I noticed that Stratt only ever calls Grace "Grace" or "Dr. Grace", despite them spending quite a bit of time together (keep in mind I haven't finished the book yet). So I had a random thought: what if calling him by his first name is their version of a parent full naming their child? Like:

Stratt: Ryland, come here!

Grace *internally*: ohh fudgesicles!!

Grace: 😰 Uhh... coming!

Dimitri: oooOooOo, what'd you do this time? 😜👀

Random TADC headcanon: Caine is a demiboy. He didn't have a gender when he was created, but he decided that he identified with male the most so he made his appearance that way (supported by the fact that Caine named himself; gender affirming AND metaphoric). However, they still feel some sense of gender neutralness and don't really care what pronouns you use for them, just prefers he or they. Caine doesn't like “it”, however, because he feels it dehumanizes him and brings him back to when he was a simple dot, and they want to be as close to humans as possible.

Bonus: one of the circus members fumbles and accidentally calls Caine "be" instead of "he", and Caine's like "oohh, I like that! I like that a lot!" and changes his pronouns badge to "he/they/bee". The humans are all like uhhhhh? ...okay then??? Meanwhile Zooble's like *nods* "nice 😎".

Another random LGBTQ+ TADC headcanon: Kinger is straight, but also demisexual and demiromantic. He becomes known as the resident cishet ally of the group. ...that is until he finds out he's also technically queer and has a mild identity crisis about it (Zooble helps him through that).

I feel like him being demi makes Queenie's abstraction more tragic, because when you're almost half a century old and the amount of times you've felt attraction you can count on your fingers, who knows if he'll ever fall in love again. Yes, one can be completely happy without a partner (non-partnering aroace here 😉), but Kinger's always been a hopeless romantic; part of what made it hard to figure out that he was demi. He loves romance, he loves shipping and seeing happy couples, and he loves all sorts of romance media (though he values the relationship itself more, and gets bored during sex scenes). Basically, he places high value on romantic companionship in his personal life.

Kinger likes the term demirose because he thinks it's cute (roses cuz he loves romance, also Queenie loved roses), and demi^2 because computer science. He calls himself an ally passionately, and refused to accept the fact that being demi makes him queer at first (or just being demi in general). This is due to both internalized queerphobia/allonormativity and the fact that he’s been gaslighting himself into thinking that “that sinking feeling something about how you perceive the world is fundamentally different than everyone else” is nothing his whole life.

Hear me out: There's Nothing Holding Me Back by Shawn Mendes is so Checkmate coded. Picture this: pre-cricus Kinger and Queenie (from Kinger's POV). An anxious, uptight, computer nerd meets a carefree, outgoing entomologist. She not only teaches him to love bugs, but drags him out of his comfort zone to explore. She shows him how to live life to the fullest and find beauty in the small things.

Then the bridge is when they enter the circus. The "if we lost our minds and took it way too far" is talking about the fact that they never meant to trap themselves in the digital realm; it was only meant to be temporary. Heck, they didn't even mean to make the circus itself. But they're facing the consequences of creating the AIs. "I know we'd be alright, I know we would be alright" but they'll make it through as long as they're together. "If you were by my side and we stumbled in the dark, I know we'd be alright" in THE DARK, where abstracted Queenie is the calmest- AHHHH it's so perfect 🥺🥹🤭♟️👑
