Yall I haven't been an active hetalian in almost a decade and I don't remember if Vatican has a canon design but theoretically that doesn't actually matter for this bc this is a preamble to Romerica bc I can't get over the new pope being a Chicagoan and as someone with no ties to catholicism whatsoever I think this is great for Romerica bc

A. America will use the new Pope as an excuse to visit Romano (he can't actually talk to the Pope but he claims he's just checking in from afar)

B. Romano is already easily flustered. He's v easily flustered about the fact that he's in a gay relationship with a PROTESTANT (The US has no state religion, thank all things good, but America the character was shown to have basically grown up in Massachusetts Bay, and for much of US History Protestantism has held the reins of leadership. I do think the personifications are individuals as well as amalgams, and i think America considers himself nondenominational protestant). But now??? Now his Protestant Boyfriend keeps saying he's welcome for the new Pope!!! Romano will never escape
