Does This Look Stupid?
In fairness, it probably does. Especially with zero context. Even with providing said context, the picture is dated. So...it truly is just a silly picture. A picture no one gets though is similar to a thought that has haunted my mind for a while. Acceptance and how much it really matters. Or at least that was the thought before. Not so much now.
Chances are we all have a few interests, kinks, life journeys, or whatever else may apply, that others simply do not care for. You celebrate these victories, big or small, entirely alone. It's not ideal but does it matter? Does the subject in question bring you personal value? That alone is enough to justify doing it, despite what the mind may tell you. Is it bringing you life progress? Even better! Is it both? You get the idea here. It is impossible to expect everyone to appreciate the various things any of us do. Everyone has different interests. Embracing self empowerment allows you to celebrate your own victories. What if perhaps you can have it both ways? Because you can.
There are many of us out there and embracing healthy connections to bond over the things that you have in common is a great feeling. If that's being held back from you, it's probably time to run from the source that is doing that. Choose free will. You don't have to do what you're told. Walk your path happily. Now, let's make this personal.
2017 was a tough year. Not in the same way the better part of the last two years have been, but there was a flood at the condo I reside in. Much stress and bad times were had. As much as this sucks, I was also making the most money I have in my life at this point. Because of this, I was able to both be responsible and toss money around in the crypto space. I won't get into details because I found out time and time again over the years, that while the interest definitely exists, it's a niche. It's like a soutslike type game. Hard to get into but worth the rewards. Now you can likely relate to many more about this than crypto itself, but it isn't common. That's the main takeaway here. Does it make me "cool"? Not really if so few are doing it in the grand scheme of things...but that's in part what makes the crypto space more attractive.
Fast forward to now, where I am not as financially fit, but have more personal insurance than ever for doing something I've been told is dumb, a fad, you name it. That's okay. Laughable even. With the right group maybe it becomes more than just a talking point. Maybe it is just one person but because they are your go-to person, you develop a close bond. Ultimately, when it comes to these things, you want the people willing to lift you up. Not the ones acting like everyone else on the internet just hating for no reason because it is the cool and edgy thing to do. Maybe that's attractive in your teens and still somewhat naive 20s. Not so much in your 30s.
I could care less about traditional sports. However, if a friend turned around tomorrow and told me they made a successful business based on selling sports gear, or building a community, heck whatever it is, I'd be happy for them! It is what they like to do and maybe get to leave their ratrace job as a result. You know what is not cool? People who seem to either have a PhD in being a keyboard warrior or run a business fueled by putdowns. Take your own power back from the ones you invest in that just hate in return. They will understand someday...or they won't. Most importantly, you're not wondering or later possibly regretting, what would have happened if I did what might have made me happy? From foods, to sleep patterns, to life skills, just try it. If you drop it later you can at least say you tried.
You know what's amazing about trying? Unlike most who just hate because it's cool, if you really can't help yourself, you at least sound informed when doing so. Even debates/disagreements can be healthy. What's healthy for you? That's what matters! This silly picture at the start of this post was a start to a long lasting journey. A journey that is comparable to the red pill in The Matrix. Take that in as many scenarios as you can. You may end up loving the results more than you initially thought going into it.
