Headcanon that Aquafend is an amphibious vehicle. I absolutely REFUSE to have him not be aquatic.

Design for Aquafend

He used to be a prolific gold medal winning athlete, but after a string of losses, he joined the aquaspeeders to find a new meaning in life, really taking to the teachings of tlalakan more than his teammates. but now, on earth with competitive bots around, he feels that spirituality that resonated so easily with him comes into conflict with his natural competitive spirit

Aquafend is the aquaspeeder's full time infiltrator and part time heartbreaker, he likes to play with people's emotions and dive behind enemy lines, thats not to say he doesn't value his relationships, he's just been blinded by an unearned sense of fame from being the gifted kid. Long ago, he used to be a racer from velocitron but felt the waters calling to him more than the roads and made a switch. At first, he was successful, but eventually, he hit the glass celling that velocitron only had eyes for racing cars, frustrated by the unfairness of the situation his performance began to suffer and looking for a way out of the whole planet he was looking on the extranet for any autobot team that would take him, where he met the aquaspeeders.

Because their relationship with each other isn't deeply personal, the aquaspeeders keep it professional. But aquafend likes to push it sometimes. He's something of a flirt, and speedstream has never outright turned him down (unlike many other bots in his life). but she is his boss and has been pushing him aside in favor of work. That work is saving the world, mind you, but the effect is the same on him. He feels more than a little neglected sometimes, but he knows he's playing a dangerous game as after his first commitment, changing carrers ended in failure. he's become afraid of commitment as a whole.

At first, he doubted dispensor's ability to turn the tide but hung out with them anyway as an excuse to tell a new person about the aquaspeeders' escapades so he could paint himself as some big hero, but as the Apocalypse on earth continues that image of himself begins to crack but tired of running away, he commits to it, seeing dispensor as the only one that can safe the world and pushes them towards reaching their full potential, after the pepsi incident is over, aquafend's new committed charisma is able to bridge the gap between the aquaspeeders and the stormtroopers allowing them to become permanent allies, as they've discovered a very important reason to say on earth.

So the mech behind Swerve and Drift is Aquafend. He has a brother, Jetstorm, who is a Decepticon.

You know...

...the same Jetstorm in the middle back, who helped turn Deadlock into Turmoil for mutiny. Granted they may be estranged brothers, but that still can be mighty awkward.

I wouldn't be surprised if JRo put that in on purpose.

Before I answer about Aquafend, JRO once said something interesting: conjunxes are rare. We follow a few in canon, but overall, in the society he envisioned, they're rare. I think that's really interesting.

I've often thought most characters fall under that, unless their pairing up is intrinsic to the fic you wanna write (aka OTP loophole! lol) So, to my mind, I don't so.

Fandom can do whatever it wants with him, though :D I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him paired up. He won't be in this fic, though.
