The same for Daniel Handler and J.K Rowling.
Archenemies Spoilers ahead!
.
One of my favorite parts of the Renegades trilogy is that Nova and Adrian have absolutely no clue that they are enemies. I've seen alot of reviews of people getting mad at them for not seeing the obvious, but I think them not having any clue who each other really are, is what makes it so great. After all, would you ever think that someone you love so dearly was your archenemny? Of course not. Even the thought of it is uncomprehenable.
The same goes for Nova and Adrian. These two clearly care so deeply for each other, that the thought of them being each others arch enemy has barely even crossed their minds. The only time I can recall Adrian thinking about it is during the gala where Nova says neophyte. Even then, Adrian brushes his thoughts away not allowing his brain to dig into it. Or, When Nova is searching for the vitality charm in Adrian's room and sees the Sentinel tattoo sketches, she barely bats an eye at it.
I've seen "but are they each others worst nightmare," and, "but they are each others worst nightmare," in just about every promo for Archenmies. I mean, this clearly proves my point even more.
Nova and Adrian haven't figured it out yet because it's so incomprehensible that their minds have blocked out almost every thought of it. Well, not "blocked out,"but thought of an excuse.
Marissa clearly wants us to see that them being in love whilst being enemies is just a heartbreaking and unfathomable situation for them. Or even... their "worst nightmare."
They're just so enamored with each other that you could literally put a sign that says, "Nova is Nightmare," in front of Adrian's face and he wouldnt even see it. Hed probably just politely walk away and go back to thinking about Nova. Which is both adorable, and heartbreaking.
They don't want to think into each others mysterious disappearances and similar personalities and such. Who would?
I feel like someone else will have to tell them because neither of their subconscious want to figure it out, even if "they" want to. (That make sense?)
I don't want to see either of then get hurt, but as stated in the synopsis: "together they can save the world." In order to change the world for the better, they need to do it together and overcome their differences, no matter how scary they may be.

Anyways, thanks for listening to my rant. If you have anything else to add, let me know! Also, if you have any other theories you want to discuss my dms and ask box are always open!
Okay so Archenemies comes out tommorow and I’m going to CRY.
