WHY YALL GOTTA MAKE ANGST :(( Now I had to do my due diligence and write some emergency fluff again
Anderperry - First Date
Neil was rightfully nervous, going on a date with a boy was both unheard of and looked down upon where he was from. The moment he fell in love with Todd, all the scenarios bombarded his brain-- the ones that wracked his nerves over the feasibility of dating a guy.
When Neil had accidentally confessed without really understanding how hard it would be to properly 'date' his roommate, it was too late. He was head over heels, he was wrapped around Todd's finger, Todd could ask him to challenge God himself and Neil would find a way to aim at the sky for him. Neil had to be with Todd now.
Unfortunately, no matter how much Neil wanted to pronounce, to YAWP atop the roof tops: "TODD ANDERSON IS MY BOYFRIEND", he couldn't. Not yet. So he had to bide their first days of being partners in private. Not that there was a problem. Oh God, was it not a problem.
One day, their extravagant best friend, Charlie, provided them with a getaway trip to some hotel their family own. It had lavish amenities, a 5-star restaurant at the rooftop, and, best of all, a large population of queer folk working or visiting it. Charlie's uncle was cool at way. Charlie was cool this way too.
As soon as their duffle bags hit the floor of their cozy hotel room, Neil looked over at Todd, face blushing with excitement on their actual First Date. "Beats a Tuesday night at Welton, huh?" He chuckles at Neil. "Nothing beats the night I confessed to you, though." He hugs Todd's waist from behind.
Rather than repeating what they usually did on weekend nights at Welton, Neil and Todd actually had a beautiful first date. Both in suits Charlie lent them, Neil in a dark gray three piece suit, the vest a moss green, while Todd wore a lovely Navy pinstripe suit. Weirdly specific but they went with it.
Neil couldn't express the sanguine feeling he got when he and Todd awkwardly ordered their dinner, or didn't know how to behave in a couple's massage session, or even how to act in public. It was sweet how they got to experience an awkward first date like any straight couple would.
They weren't used to how easy it was to just be outside and be in love with each other in the open, so they savoured every little mistake. They'll have time to get used to it, of course they will.
That night, they did what they always did in their Welton room on weekendnights. Cuddling and Sweet Nothings. That among other things.

“Wait a minute. Are you jealous?” Neil asks. He sounds amused, as if nothing else in the world would bring him joy. And it makes Todd’s blood boil; he stares at his boyfriend as Neil smirks at him, with his stupid handsome face and script script in hand. Todd doesn’t like the way jealousy flares up, warm in the bottom of his gut when he thinks of Neil’s acting endeavors as of late. Henley Hall has seen more of Neil than Todd in the past week; opening night is next week and he’s hardly had time for anything outside of the play and school. So.. yeah, maybe Todd is jealous. A little. Okay, a lot. He doesn’t say anything, and when Neil realizes he’s not getting an answer, he moves closer to Todd until their knees are touching.
“You are, aren’t you? I haven’t paid much attention to you lately, have I?” He asks. Todd shakes his head no as his cheeks turn red. Neil chuckles at him and leans in for a kiss, then another, and another. Todd kisses him back with equal fervor. This is what he wanted, what he craved but was too shy to ask for. Neil is sweet and gentle when he touches Todd, his voice is soft and warm.
“I love you,” Neil whispers once they part. He flashes an adorable grin at Todd, one that makes his heart turn to mush.
“I love you, too,” Todd says back, “but could you warn me next time when you make me go a week without kisses? I was wasting away!”
Neil’s laughter is enough to make Todd forget that he was trying to be annoyed, and their eyes meet with twin fond gazes.
Neil's soundless footsteps finally made their way to Welton. He'd died not to long ago but he'd hope to have learned how to fly by now, he is a ghost after all. But he's been away from his friends for long enough to realize they weren't in Welton anymore.
How long has it been?
His soul was tied to Welton, unsurprisingly. He couldn't move on, especially for one simple fact: Todd Anderson.
There were one too many chances he' end up with Todd, so many times they've held each other, close enough to hear each other's heartbeats, close enough that you could tell what feelings lay underneath their flannel shirts.
Neil would hold him close when he was having one of those days. Days when he felt small, when he felt like a burden, days he couldn't sleep because of something that happened mere hours prior.
Todd always asked for Neil's embraces, it was anyone's bet if it was platonic or romantic. Everyone knew that Neil was the one who'd hold Todd without question. Laced with those moments were times he'd share nicknames with him. 'Toddy' he'd call him, 'Neily?' Todd replies unsurely yet playfully, saccharine moments filled with impractical word choices.
Sometimes Neil would need Todd's hugs too, to help him calm down when he had another spat with his Father, if he needed someone to keep him on Earth the same way he did for him.
Now, Neil doesn't feel the same pain- he was free from his father's choking hands after all. But he knew Todd was still out there, still probably blaming himself, still overthinking every word he has and has yet to say, still probably cold.
Neil wondered, as he sat on his empty bed, in his former dorm room:
