My favorite part of the Percy & Ripley dynamic is the way Anna will be like "oh come on Percy why don't you want to be my lab partner" and then Percy is like "because you personally killed my father and tortured me and my baby sister until our hair turned white and shot my baby sister down with arrows sentencing her to gothic nightmare hell??? you crazy bitch???" and then Anna is just like "oh my god are you STILL not over that come on man. it's really petty of you to be hung up on that. that wasn't personal it was just like, for work."

Sometimes Ripley says something so horrific in such a mundane, realistic way that it's genuinely uncomfortable. She complains about Whitestone being colourless and culture-less, like she wasn't directly involved in the massacre and subjugation that's forced the populace into a state of depravation and fear. There's something so entitled, so self-absorbed, about her bemoaning how miserable Whitestone is while the people of the city are violently rebelling against their oppressors. She talks about not wanting to get caught up in battles when she's on first name terms with the Briarwoods, is at the very least complicit in murdering children, and is in a cell facing the one where she tortured a teenage boy. It's disgusting to hear her, and none of it feels at all unbelievable.
