the Juno’s have kicked off in Edmonton, this year’s host city! The Junos are national music awards for Canadian artists (similar to the Brit Awards in the UK or the Grammy’s in the States). They started over 50 years ago in 1970 in Toronto, and were last hosted in Alberta by Calgary in 2016. This year, notoriously infamous Alberta band Nickelback is the inductee for the Canadian Music Hall of Fame :)

What was the most memorable year ever?

it was the best of times... it was the worst of times...

The Calgary Winter Olympics rocketed the city out of the usual self-esteem issues characteristic of Canadian cities and arguably saved the Winter Olympics from extinction, so there's a reason it kind of goes to people's heads (and made them re-apply for the honour a few years ago). (Pictured is silver medalist Elizabeth Manley).

Meanwhile, just after setting a record for creating the biggest ice cream sundae and filling the freezers of many Edmontonians, the Trade happened and we lost our dearest Wayne. We've still not recovered from this (and now he's leaving us Again this year). To give you an idea, we would rather cheer for him than our own team when he was playing on Edmonton ice.
