I like to think there was an old piano in the orphanage that Mr. Benedict and Curtain lived in. It wasn’t fancy. It was old, and a little out of tune, but sometimes Nicholas and Nathaniel managed to get some music out of it. They’d sit on eithre side, and accompany each other. They both grew to have a soft spot for piano, because it was something nice they did together. After they split, Mr. B kept up with the instrument, wanting to hang on to that feeling of sitting with his brother in front of the keyboard. Curtain, however, dropped it entirely. It reminded him too much of his brother, and he was determined to forget that anything nice about Nicholas ever existed.
