Game Dev log for September: Ancient Oracles
Heya everyone! I hope you all are doing well. I have decided that monthly game dev posts are going to be easier for me as I am currently going through a lot of medical testing for rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory auto immune disorders.
I am okay, however I have slowed my pace down to avoid harming myself.
so without further ado lets get this going!
Art
Art took a tiny bit of a backseat in September, I finished off the sprite expressions for the boys and for Carmen and also added a 'nude' layer under carmen's main sprite to add more outfits to both her and the other characters. This was a decision made later as I decided to add more scenes with outfit changes being required haha
Writing:
I finished up the rough /potato drafts for chapter 2. 3 and 4 of the prologue. I then edited and finished up chapter 2 and added the script for it into ren'py. I am still working out the conclusion of the prologue chapters which may extend into a 5th chapter or end in chapter 4 as I originally intended.
I will be finishing up the prologue this month and hopefully beginning work on the first chapter for Aspen's route.
Coding:
Coding took a backseat last time so I focused on it this time around quite a bit more. I've added in the title screen, the text box reskin and I've also loaded in the base sprites for Carmen and her expressions. throughout the first 2 chapters. The boys sprites are also implemented however their expression changes are still being done.
I will be continuing to update you all on the progress throughout the month but hope to have the main sprites fully implemented by the end of the month as well.
Some sketch teasers of side characters :)
Sorry for the delay on this update everyone!
let’s get right into it.
sadly development wise last month was pretty slow. I managed to hammer out a lot of writing but not much on the art or coding side of things since I was dealing with health and job related priorities.
I finished up the prologue rough draft in its entirety, I’m hammering in a few key moments that the player has with the boys before selecting a route before I go back to proof read and edit anything that’s needed! I’m very excited to be getting entirely into the heart of the story now.
I was asked a couple times about a route order, there is no set order you will need to play to understand the story though each route will be individual plot wise to an extent, with an overarching story beyond that. Each route will reveal different parts of the world and story outside of the MCS role in the setting.
I would recommend playing Jace’s route after Gabriel’s but the choice is up to you.
Art wise:
I have the concept sprites completed for Aspen’s siblings, more specifically Ash, as she plays a small role within Aspen’s route and will often be near wherever Aspen happens to be.
so that’s about all I have to offer for October sadly, November is shaping up nicely art wise so I hope to have much more to share at the end of this month.
thanks again to all of you for your continued support!
The next two prints have arrived 😍 Aspen’s pin up and Gabriel’s surfs up photo came out so nice!!!
Some small snippets lol
A small teaser for Aspen~
Classifications: Oracle’s
One of the most rare classifications of clairvoyants to date are called Oracles. These people are the original stereotype of the original Clairvoyant title.
It should come as no surprise then that Oracles are capable of predicting the future. But this comes at a price and one many aren’t willing to pay. Most Oracle’s rare as they are, are D rank at best. They have a generally good intuition and ‘gut feeling’ when things are going wrong. Rarely do these Oracle’s receive visions outside of the occasional dream.
Higher ranked Oracle’s may be rare, but one should never be too careful. These Oracles can predict the future mere moments in advance. Their eyes flash a vibrant blueish teal and often when the vision is particularly intense, they may get nose bleeds. The human brain isn’t built to withstand these ‘psychic attacks.’
Oracles of an S ranking are unpredictable, often accidentally predicting an event and then being the cause of it occurring, most of their visions revolve around tragedy so plenty of people consider Oracle’s to be a necessary tool in times of strife-while other’s think they bring bad luck.
Oracle’s have incredibly strong minds, which lend to their natural telekinetic abilities. They can also practice psychometry-reading the emotions and history attached to a person and item rather than seeing the future.
The full scope of an Oracles potential has not truly been explored-most of these high ranking members die young. Control is almost impossible to attain for all classes at S rank, Oracles have an even more difficult time of it because of the intense nature of their powers. The strongest have been known to begin forming the symbol of complete clairvoyance (the third eye) in the middle of their forehead. It is usually only seen when their visions are active. Though some horror stories from history depict women running around with another eyelid growing, so who is to say they weren’t right?
The currently last known S rank Oracle resides within the administration. Working as a professor at the local institution.
