I've been reading the fan fiction you recommended by just call me endy & OMG IT GIVES ME LIFE.I wanted to ask you what you thought of the story when you read it. currently on chapter 5 Apocryphal gallery is love..Apocryphal gallery is life
GAHHH! Do not get me started on this story! This story is EVERYTHING. There is not a single thing that I do not enjoy about Apocryphal Gallery, I'm not even kidding.
I absolutely loved how the characters were portrayed, and the direction the plot took. It kind of struck me, the first time I read it, how incredibly believable the whole story was. I just kept thinking that, YES, that's exactly how things would develop if the characters were thrown in that exact situation, and it's amazing.
The relationship between the characters (and I'm not just talking about Hiccup and Jack) felt so natural, and I love that they have an actual existence outside of the main couple. Like, it's completely obvious that they weren't just included because they'd come in handy to make romance happen at one point or another.
Take Astrid, for example. I absolutely love Astrid in the HTTYD series and as far as canon ships go, I'm a total hiccstrid shipper, so it sort of saddens me whenever she's portrayed as a bitchy side character with no other purpose other than to be an obstacle in Hiccup and Jack's relationship.
But, in AG, she's such a lovable and well-written character, with interests of her own, and her friendship with Jack's sister is down-right adorable. Snotlout and the twins, too. They have some depth outside their roles as bullies, which just adds even more to the story.
You've probably guessed it, but I'm a sucker for multi-dimensional characters (especially "villains" and side-characters), so this story won me over pretty easily.
There's more, of course. The entire plot was really well thought out, and none of the events that happened in the story felt like they were just thrown in randomly as filler chapters until Jack and Hiccup finally hooked up. I tend to get a bit weary of multi-chaptered fanfictions because they're either too short (and the development of the relationship feels a bit rushed) or too long (and it's just one far-fetched event after the other to drag out the story for as long as possible until finally something happens).
But AG managed to balance everything so that you're hooked from the start and never get bored, ever. Add to that the amazing writing skills of the author which sort of makes me want to cry because I'll never be half as good and it's impossible for me not to love it.
I was more engrossed in this story—in a fanfiction—than I was in some of the published novels I've read. I don't know, it just made me feel things.
In short: A++ story. I've probably read it at least five or six times, and I'm not planning to stop anytime soon.
I hope this was helpful (or at least made people want to read the story??), and enjoy the rest of your reading! :)
