Day 4 | Extremophile
(individuals under cut)
A bit late but here nonetheless!! For today I designed some of Drakocine’s more extreme species of dragon, these being a nocturnal Sandarb and a far north Tundral.
Sandarbs are desert dragons, and are divided into two subspecies: nocturnal Sandarbs, who live most of their lives underground, have slightly larger ears than other dragon species, and have small, sometimes non-flight capable wings, and diurnal Sandarbs, who live aboveground, have massive, heat-diffusing ears, and more standard wings.
Conversely, Tundrals are arctic dragons. The above character would likely come from near one of the planet’s poles, but Tundrals don’t have subspecies in the way Sandarbs do, so “far north” is a qualitative descriptor rather than a biological one.
The silhouettes between them are the average sizes for Drakocine’s other dragon species and Sandarb subspecies. Left to right, these are a diurnal Sandarb, a Cerulean (ocean, the longest species on average but nor particularly tall), a Pyrite (high elevation/mountainous, genetically closest to Tundrals), and a Tundral from a more central region of the arctic.
If you read all the way down here, I’m taking name suggestions for the two designs above! The Sandarb is based on a Gila monster, and the Tundral’s feathers are based on a reindeer.
