Happy Asian and Pacific Islander Month!
We will spend this month spreading more information and sharing content from a plethora of blogs by Pasifika and Indigenous Asian peoples. (This blog will NOT share stories or info on Asian Colonizers, ONLY Colonized people have a voice on this page.)
Note: We will not be sharing stories or blogs from the dominant ethnic groups of China, Japan, India or Indonesia. Also not the dominant ethnic groups of any official state sans some possible exceptions.
Some voices do have priority.
Such as,
In the Pacific:
Melanesians in terms of Pasifika content. Pacific Islanders are NOT equal and Melanesians being Black and Melanated are thus the after thought of the Pacific (Despite having a vast more number of people and cultures than Micronesia and Polynesia). Melanesians also face discrimination due to their Blackness from other Pasifika people and in places such as Australia and New Zealand. Melanesians are also often mistaken for Afrikan people abroad due to having extremely similar phenotypic cues.
Micronesians in terms of Pasifika content right after Melanesians. Micronesians are also left to the sidelines in favor of focus on Polynesian peoples. Micronesians are the smallest in terms of land and population and thus don't get much attention outside of proximity to Polynesia.
That being said: This blog will still include Polynesian stories, histories and culture due to ALL Pasifika peoples being Indigenous peoples. We just hope to prop up the voices left by the wayside.
In Asia:
Black Asians
This includes: African Diasporic Asians such as the Siddi in India, Papuans and Melanesians in Diaspora in Indonesia, Black Austronesian peoples such as the Andamanese, Semang, Batek, Maniq and Aeta and Ati among others.
Colonized peoples in China (Tibetan and Uyghur peoples among others)
Ainu people of Aynu Mosir (アィヌ・モシリ)
Indigenous Siberians
Ryukyuan peoples
Dayak peoples of Borneo
Colonized peoples in India, especially those of lower castes.
Indigenous Taiwanese peoples (Formosan peoples)
Colonized peoples in Southeast Asia (Countries: Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei)
Colonized peoples in Central Asia (Countries: Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Iran)
Colonized peoples in Indonesia
Colonized peoples in the Philippines
Jewish peoples in Diaspora throughout Asia (Bene Israel in India, Jewish peoples in Central Asia, China, etc.)
Again, we are open to Mods from these places or of these cultures as well as input to keep information shared as accurate as possible. Feel free to DM for any questions! Also, we are thinking of ways to be multilingual as a Blog in order to provide better space and more opportunity for those that don't speak English, a colonizer language.
Much thanks to all Indigenous peoples that make this world a beautiful place.
