Planning how to catch a criminal
I wanted to redraw a painting as a practice exercise so I chose The Bezique Game by Gustave Caillebotte and added a touch of Monster to it.

Let's just forget that he's a villain here, okay? He's just another student at the university where you study, and your close friend that you have a crush on.
The sound of raindrops tapping against the closed windows of the university library echoed through the space. It was quiet; only a few students were there—some studying, others with their noses buried in their books.
You would have described your friend the same way—his nose buried in his poetry book—were it not for the fact that you admired him. He looked cute like that... or perhaps enchanting. Both, really.
His eyes seemed slightly closed as he read silently, while you, in turn, admired him in your own thoughts.
How handsome he was... No wonder he was the heartthrob of the class—or perhaps the entire university.
Yet, when you really thought about it, his looks weren't the reason for your admiration; it was his quiet personality.
He was like a quiet autumn season.
There was always a common thread running through all his preferences.
Books late on rainy nights, the serenity of small gardens, his elegant and captivating style, walks through quiet, dark streets, his love for poetry, and the things that complemented his appearance...
But they weren't wrong about his appearance either..
"My God, his eyes are so beautiful..."
You couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of those eyes—blue as the sky—and watch the way they moved as he read, sitting in the chair across you.
...until his voice snapped you out of your thoughts.
"Did you want something?"
He didn't look up until he had finished reading the line.
Strands of his blonde hair partially obscured his eyes as they met yours, a calm smile playing across his lips.
"W-what? No.. why do you ask?"
You shifted your posture as you spoke, moving your arms—which had been resting loosely on the table between you—to lean on the wooden surface with your elbows instead.
He tilted his head slightly to the side, his smile widening just a touch..
"Oh, nothing, just thought you’d been staring at me for a while now."
"..."
You looked away for a split second, searching for an answer that might fool him—even just a little—though you knew it was nearly impossible.
"I was just.. trying to read the text in your book, haha."
A brief silence fell between you after you spoke.
His eyes remained fixed on yours, unmoving—much like the smile on his lips.
He knew. And you knew that he knew.
He let out a soft hum of silent understanding as he glanced downward at his book.
"Then why don't you sit next to me so you can see better?"
He looked back at you with the same smile.
And how can you refuse?
"Well, if you say so.."
You rose from your seat, walked around the large table to his side, and sat in the chair next to him. He, in turn, shifted the book slightly toward you—just enough for you to read it.
It was the sort of book he usually favored; he loved books in general, but poetry held a special place in his heart.
"Poetry again?"
"Yes."
His fingers lifted the edge of the page slightly..
"I always find myself immersed in the meaning of the verses..."
A faint smile played on your lips as you rested your cheek in your hand.
"Sometimes, it feels as though they truly understand what I’m feeling."
He spoke in a soft, calm voice—much like the nature of his smile.
"It looks like you’ve fallen in love with this book."
You teased him a little, and his smile widened, accompanied by a soft hum of agreement.
"Perhaps..."
"Heh, well... I suppose I have to agree, at least a little. I like some of the lines, too—this one, for instance."
You pointed to one of the verses, yet his eyes remained fixed on you.
"The description is captivating—even if I don't have that invisible bond the blond guy has, heh."
You kept talking, unaware of the fingers drawing near your ear until they gently and lightly tucked a lock of your hair behind it.
"...Huh?"
You looked up at him, finding his gaze fixed directly on yours.
The same look—calm, yet holding more than what met the eye. And the same quiet smile upon his glistening lips.
"..."
"......"
"Oh... haha... ahem..."
You looked away, feeling heat rise in your cheeks.
"A-anyway! That book I was talking about—"
Your sentence faltered slightly as he leaned closer—much closer.
"...Ah..."
He tilted his head slightly, his gaze still locked on yours.
"I mean... that book was lovely; I stumbled upon it by chance, and... I think you'll like it..."
You lowered your gaze back to the open book, trying to tear your attention away from his eyes—eyes that stared at you unblinkingly, devoid of any trace of bashfulness.
"It was talking about—"
"You look lovelier when you blush."
...
"W-what...?"
He leans closer to you.
"I said you look lovelier when you blush."
...
"That was direct enough..."
"I-I mean... thanks, I guess. You look handsome too, haha... um..."
...
...
He keeps staring at you; he is still close, still smiling.
"B-by the way, how is Anna?"
"She's fine."
"Oh, I'm glad to hear that... haha."
...
"W-what is it...?"
"What is what?"
"You're staring..."
He doesn't answer. Instead, he raises his hand, giving you a moment to pull away—but you don't. Who would?
Then, he lightly brushes the back of his fingers against your burning cheek...
"J... Johan...?"
His fingers linger on your cheek for a few seconds before he pulls away.
"Which book?"
"What?"
"You said you found a book I might like."
His smile widens.
That bastard... he knows exactly what he’s doing.
If you could utter every curse word running through your mind, you would. But you can't—especially not after what he just did—because this is Johan.
Monster is a great anime. Everyone should watch it
