'Slingshot spiders' accelerate 100X faster than cheetahs

A new kinematic study explains how the amazing “slingshot spider” stores enough energy to produce acceleration of 1,300 meters/second2 (4265 feet/second2), or 100 times the acceleration of a cheetah.

Running into an unseen spider web in the woods is scary enough, but what if you had to worry about a spider web—and the spider—catapulting at you?

That’s what happens to insects in the Amazon rain forests of Peru, where the tiny slingshot spider launches a web—and itself—to catch unsuspecting flies and mosquitoes.

The spider’s amazing acceleration produces velocities of 4 meters per second (13.1 feet per second) and subjects the spider to forces of approximately 130 Gs, more than 10 times what fighter pilots can withstand without blacking out.

A VERY important Tarantula Tuesday!

A WIP, I really wanted to add a spoopy background. I’ve been toying with all kinds of ideas for Madd, but I finally found a concept I’m very happy with! Looks rather venomous doesn’t he?  So this probably won’t make any sense to anyone, but fuck it. I’ll talk about it anyway.  Jaxx is the suit of spades, (the Ace to be more precise) though many mistakenly assume he’s the joker. Every suit has an alternate form that symbolizes something, Jaxx has Madd, and I’m sure it’s pretty evident what he symbolizes just from the name alone.  Madd is the physical form of Madness. He thrives off of pandemonium--and I mean that in the most literal sense possible. Chaos is his literal food source. His abilities vary from hallucinatory magics, acidic saliva and trapping to incredible physical strength and insane evasive maneuvers. You thought jumping spiders were bad, try a giant 7 foot venomous demon spider that has no visible weakness and is incredibly intelligent and cunning as fuck.

In my original series, he actually gives the main characters such a hard time, not even his Lord can contain him, (though I suppose it doesn’t help that Reggan arachnophobic, so he probably isn’t much help anyway.) Man does he FUCK SHIT UP. It’s awesome.

His personality is hard to pinpoint for me because he’s incredibly unstable and reactions and responses vary. He’s one mercurial son of a bitch. If anyone has any questions about him, feel free to drop me an ask!

I found a jumping spider on my wall this morning, cutest little spider I’ve ever seen so I had to get a picture of it. I took my phone but it wouldn’t stop moving so I said out loud. “Please hold still, I can’t get a good picture.”

I think the spider actually heard me because the next thing that happened was it turned around and posed for me so I could get this picture on this post, thank you my furry little eight-legged friend ^^
