Kin and Jack broke my heart and I fell a bit in love with both of them. Arctic Fire deals with the emotional repression and guilt after the death of a brother for one and a lover for the other. Their grief is different but it connects them. I loved their characters, their banter, that it wasn't just the isolation that drew them together, it was shared interests. There isn't much of a supporting cast, there are some but is mostly these two men dealing with their trauma, their attraction. It's really effective. The backstory is revealed over time and is largely kept a secret from the reader until it isn't then it's there and it's devastating. I would love to see Arctic Fire get a sequel like Cold War did. There are issues that Kin and Jack need to sort out. And this is a world I'd bet even most Canadians know little about. So there is something of an educational opportunity there, because who says our romance fiction can't be somewhat educational and spark an interest in something. As well as being a super good time.

Arctic Fire is a novella. It's short, it's a fast read I read it in less than a morning. But it was an enjoyable morning even if I was emotionally fucked up for at least some of the time. I loved the plot, loved the characters, loved the way the isolation was achieved and dealt with.

We’ve had rain off and on for the last couple of days which is bringing the leaves down. Dark, dreary days but no frost yet. Many leaves are brown and crisp but there are spots of color among the fallen. I think the show will be brief, but I am enjoying every saturated hue.

Faugheen the champion machine. I don’t think more words are necessary. Faugheen landed the Punchestown Champion Hurdle at Punchestown yesterday, 1 May 2015, under Ruby Walsh.  He is still undefeated, 11 for 11 now.

Eight lengths behind finished stable companion Arctic Fire and Paul Townend (purple silks), Dell’ Arca and Tom Scudamore (right) third another eight lengths back, with Tiger Roll and Bryan Cooper way behind in fourth. Results.
