Still from Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.
Andy: You really have a mortal enemy?
Thomas: I have 61 of them. Would you like to see the list?
Bates: Say no, say no, say no...
Thomas: You just got off the list, would you like back on it?
Caught the 3rd Downton Abbey film at the theatre. Overall lovely, there's been character development between films, I like that. Thomas is happy, I love that. Daisy got to stand up to a stuck up old geezer, it was brilliant. I couldn't have cared less for Molesley's cringy bid at recognition, but at least he didn't cause a scene.
What I found very endearing is Andy Mr Parker as butler. Because sure, he's technically taking over for Carson. But there is a distinct sharpness to him when on duty – the way he moves, gestures, inserts himself into conversation – calculated, precise and just a touch theatrical, much different to the obstinate bulwark of Mr Carson. Sure, he's still been there at the Abbey;(even if he's finally retiring), yet it's not him that Andy's emulating as a role model, but Mr Barrow.
I'm a bit sad that we didn't get a one-on-one scene with them, I imagine it would have been a touching reunion. (But that's what AO3 is for!)
Also, we didn't get a Thomas – the children interaction, which was such a wasted oppotunity. But the film format does unfortunately have time and story limitations that series episodes do not...
Longer version of the end credits for anyone who wants it, spoiler if you haven't watched the film.
