These images capture the debasement, torment, sadness and anguish of monkeys forced to perform in Thailand as if they were nothing more than wind-up toys. These highly intelligent animals suffer from debilitating loneliness, stress and depression when they're separated from their families, and their training is horribly cruel. Asian circuses are among the worst in the world for outright abusive training methods involving fear and beatings. The monkeys' spirits are broken, and many go mad in the end, constantly circling or pacing, biting at their own limbs, pulling out their own hair, and rocking back and forth. Tourists must remember this and never pay for or attend any performances that use animals." "It's becoming less common but it's something you see quite often in Thailand, China and other Asian countries. "It's always sickening to see these animals so degraded is heartbreaking. It's bad enough seeing them forced to perform but often they have been captured from the wild and then raised in captivity. To make them perform there is often negative reinforcement and in some case the animals are drugged or they get them hooked on cigarettes as a reward for doing what they want them to do during a performance. It's a miserable life for them in captivity but there is a demand and at HSI we say to tourists, please don't be taken in and attend one of these events as you ar just becoming part of that cycle for abuse and it is a life of complete misery for these animals. If there is a victim at the end of your entertainment then it is not entertainment. In Asian countries there is a trend for performing primates and you see them in make up and dressed up. The abuse of any animal in that situation is appalling but there's something desperately sad about a primate in this situation where people are laughing and enjoying their abuse. That is something that is deeply troubling about the human psyche that people can watch these animals be abused. #EndSlavery #AnimalRights #Compassion #StayWoke #SaveTheAnimals #SaveThePlanet #SaveTheChildren #AnimalsFeelToo
