Render of Fox McCloud vs. Aparoids on Sauria for Star Fox Assault
Aparoid King
James McCloud was once a defender of the Lylat System, until his disappearance at the hands of Andross… and if he was indeed secretly taken from the cells and brought far from the system. He awoke in a long-destroyed and abandoned laboratory. After managing to reactivate the computers, he discovered that he was one of many prisoners in an experiment that would combine Aparoid DNA with his own—an experiment that went awry, causing the destruction and death of everyone in the base except him. He eventually left the base and began to travel the planet alone, always keeping his distance from the inhabitants, as they sensed that something was wrong with him. Sometimes he even had dreams in which he helped his son. For years he was alone, until one day he was captured by slavers who planned to sell him… when something unexpected happened… the power within him activated and adapted, destroying his captors. The Aparoid Queen had fallen that day, and the Aparoid King had ascended.
One thing I love in Star Fox Assault, is how Fox sees this:
And says:
The quiet horror of it. The fact that cornerian soldiers have been overtaken by aparoids. There is a non-zero chance that Fox or someone on the crew knows the person beneath that helmet. Now lost forever as part of the aparoid hivemind.
It's subtle foreshadowing for what happens to General Pepper. And I say subtle because I had to go through 3 freaking videos just to get that screencap of him saying the line.
Honestly, I wish Assault had shown more of the horror of the aparoid infection. Showed us soldiers in multiple stages of being overtaken. Maybe some could be saved... many cannot. Fox and crew have to take them out in order to stop the aparoids.
Even if it means shooting down someone who maybe once had been a friend.
No...
Obedece.
¿Acaso era esta una segunda vida?
For Reasons(tm), I’m gonna be a little scarce this week so I’m throwing this into the queue so you guys are reminded of that and have a weekly dosage of SF thoughts/headcanons/shenanigans from me:
Space station hubs like Sargasso seem like a very interesting idea that I hope Nintendo explores in future titles. I’d like to think that these hubs dot the Lylat System and offer services like fueling up, supplies, food, etc. I imagine there’s Corneria-affiliated ones and independent ones the further away from Corneria you get. It would be interesting to see a Star Fox game featuring the team building up one of these places.
There is no way in hell Wolf didn’t make everyone start calling him “Lord O’Donnell” because he wanted to feel fancy.
Thinking about how the aparoids invaded Sauria, I can’t help but wonder if the dinosaurs thought that this was like some weird scarab-driven apocalypse out of retaliation for being used as currency for thousands of years.
You are now aware of the fact that since Sauria is the Dinosaur Planet, its oceans are probably filled with all of the eldritch prehistoric entities that we are familiar with on Earth. :)
Wait what if Sauria was Earth all along.
The pirate theme of General Scales’s character/ship implies his boat was probably actually intended for sailing but Andross helped him by bestowing technological knowledge to him... including the technology to make the ship fly.
You know what would be absolutely terrifying? If Aquas had islands that were basically just the tips of mountains that survived the mass planet-wide flooding. And some survivors clung to those islands. And built giant Bacoon-based temples. Yeah that’d be scary. Glad I did not put that idea in anyone’s heads.
The fact that Rareware was bought by Microsoft and a lot of Dinosaur Planet was scrapped means we can’t have a legendary magic-off between Wizpig, Randorn, and Mumbo Jumbo, and I’m forever sad about this.
When I was a child, I thought the SF64 Zoness water looked like koolaid and I wanted to drink it.
I always am like “Wow, we really need to move away from Andross as a bad guy” when it comes to developing the SF series but I absolutely adore the idea that the Aparoid Queen was one of Andross’s creations gone wrong back in his time as a Cornerian scientist. I mean, creating an AI that could take the place of real-life soldiers on the battlefield would be insanely convenient, I would think? Especially with such an adaptable AI? ... It’d be kinda interesting too if that AI had run amuck and had destroyed part of Corneria City and Andross had gotten blamed for it since he made it... -coughs- Moving on.
Sometimes I think about how good SwapStone Hollow’s music is and I cry.
I honestly would kill for another Star Fox game with David Wise as the lead composer.
A sketch from awhile ago. Unfortunately it’s of a dead meme.
