This cigarette card remembers the steamship 'Aparima' On her maiden voyage during the South African War, she carried horses from Hungary to South Africa for the Imperial Government. Later, the ship was principally in the New Zealand-Calcutta service, and was used as a training ship for officers and a troopship on six transports during World War I.  But she was sunk in 1917 after being torpedoed in the English Channel by a German submarine, with the loss of 54 lives.
