Tiny skull jewelry made from 3D scans of REAL animal skull specimens! Pendants, earrings, cufflinks, barware, and more! Available in White Bronze, Yellow Bronze, and Sterling Silver.
Something I’ve chipped away at since October. With my new day job and the stress of the holidays, I wasn’t able to do much work. This is also the first piece I created entirely using CSP.
Here are some of my personal boning tips:
Use bug spray. Also use tick spray to treat your clothing.
DO NOT go on railroad tracks. It is illegal to be on or near them. Never, never, never. There are plenty of other places to look. Bones are not worth risking you’re life for.
For me, I live in Ohio, I go boning year round except in the winter. I don’t believe there is a “best” time to go. The more you go, the more bones you’ll find. Persistence is KEY.
Same goes for antlers. I searched in the early spring because they are said to be easier to find then, with no luck. The recently, I found some without much effort. (Fun fact: Porcupines eat them!)
Go in the rain. When everything is wet it makes the white of the bone stand out much easier.
If you find a spot with multiple different kinds of animal remains or more than one sketelon, it could be a kill site. I always drop pins on my phone to mark the location because animals are very habitual. It is likely they will use same spot every time they eat.
Sometimes even if I find one random bone, I still drop a pin so I can come back and look another time. Give them easy recognizable labels and save them all under the same location as the others.
In ditches is a great place, or anywhere with sloping down areas. I find tons sliding down sides of hills or at the bottom.
Don’t look TOO hard. A lot of the time I have more luck if I’m not concentrating too much.
Bases of trees.
Areas with a lot of coverage. When animals are near death they like to lay somewhere quiet so they feel safe, so these are great places to check.
Animals often drag their prey near water sources to eat it. So check in or near creeks.
Animal scat (poo), fur, prints, and feathers, are all good signs that you are on the right track.
I love to look at beaches too.
The more you look for bones, honestly, the better you get. It’s almost like you are training your eyes.
If you’re into vulture culture, always keep a ziploc bag, gloves, and tweezers with you at all times. A garbage bag is always a good idea too 😂 I have it in my purse no matter what.
Bring someone with you. Even if you have to bribe them. I tell my boyfriend if he finds more bones than me we can go out to eat after. And a lot of the time he does.
Don’t listen to your headphones. Appreciate the sound and atmosphere of nature. It’s also a lot safer to be aware of your surroundings.
Check the laws for your area.

Found a nearly complete m.ule d.eer skeleton! It was missing one of its front legs and it’s lower jaws. I took the skull, the one scapula we could find, and a few leg bones to clean up. This will be my first ever full skull I found on my own!
i’ve completed my first skull! a rabbit skull, that i believe had been gotten by a fox, i found while exploring nearby bush land. defleshing, cleaning, degreasing, bleaching and glueing back together again. she isn’t perfect but i’ve learnt so much since starting that i’m so glad i got the chance to honour her and hope i have done her life justice :D
