More Than Friends? - "My Baby's All Grown Up!"
Damian and Jon are just friends, right? They've been friends forever, best friends. But what happens when their families start to catch on to some new feelings or things?
Part 1 Part 2
Damian Wayne had a best friend. His family knew this of course, Jon had been one of the people to help Damian settle into a more…social person, even if that wasn’t saying much. Jon and Damian met when they were 9 and 10, instantly not getting along. After a few patrols (forced by their fathers) they began working better together. Damian sharpened Jon’s skills, and Jon brightened the humanity in Damian.
The first time Damian slept outside of the Manor, Bruce was a mess, the only thing relieving him of stress was knowing that his youngest son would be with the Kents. His first sleepover, with his best friend. It was weird saying it at first, especially out loud. They all assumed that Damian would attack for the insinuation that he had any kind of human connection, but he brushed the comment off, “Yes, what about it? I find it smart that I chose a friend who is indestructible.”
Bruce stayed up the whole night, something he was used to anyway, but this time he was sitting at the batcomputer, staring at his phone as if he expected it to start ringing any second. “The boys pushed each other off the roof. They snuck out to patrol. Damian’s threatened to kill everyone.” This was the short list so far that Bruce had pictured. But the next morning, after being picked up by Alfred, Damian walked into the Manor and tossed his backpack on the couch along with something else.
“You…made cookies?” Bruce asked again, as if it were the most unrealistic possibility. Damian rolled his eyes for what seemed like the fifth time and nodded, “Jon’s grandmother taught him, so we made cookies during some spare time. Not a big deal father.” Bruce went on with his day, keeping the cookies a secret from the rest of his sons, having thought they were the best he’d ever had, not that he’d tell Alfred.
The sleepovers became more and more regular, some at the Kents, some at the Manor. The boys fell into a quick rhythm whenever the other was over. They seemed comfortable, like it was the most natural thing in the world. At some point, they wouldn’t even set it up anymore, one of the boys would just appear at the other’s house, and a quick phone call let their parents know that they’d spend the night. Hell, even sometimes the weekend.
Now, the boys are 16 and 17. Their current house of choice was Wayne Manor, and they decided to spend their time in the den, something Damian’s brothers created when they were growing up. By far the most laid back and relaxing place in the house. They were seated on the couch watching a movie when Jason Todd and Roy Harper walked in, planning to steal the TV from the two but paused, noticing something…new.
Jon was wearing Damian’s favorite hoodie. Now, them sharing clothes had become a thing a few years back, starting when Damian had stolen one of Jon’s flannels when he was over, and the sun was too hot for any of the long sleeves or cotton shirts he brought. It helped that the half-kryptonian had been slightly bigger than the ex-assassin. From there it turned into jackets, shirts, hell even sweatpants or shorts. But this? This was Damian’s favorite hoodie. His Gotham University dark blue hoodie that he had bought when visiting Dick at school, It was the first thing Damian had ever gotten for himself and he was very proud of it.
If it ever went missing, he’d raid his brother’s closets, nearly throwing Tim out the window when he found it–a slight mix up on laundry day. But here Jon was, lounging in it, messing with the draw-strings. Another thing, Damian was basically half on Jon, resting against him, Jon’s height advantage making it so that his chin was resting on the top of Damian’s head. Damian was more relaxed than Jason had ever seen him, and he basically had known Damian his whole life, being in the league.
Damian was so relaxed he hadn’t even noticed the two walk in behind them. Roy quickly pulled Jason out of the room, and out of hearing range–as much as you could with a kryptonian in the house, and shook his best friend’s shoulders. “Dude, is your brother…cuddling?” He said, almost horrified. Jason shook his head, “I–fuck, no. Nah, they’re just watching a movie. Look their friends okay, they’re probably—HOLY FUCK!”
Damian pulled his lips away from Jon’s where they had just connected and jumped up, “Todd!” He ran towards the door, shutting it quickly. “My, my little brother…is dating Jon fucking Kent.”
Inside the room, Damian was pacing, hands running through his hair, “Shit, shit, shit, shit. I shouldn’t have done that. You! This is your fault.” He said, turning to his–now not so secret–boyfriend. They had managed to keep it just to themselves for two years, and now his brother knew because of a slip up and a kiss. His most blabbering brother, the whole house would surely know by dinner. Jon gasped, “How is this my fault? You kissed me!”
Damian huffed, “You were too comfortable, and your stupid soft lips were right there.” Jon smiled and walked over kissing Damian’s cheek and hugging him, “I’m sorry your brother found out that way. I know you wanted to tell them your own time.” Damian rested his head on Jon’s shoulder and wrapped his arms around his waist.
“Damn it, I should have closed the door.” He mumbled. Jon kissed his boyfriend’s forehead and brushed his hair back, successfully calming him. “It’s alright Dami, you should probably go talk to him though.”
Damian nodded and walked out into the hallway after taking a deep breath and saw Roy waving his hand in front of a frozen Jason. Once the older brother saw Damian come out of the room, he shook his head trying to pull himself out of the daze. Damian misinterpreted the head shake, and grew nervous that his brother would not approve of…his dating situation.
Jason saw the fear grow in his brother’s eyes and quickly pulled him into a hug, Roy and Jon leaving them to talk. “Kid, look at me.” He whispered, but Damian kept his head down. “Akhi.” Jason said.
Damian looked up, preparing to hear that he shouldn’t be dating who he was dating and saw Jason taking shaky breaths. His eyes widened when his brother broke into tears, but then found slight relief in the reason. “When did you start dating? You’re too young, you’re not ready to leave the nest, little bird. M-my, b-baby’s all grown! When did this happen?” He said.
Damian now rolled his eyes, knowing that Jason was not judging him, but his heart did soften knowing his brother cared this much. “Tt, I’m old enough to have a boyfriend Todd.” Jason shook his head and leaned against the wall, “You’re only 5!” He sobbed, “I’m 16 you idiot.” Damian responded.
Jason stopped crying and looked up at him quickly, “Shut up. You’re my fucking little brother you demon brat.” Jon and Roy entered the room hearing the crying and eyes widened at the sight. Once they heard the reason, Roy winced and walked over comforting his friend, who was now groaning, “H-he was just a little thing, used to be cute before he became a bitch–ow! He was so small, and now he’s got a boyfriend.” Roy nodded and pat his back shushing him, “Yep, let it out.”
After the shock and tears had passed the four were not sitting in the den, Jason assuring that he wouldn’t say anything to anyone, stating that it was for them to share when they were ready. Now, he was–to Damian’s horror–finding amusement in the situation. “You know how he got the scar on his jaw?” He asked Jon.
Jon nodded, “Yeah, he said an assassin’s blade during his time in the league.” Damian gave Jason a look that could only be described as, ‘shut the fuck up or I’ll burn your Jane Austin books.’ Jason smirked and ignored it, “Oh really? Well, your boyfriend failed to mention that it was my sword. He was running through the halls when he was jeez, 4? Slipped even though I warned him the floors had just been cleaned, and cut himself on the sword he took from my room.”
Jon let out a laugh, much to Damian’s horror, his cheeks now flushed red. Jon wrapped his arms around his boyfriend, “Aw, don’t be embarrassed baby, I won’t say anything.” He whispered with a smile.
Jason took in the sight and noticed something…his brother was happy. Truly happy, not a forced smile, or an occasional laugh at something, he was happy with Jon. Jason could live with his brother dating he supposed, especially if it meant seeing the smile on Damian’s face again.
