Hiking Pup Pal #mickjaggerpup #blueridgeparkway #summerinthesouth #appleorchardmountain
During our hike on June 8th, 2015 we were burdened by a rain storm that forced us to seek shelter. In a bit of a panic due to a little PTSD from three nonstop days of rain, we tied some 550 cord between two trees, threw a tarp over it, and four of us huddled underneath it! Looking back on it we have to laugh, because we should've just kept hiking! That little 'duck and cover' really cost us precious hiking time. This was the day that we saw the infamous "Guillotine." But due to loss of daylight and our haste to find camp, we barely even saw it let alone got a decent picture of it. By the time we made it to the top of Apple Orchard Mountain it was nearly dark, and a storm was quickly approaching complete with some seriously intense winds and a cloud that tried to eat us. While trying not to blow away, we set up our tent as fast as we could, and just barely made it inside before the dark storm was right on top of us. It still surprises us that nothing flew away on this mountain, because you can tell by our faces from the next morning that we were freezing and completely over the wind! Apple Orchard Mountain in Virginia on the Appalachian Trail is home to a very large tower (probably FAA or something) shown behind us, and will definitely be a place that we have a good laugh next year. Have you had a crazy experience on Apple Orchard Mountain? We would love to hear about them!
