and being an advocate for pressing issues? Just do it! Starting anywhere with what you’ve got is always good. For me, it was chalk art about feminism and consent on the streets of NYC.
Any Upcoming Projects? Right now I’m rebranding. Getting out of activism and doing what I love: making art and music.
What is your message to the world? Healing after sexual assault is possible! You can get through it :)
