Headcanon: Baby!Fili and Kili once called Thorin 'dad', and ofc Thorin went all "Boys you can't forget about your father/it'd would be disrespect to him" and all that. And then years later our babies would have near death experience like orc attack or avalanche, when Thorin's not there, so when he comes back he thinks boys're dead. But ofc everything ends well and when Durins're finally reunited boys are all 'Daaaaad ;A;' and this time Thorin doesn't correct them.
